I was not at the Olympia tonight (and have actually never been to one). But I wonder, who are the Mr. Olympia judges, and how many of them are there?
Quite a number of years ago I was at a local contest here in Southern California, and Shawn Ray was the guest poser. After his posing, he spoke to the audience. One of his remarks was that at the Olympia, when you have the same judges year after year, you get the same results year after year.

I think it is expert schmoe master Lea Thompson who decides the winner beforehand. He is friends with Branch and Phil. Possibly Jay too. The guy even attended Branchs wedding.
It is hard to get info on these secretive matters.. haha the judges in Mr Olympia are more veiled and withheld than celebrities babies before the press pays for them

its the same with MMA, u r in there getting punched in the face and shit and only to have some twinks who never even fought in their lives tell u that u didn't do enough to win ??? that's why im all for having the judges in bodybuilding and MMA all retired pro,s in that field, if u had say, robby,haney,zane,gaspari ect judging im pretty sure the placings will be much more fair,MMA is starting to switch over to that now little by little they r putting ex fighters on the judging panel,i know mike katz is a judge,beside mike which judges actually competed in bodybuilding?

Shawn Ray would say anything to try and win. He was always placing high while not being a big guy. What if they changed the judges and he comes 10th?
Saying that the ridiculous placements and winners at the NOC over the years shows how Steve W controls placings. Johnny Moya 4th when Ruhl was 9th, Orville beating Dexter, common theme here?

Albert Beckles is a judge, and I believe Mike Francois is a judge as well.

The IFBB sets the criteria, the judges follow the criteria, the competitor who wins best fits the criteria.
To become a judge you have to relinquish your opinion.
Do you seriously think every one of the judges preferred Phil's physique.

The judges picked the best competitor to represent the IFBB, not the best physique on stage. Imagine having Kai as the face of professional bb? LOL.
If Kai and Phil were equally professional and equally as good as a spokesman, then Kai probably would have won.
Same in WPD. DLB was a decent face if the sport, Malacarne was as good or better, plus was light years ahead of DLB in physique, so it was a no-brainer.

LOL! I wondered if there were any spicey pics of her out there but was too lazy to look. I am not sure any of these rise to the level of the grapefruit or the white towel, but point taken.

I never judged for the NPC/IFBB but did a few dozen shows as a National Judge for the AAU, several natural orgs. and the Mr. Muscle Beach series. I can say that I NEVER once saw a unanimous card.
Judges differ in their opinion like all of you. I have sat in criteria meetings pre show and yes the votes are closer. My guess is that Manion conducts the Olympia criteria meeting and has a say in who will NOT be the face of the IFBB. That said, all the other placings are objective.

Then the scoring system is fucked, a number of judges can place him down the field and he still gets a perfect score??

7 judges. They had 9 judges and disregard 2 top scores and 2 low scores. So for a perfect score u would need 7 ones

Yes for a perfect score. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2. So scratch out the top and bottom two scores and u are left with a perfect score of 5.

9 judges place each competitor
2 of the judges that scored the competitor in the highest placing gets thrown out..
2 of the judges that scored the competitor in the lowest placing gets thrown out
So 5 we know place him first and the 2 out of the 4 that got thrown out also had have placed him 1st as well

I have seen judges talking to each other and pointing at competitors during the judging, it should never happen.

Awhile back I was watching one of the Miss America/Miss Universe/whatever it was contest, and near the beginning, they introduced all of the judges and where they were from.
