New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison will be suspended by the NFL for four games because he admitted to federal investigators that he obtained Human Growth Hormone, sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Harrison had a hearing with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday, the sources said. The Patriots could announce the suspension as early as Saturday.
A league spokesman said the NFL had "no comment" about Harrison, who also could not be reached. Efforts to reach the Patriots were unsuccessful.
The admission by Harrison has never been made public but his name was among those known to federal and New York state investigators that conducted a two-year investigation into an Internet pharmaceutical distribution ring for steroids and other performance enhancers such as HGH.
Investigators have discovered several athletes across many sports whose names were linked in the probe. Sources say at least one NFL assistant also has been questioned.
Chris Mortensen is an NFL analyst for ESPN.

Rodney lost a lot of my respect.
He was taking hgh to heal his body. With the pounding nfl players take I would suspect many guys do it. There is no test so the nfl has some type of list. I dont condone what he did.

I think the only way I'd be surprised, is if a Kicker/Punter was using. Other than that, I'd bet the majority of these guys are "on". It's the sad reality of the sports world, today.

You said the words steroids. Harrison did not take steroids. He admitted to a banned substance (Hgh) There is not a test for Hgh done by the nfl you know. I am not trying to justify anything. Harrison knew the substance was banned. See my first post I condemned him. What he did was wrong. If he needs that much help to heal he should hang em up. Don't be so quick so squawk. More names are going to come out, and you might see a player on your team on that list.

It goes beyond just the healing factor. Players are taking it for multiple reasons. Body fat loss, especially. As you get older you have to work much harder to keep the fat off.

He got caught and he's doing his 4. Merriman got caught and still made it to the Pro Bowl.......The guy will serve out his punishment. As far as drugs in the NFL 350lbs fat guys don't run 5/6 in the 40 without help. It would appear there are far more guys doing something in the NFL then any other sport.

No doubt that performance-enchancing drugs are more prevelent in Pro football than any other major sport(unless you consider bodybuilding a sport, of course).
The game is about speed and explosiveness. The best of the best in athletes, in my mind with NBA a close second. The drugs have to come into play in order for the players keep up the same level while they get older.

While I don't know whether he used em in the past..the NFL has pretty good tests etc..i can see why he used the HGH to overcome his last spat with injuries. I think many of us might do it..to get back on the field. It sucks its wanna my guys..I love Harrison.

Not that I know off. That was a rumor started by pft. I dont know if it was leaked by the pats to confuse the jets as to wether Moss would play or not or what. I do know the pats just cut caldwell. So I think you can pretty much put that rumor to bed. With gaffney being kinda banged up, I dont think they would cut Caldwell if Moss was going to be gone. Moss's agent said that he was looking forward to see Randy on the field in the opener, and had not heard anything about that rumor.
From what I have seen moss has seemed to fit in well with his teamates, and is also a fan favorite. Staying late to talk to the media and sign autogrpahs.
You never erally know with the pats tho. They dont talk about anything.

No not at all. Where did I say that? I was discussing Rodney's own situation. My point was Rodney passed all his drug tests done by the nfl. The nfl must have gotten his name off of some type of list when a lab got shut down. Since they do not test for hgh he obv did not get caught through testing.

I think he got nabbed in from the sting on the pharmacy that Benoit was using, the same one that resulted in all the WWE wrestlers getting banned.
What is really funny, however, is listening to the callers on EEI try to bend over backwards to make excuses for the guy (not body88). Why should anyone beleieve he was ONLY using to heal from injury? Because he plays for the Pats. Anyone else on any other team would be ripped to shreds. People's opinions a 90% influenced by the laundry the guy wears.
They all use this stuff. Guys on the Pats, guys on the Giants (my team, ugh.), guys on the Colts. If everybody's using it, there's no reason to hold it against Rodney for doing the same.

I agree. Wasn't the Fridge the first 300+ guy? He was a fat tub of shit. I'm definitely a big believer in the advancements in training ant nutrition over the past 20 years, but the progress made has been ridiculous.
THG was discovered by accident. It's naive not to think there's readily available other designer drugs that are not detected yet.

Most rational people will agree that performance enhancing drugs are everywhere in the NFL. If most people agree that they are everywhere why the outrage when someone is caught?

Yeah....this pretty much sums it up. If you're not on either ur a genetic freak or missed the class on Juice. I'm just upset that its my guy and he'll hurt the team for 4 games. Then again maybe he'll make it through the season. No telling what he might have done during the AFC Championship game. 1 or 2 plays made the difference.

These guys are the best of the best. There are thousands of college football players and every year a few hundred get the chance to play in the NFL, and the majority of which will never do anything. To think that the majority of the guys are on gear is laughable and a poor attempt to justify a player being caught for HGH.

Have a listen to what Fred Smerlas and Steve DeOssie have to say about performance enhancing drugs and their frequency in the NFL. DeOssie was a lineman and long snapper for more than a decade and Smerlas was a defensive lineman for more than a decade.
Performance enhancing drugs are EVERYWHERE in the NFL. There is a whole industry built around trying to cheat the tests the NFL gives to the players. Those tests aren't in place because just a few players are using. It's the nature of the beast, the NFL's level of physicality practically demands the use of PED's for many many players.

I hope they don't, to be perfectly honest. I don't see the point. He's a slug in the pocket with less than average mobility. Sure, he's got a rocket for an arm but his windup takes almost 1.5 seconds before he releases the ball. He doesn't committ himself to staying in shape year round and he gasses during games easily. His work ethic has been questioned by many, including Del Rio whom fell out of his favor within 2 years.
They wanted to draft him the same year they drafted Boller but chose Boller instead. If he ends up signing, then how ironic!
I just don't see it happening because that would mean they would keep 4 quarterbacks. They are not going to cut Troy Smith out of Ohio State. They really like his upside. Mcnair is probably the starter for one more year if 2007 is a good year for him. Boller is gone as a free agent next offseason.

I didn't have many friends I felt outcasted at times. That was just the way I carried myself, but I felt that missed out on a lot up until about 26.

I dont think anyone is expecting Moss to come in a put up giant numbers. NE's has never had a receiver that has gotten 1000 yards in receptions in a single season (since 2001) Branch never got 1000 yards in receptions on those superbowl teams. No one did. The patriots picked up Moss because like you said he is a legit deep threat / jump ball receiver. That is what they want from him. That and the price was cheap. Moss holds no power in his deal. Stallworth is the burner on the roster. It will be very hard to defend the run when both Stallworth and Moss are on the field. Turns into a pick your poison type of situation. Stop maroney and give up the long ball, or stop the deep threat and give up the run. You add watson and welker to the equation and it gets more complicated. Last year the patriots running game suffered at times because teams could constantly stack the box. That was because the pats had no deep threat. Caldwell was there best receiver. Not exactly a speed demon. The pats 2006 core created pretty much no separation. Not to mention Caldwell is not that fast.
Randy went through a full practice yesterday. I don't think he is hurt. he has had limited time with Brady over the preseason, but at least he had some time. In the time they had they worked together well. However there will be a learning curve. I doubt they use him in anything complicated until he gets comfortable with the offense. Dont forget he will be being defended by a rookie in Revis if he plays.
The lose of Seymour sucks. Green and Wright are very capable back ups. I don't think this will be a huge issue vs the jets due to the extremely thin offensive line the jets are sporting. but as a whole it sucks to lose him. Especially vs the san d's of the world. People are sleeping on Warren and Wilfork tho. They where the two pro bowl caliber players on that line last year. Sey was good last year, but he was also hurt.
Losing Rodney sucks. Thats the one area that the pats have big question marks at. Sanders is a good player, but he ain't no Rodney. Same goes for Meriweather. He is just a rook. The depth at the position is decent, but they can be exposed. The silver lining to that huge cloud in the opener is Chad cant throw the long ball. If the pats can expose that offensive line they should be ok. Not to mention Rodney barley played last year. That said this is a weakness over the first four weeks no doubt.
I am not saying the lose of Seymour and Rodney is not a big deal. If the pats and the jets play well I believe the pats come out on top due to three simple factors. Execution, coaching and talent. If the pats execute they win the game. The jets just dont match up with them. However anything can happen on any sunday and if the jets execute better they can beat the patriots. Don't forget Jones has missed ample time due to injury also.
It should also be said the pats may need a bit of time to get the machine working efficiently. The jets should give them a great game. The pats will be at there best ion the second half of the season. Barring major injury of course. I don't care about wins and loses. I just want them to be efficient team that gets better as the season progresses.Late in the season is when the depth they have is valuable.

I agree. Stallworth and Moss on the edges, Welker in the slot, Thomas or Watson of the line with Maroney in the backfield getting zone blocking like in college. How about Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk to change things up for 3rd down? Tom brady tossing the Rock? When they gel good luck with that offense.

I'm not an Eli fan, never have been. And I don't blame Strahan for not coming back, they're going to be bad. Eli's going to look like shit without Tiki to rely on. I think the defense will be decent, but not when they're playing 3/4 of the game because of all the 3 and outs.
Not to mention my group of friends is either Giants or Cowboy fans. Sunday's going to suck. :'(

That season ending injury about Seymour was started by the same site that claimed Moss was going to be cut last week. I don't think it is as huge an issue as some are trying to make it. Greene and Wright are starting caliber players on any nfl team in the league imo. Look back at the huge playoff games that Seymour missed in the past. They still won due to there depth. The pats put all there marbles on that line. Some people might be shocked when they see what jarvis is capable off. My fear is he gets snatched up by a team after he has a chance to shine. He has stepped in for Seymour and done a fantastic job many times.
People are fogetting the best player on that defensive line last year was Ty Warren. Wilfork had a pro bowl year also. With Jarvis Wright and the addition of Thomas they should be able to hold it down until Sey gets back.
As for Harrison thats one sucks. But on the flipside he barley played last year and the pats managed the fewest passing tds in the NFL. Also set a franchise record for fewest points allowed. Lets hope Sanders, and Meriweather can step up. Sanders is a solid player. He is no Rodney tho.
Dont get me wrong, losing those guys sucks, but dont be shocked if you see Jarvis Greene tearing it up in his place.

I'm not an Eli fan, never have been. And I don't blame Strahan for not coming back, they're going to be bad. Eli's going to look like shit without Tiki to rely on. I think the defense will be decent, but not when they're playing 3/4 of the game because of all the 3 and outs.
Not to mention my group of friends is either Giants or Cowboy fans. Sunday's going to suck. :'(
