JAMAL BROWNER - 500kg/1102lbs Deadlift!
« on: October 01, 2022, 01:38:27 AM »
Many purists hate Sumo. Ive tried it and find it harder (not used to it).
I like conventional, but strong is strong, no matter the technique.

All I can say to many of the haters is, grab 500 kilo's and give it a pull...

I tried sumo after watching Mike Bridges lift.It seemed like you only would have to lift it a few inches. I went from sumo back to the regular style in between lifts in a meet. I could not get that damn thing to budge off the ground and said fuck it right there and changed back.It must have looked funny to anyone watching

The guy is very strong but the bar flexes about 4-5 inches and he uses straps and sumo.

Would like to see him use a stiff bar, no straps and lift conventional.

I was wondering about the bending as well.  Reduces the amount of work needed by a decent-sized chunk.

Very strong dude. I`ve never tried the sumo thing and I think I never will now. But I also had a world record in classic deadlift  ;D

They use that wonky bar for Strongman contests, right?

What does it add? About 100-lb?

Deadlift bars are known for their bend. No one uses stiff bars in deadlift contests.

Gotta love GetBig, demanding more from a 500K deadlifter, LOL   ::)

What makes John Haack's lifts so incredible - aside from his absolutely insane pound-for-pound and absolute strength - is the fact that he does he deadlift in conventional form, and his squats are not a super low-bar squat that he good morning's back up. He has a really thigh-heavy squat, and it's even more impressive because of that, IMO. And to have a super heavy [600-lb] bench press without super short arms...it's just incredibly impressive to see Haack lift, to me.

Of course Jamal Browner is amazing too, but he just fails to meet Getbig's standards on the matter.  ;D

Thats not even full sumo lift but rather semi wide hybrid.
I think he has a suit under there but not one of those medieval harnessess we’ve used to seeing. Maybe it doesn’t help with that more upright sumo stance?

He did fail 467.5kg in competiton some time ago. Thats without traps and after squat and bench.

Insane lift anyway you put it. Look just much how much healthier he looks compared to Haftor and much more than Eddie did!

Browner has interesting numbers. When he's on, he can make big jumps in poundage. When he's off, he usually misses by a decent amount. Also does really well in training when he can strap up.

Nice lift. Good overall totaller also.

sumo shortens the range of motion and lets you recruit a lifting suit or briefs more than conventional

if it's an issue, make a rule against it but otherwise its just the logical conclusion of competitors seeking an edge.  Same with wide-stance squatting or wide-grip pressing.

This - If its an issue then don't allow it.
Just as some are very good at Narrow stance Deadlifts others are at Wide stance - Where is it Written in stone that Only narrow stance deadlifts are Valid & Proper Deadlifts . ::)
There is No you have to lift the bar X number of inches or Range of movement
as long as they're lifting with in the the set rules its Good lifting.

All the superheavy records are set in conventional. If the sumo was much easier they would use sumo, easy records. Of course this differs from person to person but on average the big guys use conventional.

That maybe due to several factors

1, Weight moves weight
2, Having a thicker waist & belly increasing internal pressure
3, Making for better leverage / bio-mechanics
4, Plus other unknown factors

It’s an astounding weight to pull off the floor, regardless of style.

Personally, I’m not a real fan of sumo, but whatever.
