I came across this new training video and was surprised at how bad Rich looks for 54.
We always show pics/vids of king Ron but he looks better then Rich even with all his surgeries. I have no idea what's going on with his pecs! :-X

Breaking news... Rich NEVER looked good. Sure he was ripped at one point, but his muscle separation and overall shape sucked ass. Very narrow, no back thickness and 16" arms of peace.

I watched since I was a big Gaspari fan.
It's funny how these guys don't evolve training wise. Sure he threw some chains on the bar, but that just looked like additional weight, and he was still doing half rep type bodybuilding movements.
Opposite of a guy like Yates who (appears at least) to have switched up routines and is incorporating yoga, sled work, etc....

Truth be told 98% of guys look like crap at 50 plus. The only exceptions are the guys juicing and as soon as they have heart problems, an enlarged prostate or some other health issue they will look like they never did a push up when they have to go off for ever. The few that can cycle till death are as rare as the 80 year old life long smoker. They exist but are hard to find.

I know plenty of guys in their 50s who have never even considered steroids but are in shape and still performing athletically at an above average level.
You're seeing more and more of it as people have woken up to the benefits of staying active.
A part of the reason those who exercise look like shit is because their egos make them think benching 300 and doing their heavy 1/4 squats but still having a gut is better than being lean/flexible and in good cardio shape.

Yes. I remember commenting to my friend when I saw Gaspari walking around at an Expo about 10 years ago that his glutes looked flat as a pancake in his jeans.

Something tells me that's happened a few times already. 54 is not old for surgery considering most heart patients are in their 70's. My mom (rip) had a full shoulder replacement at near 80 and rehabbed fine and Ronnie has survived a ton of surgeries.

Thyroid/ thymus is gone as well by the sounds of it; cig smoker, stims-->burnt adrenals (thyroid comes in to bail out the adrenals post burn out.) HPTA axis is prob smoked. Prob on TRT therapy as well....why go so heavy in the vids? Not just ego lifting (emotionally rooted) but also androgen brain it seems (chemically rooted)

Looks like the Juice has turned on Gaspari. Watching him workout it's like he has next to no mind/muscle connection. Just throwing the weight around. My guess is his body is riddled with Neuropathy. Very little feeling in the muscle regardless of the drugs he uses...

Mental help for sure. This is why I love Yates.
He has always carried himself with dignity and knows his limits. I once benched over 500lbs but even if AJ offered me free shooting lessons I would not go near the bench now. I know what I should and shouldn't be doing based on my age/injuries.

I met Gaspari in a gym a few months back, he was there meeting with a corporate purchasing agent for the gym, he is getting his line back up and running, it was pretty funny I walk in the gym and the first person I see is Rich, it was obvious he was conducting a sales pitch for his supplement line, he had a bunch of product spread out. Nobody really knew who he was besides a few of the personal trainers, he ended up commenting on my build and then asked me to try a few samples of his new protein, gave me a free shaker cup. He honestly looked good to me, but he had a athletic polo shirt on (like you see him wearing at expos), his arms were very vascular (not huge), I told him he looked great for his age, he wished me luck with everything. Didn't look like a guy in his 50's.

Gaspari's story is simple - unreal conditioning and consistency got him high placings until those with better structures were able to match it.

Rich looked fantastic back when he competed, alot better than what we see today, also more work ethic and probably one of harder training guys from then. Even Haney commented many times how hard Rich trained year round. Only thing is that kind of shit will tear you down when you get past 40. Look at branch, trained like crazy all his career and started breaking down near his 40's, although if you look at videos of rich back then in his heyday he did train hard but his form was 100 times better back then
Can't really comment on his physique at 54 because I am not 54 yet and don't want to put my foot in my mouth yet.
That being said if I was to critcize anything it is that he needs to lighten up a bit on certain movements, example it looks like he trains arms and chest alot lighter and his range of motion is limited on these due to injury. That would leave me the clue that perhaps I should lighten up on the shoulder, leg and back moves to save them from injury as well.
