Are you making it with fresh berries?

I find that the frozen berries make for a better shake.  Frostier.  Plus, frozen berries are often higher in antioxidants than fresh!  Good to see you Mr. Moderator.  When did that happen?

I'm sure this is pretty common among GetBiggers but I must comment that the ability to digitally weigh portions has been extremely helpful in the process also.  I would recommend one that go with metric and English measurements.  Pictured below are the frozen berries used in the Palladium Core Power Shake.

I did not know that about the frozen berries. I need to investigate that more!

Like most mods, I was offered the position after a certain moderator emeritus here was exposed for homosexual pedophilic tendencies, which made for a very smooth transition for me.

Good to see you back on the boards, brother!
I hope you stick with it and kick some major ass!!

That's fairly typical for frozen vs fresh anything (depending on the fresh source).  Oxidation happens quickly , so if 'fresh' stuff is sitting out on the store shelves for any length of time, the frozen counterpart is often a better option, but I'll take my fresh picked or farmers market fruits & vegs in season any day over frozen.

A digital scale comes in handy to learn portions, but with berries I personally wouldn't bother.

I like the fresh ones too, especially for snackingm but I get more of a frozen shake effect with the frozen ones.  Quite the dilema!

Fresh ones freeze well too.  I currently have 10 pounds of fresh picked blueberries and 8 pounds fresh picked strawberries in my freezer.

What do you do to them before freezing; how do you prepare them?

Just a quick dunk & swish in the sink (in a strainer) filled with water & about 1/2 cup vinegar, then rinse.  Spread out on paper towel lined cookie sheet & gently roll around to dry (hull strawberries first) - put in freezer on sheet pan (single layer) for an hour or two, then freezer bags.  With blueberries especially, you don't want them to get water-logged before freezing or their skins get "leathery", which is very unpleasant in yogurt or oatmeal.  Other water logged berries just get mushy and produce a lot of 'juice' when defrosting, so minimal time in the bath and complete drying prior to freezing is best.

Thank you, as always, for the excellent advice!
