Sadly, she was shot in Colombia "cartel style" by a pair of sicarios riding by on a motorcycle and shooting her down. I wonder if her assailants were family members of folks she might have sent to be killed during her former reign of terror.

From all the literature and information given to us via the media, he appears to have never used any cocaine. His supposed drug of choice was marijuana. He would smoke up in order to de-stress.
Why didn't he stop? My opinion is that he got too greedy and allowed all the power and money to overcome his ability to reason and stop while still ahead.
Towards the end, he started to kill his own partners in the cartel and alienated himself to the point where he had neighboring cartels turn on him, the Colombian military elite force and local police force, as well as the US DEA office go after him as well.
No matter who you are, with an entire country (police, military and criminal cartels) and the DEA coming after you, it is only a matter of time.
There was a time that Escobar was (and probably still will go down as) the richest criminal in the world, boasting of wealth in the billions, all the while having the most control of cocaine production in the world.
If he would have stopped once he had made billions and considered venturing into possibly something else, he would still be alive and respected within South America.
I think the man allowed his money, power and influence to produce such a god-complex that it brought about his own demise.

That woman was completely evil and murdered way too many people in her time. I found it sad that she was killed, because I feel that the US and Colombian governments could have possibly milked her for much more information and even then used her as some sort of government mole.
You can learn a lot from these criminal masterminds. For instance, Manuel Noriega is back in Panama after having served time in France and later being extradited back to Panama. He is still in prison, last I checked, but their government has learned a lot from him regarding the drug trades, techniques used by other drug lords and potential security loop holes that could have caused the inception of yet another mastermind like himself to take over Panama as he once did.
Don't kill these guys, instead, keep them incarcerated, milk them for all they are worth and then leave them there to rot in order to serve as an example of what happens to every bad guy sooner or later.
