I was living in Carteret, NJ when it happened. I saw the towers everyday on my commute into Newark. The morning it happened, I was home with my wife and two kids. I was feeding my daughter in the kitchen while my wife was watching TV in the other room feeding my son breakfast. She told me that a plane had hit a tower, so I put Howard Stern on the radio and listened to his commentary while I continued feeding my daughter. When one of the towers fell, I jumped in my car, and drove over to an area of my town where I could see the towers. I saw the last tower with smoke pouring out of it. I tried to film it with my video camera, but it wasn't charged. So I tried to drive down to a place where I could get a better view, but the other tower fell while I was driving. It was very surreal. My dad, stepmom, brother and sister lived in Soho, and I couldn't get a hold of them because the phone network was overwhelmed. We just stayed in the house most of the day watching and listening. Finally, we decided to take the kids outside for a walk. The smoke from the towers was drifting right over the top of us. Over the next month, they began taking pieces of the towers over to the Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island. I could see all of the steel beams from my front yard. Just bananas.
