Headed to Paris and Nice for Christmas
« on: December 06, 2016, 07:56:10 PM »
I realize that it's not in the UK but figured you could give insight or if your over that was, we meet up and grab a drink. Ashford castle was books most of the trip so I changed plans and am doing four days in Paris and then taking the train to Noce for six days. I'm hoping for a great time with the family, and one night me and the wife are headed to Monte Carlo for some fun. Anyone been? Skorp, your opinion is needed. Thanks.

Paris is a shit hole now. Just do one day and go to Eiffel tower, look at it, dont bother going up, then Notre Dame, worth going in and free, then Louvre, mabe shopping on champs Elysee. I would say restaurants are cheap for what you get, but beers and everything else expensive with the taxes. One alternative to Paris is to go to Champagne country which is about an hour away in Reims. Or go to Nice and have an extra two days.

I disagree, it's no more of a shithole than parts of London or New York.

Paris has the best architecture of all 3 cities above. Not short on restaurants and cafe's I love the atmosphere overall and so many hidden gems. There's a spirit of "joie de vivre" where people just hang out in cafes and bars in a civilised way unlike England where there's a rowdy atmosphere.

I only spent one day in Paris on my latest trip. Moulin Rouge was good, not great like I was expecting.

Nice was pleasant enough. The trams are a great way to get around. good markets and shopping if you're into that sort of thing. I had a car a tripped around the south. cannes was very cool.

Monte carlo was a big highlight. The landscape is something you can sit back and look at all day. The casino is a bit overrated. Have a look but no need to go inside. The restaurant next to it is good to kick back and have a beer and watch the money pass by.

Staying at Hotel Rapael in Paris and I'm actually staying at a Club Med near Nice not in Nice proper. It's a 20 minute train to Monte Carlo. We're staying one night in the casino and then back to Nice. I'm excited and hope to have a good time.

Not sure if it is normally like this or not, but I have never seen this many headscarves. More than DC. Beautiful place nonetheless. I don't think Parisians are as rude as I was expecting from what people had said before I came over here. Merry Christmas from Paris.
