Title: In the Trenches with Ryan Stamm & Mark Arvilla
Post by: michael arvilla on March 14, 2011, 09:29:37 AM
http://mdtv.musculardevelopment.com/trenches/3793-in-the-trenches-with-ryan-stamm-a-mike-arvilla.html (http://mdtv.musculardevelopment.com/trenches/3793-in-the-trenches-with-ryan-stamm-a-mike-arvilla.html)

When you meet 32 year old Ryan Stamm of Palm Beach Gardens , FL you see a 5’8, 250 pound beast. Ryan has been training with a strict and rigorous schedule as well as working full time proving to all that nothing is going to stop him. Ryan has overcome many hurdles that many could never fathom. Most quit, but Ryan has taken these hurdles and has treated them as life lessons that have made him stronger, better, and extraordinary.

Ryan has been competing for years. His first competition was the NPC Florida show in 2002. Unfortunately, Ryan did not place. That didn’t stop him from competing again. After all, he was merely just getting his feet wet so that he could reach his goals. In 2003, Ryan went at it again in the West Palm Beach Championships where he received 2nd place in the light heavyweight category. Ryan then went to the NPC Southern States competitions and placed 3rd in the Heavyweight class in 2004, then 2nd place in 2005 and 2006. Ryan’s last competition was in 2006 at the Bahamian Invitational where he received 1st place In the Heavyweight class. Ryan then took a hiatus to focus on his own personal life and ensuring that when he comes back for the NPC Sunshine Classic & Wheelchair Nationals on March 19th he will put all 100% of himself out there to place 1st.

Don’t think that Ryan has done this alone. To reach success you have to have important ingredients such as motivation and support. Ryan contacted Mike Arvilla, a personal trainer and bodybuilder in Palm Beach Gardens , to become a training partner. Mike has given Ryan the motivation that he needs to keep pushing and receive the results that are necessary to win. This duo is definitely a “well oiled machine”. Ryan is thankful for the support that he receives from his girlfriend, A’lea, who has been patient and understanding of the time and devotion that he is putting into winning the Sunshine Classic. Good luck, Ryan!

Mike Arvilla is Ryan Stamm's workout partner and what seems like also Ryan's promoter as Mike's getting the word out that Ryan is out to win some shows with his size and conditioning. Follow this In the Trenches workout with Ryan Stamm as he's two weeks out from the 2011 NPC Sunshine State
Oh Brother. Mike's now talking in the third person. This is always how it starts. It won't end well. PIP.    ;D

Amazing how you crept out of the darkness the minute you were mentioned! Tell us more about the acrimonious split between Palumbo and 'Billy Guns' - I missed the CNN expose as I was out of the country doing important work for the interior ministry at the time.

Would it be wrong for me to say that Ryan can achieve better conditioning than Jay Cutler?  That's not just due to Jay's mass either, I think it's just a property some have and some don't.  I don't think Jay can really get that hard and grainy and vascular.

Great work on being on the show Mike!  MD would be smart to do more shows featuring some of the bigger board members who have a following on the boards.

Thanks Matt!  (i dunno about "Better Conditioning" than Jay Cutler/Ryan can get "wicked cuts" and even has "cross-striated quads" right now....but remember Jay in "01" i think?/and earlier in his career...he was actually known for very good/if not "freaky" conditioning) Later year Jay Cutler not so much i agree...even Jay at "96 Nationals" was in freaky shape!)

Alex you should be on the show too, ideally with Nasser.  It's nice to see some personality in these videos.  Although from my experience, people want to watch bodybuilders pose more than hear them talk.  It's like when you said no one watches these videos anymore.  That's also why changing things up might help.

That's true, Jay looked great that year.  I'm not sure what it is, maybe a hardness thing.  Ryan's muscles just look like they would be denser.  It's kind of like Paco Bautista.  He may not be at Jay's level overall but even at Jay's best, he would not be as hard as Paco is on an average performance.  I think these kinds of things are genetic although no doubt a bodybuilder's stack/diet/training play a role.

Not only I think that, what I call "branded" getbiggers, like us, should stick together but Mike, you have yourself accomplished a lot, even in adversity and followed your dreams, sounds cheezy but nothing short of inspiring. I remember seeing those old pics of you with Benfatto... all excited about bodybuilding... that passion, that many of us still have... :) Worth a ton of gold these days.

As for ur buddy, to be honest, that gut is huge for an amateur, don't know how he's goin to improve more for the pro's and not look like he's got a beach ball strapped to his midsection.

I thought i would share feelings that i had posted over at MD.."Laura is living her own life (happily i hope/i want nothing but the best for her!/i was with her 24-7 for 5 years....she was my best friend/world)
my "obsession" for my bodybuilding ultimately was our "demise (there is much more to life than "bodybuilding")....always planning getting ready for that "next show",for her it was a (healthy" hobby) (for me it became my world),I'm to blame here ...people "break up" all the time.....in our case my "first love" was bodybuilding/Laura was second, (now my priorities have shifted) my first love is family (taking care of my elderly mother, who after my sister was just killed recently in an automobile crash) I'm all my mom has left in this world (and she gets lonely sad and depressed and turns to alcohol to "comfort her) i have no delusions of grandeur (I'm never going to be an IFBB Pro) but my love and passion for the sport has never waned....hopefully all these "hard times" make me a better person ....and i "man up" and take care of my mom for the rest of her life!...i want to be a "better man/better person", If i can help Ryan realize his dream of "turning professional" that would be extremely gratifying to me (I'm 47 bro...
my ship has sailed) Ryan is helping me at least (if not more than i am helping him) ....i can't help loving this sport and the camaraderie of the people involved in it!, (u seem very intelligent) there are no twins,no pregnant wife etc etc...i shall find everything i am searching for in life eventually bro! (just might take some time( life is farrr to short to be "bitter" or hold on to the past....onward and upward my friend!!! (thx for listening to me/letting me "ramble" on lol!)

"CJ" ? (Cynthia James) nooooo ..but i went down to her shop (where she makes all the "posing suits" for the competitors) and met her for the first time (what a sweetheart!).. I went down with Ryan on Friday to get his trunks...she could not have been a nicer or sweeter person!,her shop was like a "who's who" of professional and amateur bodybuilders and fitness/figure competitors
my next show ill def get my trunks from her (great fit!/last time i ordered a couple pair off "the net" they did not fit very well at all)
she is the best at what she does imo!

As for ur buddy, to be honest, that gut is huge for an amateur, don't know how he's goin to improve more for the pro's and not look like he's got a beach ball strapped to his midsection.

he cant be a pro,,too big in the wrong places,,no real muscle flow,,condition is good for his size ,,but this fella shoud haev be 195lb and insted chose to be 210+....his choice but also ruined himself for pro,,sometimes size is not everything ,,this is prime example of this case,,if he was 6'1 id understand but nah this level will be wiped off the floor with 197 bob chic when turned pro...just doesnt have the muscle development,, what he has is muscle mass and condition but the muscles are just not developed tot he level needed in top nationals or the pros ...

very similar to getny problem ,,many fellas i see with this problem ,,they try to be big big but its not real musculatority development it is more of induced drug size of meat and it just doesnt flow ,,,5;8 shoudol never be over 200lb on stage EVER! not in the matuer,,yes yes you will bring jason huh and all that balonie,,but jason huh will never get anywher ein the pros he is done,,maxed and washed same for many who just...they just use those gh and insulin and ruin themselves,,

take frank zane,,,185lb 5'9 and he would wash the floor with this fella on stage ,,WASH THE DAMN FLOOR,,not only frank zane but many others in lower level shows would wipe floor with him

gh15 approved

Thank you Alex!  (right back atcha) and Flexington......Ryan is just doing what he loves (he has a full time job,a great, super sweet girlfriend ....who is he harming?)

So let's see how far he can go with it........that's all

Don't mind "ArmchairNPCJudgeSteele" Mike... his brainwashing to negativity is quite complete... he forgot that bodybuilding can be fun and fulfilling.

It saddens me...

I hate all the "Negativity"..... bodybuilding can be fun and rewarding (it's not all about "going pro" ...it can be a great hobby/something healthy to channel your interests and enthusiasm into!)
it Saddens me to see all the negativity .....let's have fun with it!

wether it's bbing, running, sewing or the like, just enjoy what you enjoy

Thank you Alex!  (right back atcha) and Flexington......Ryan is just doing what he loves (he has a full time job,a great, super sweet girlfriend ....who is he harming?)
We compete because we love it/it's our passion (not looking to "cash in" or be "the next great thing")
it's in our blood/part of who we are,Ryan is a great kid/very loyal friend
So let's see how far he can go with it........that's all

So Mike your telling me that your friend Ryan is taking grams of aas, copius amount of kidney harming diuretics on contest day, kit after kit of growth hormone, exogenous insulin, clen,t3,and eca's just for the fun of it??

Im sure he wants to go pro.

I don't want to argue with you bro.......yes he is giving it his best shot (what he isn't doing is "banking on it" pinning all his hopes on that pro-card) Case in Point my good friend and former gym owner Marty Vranicar .....gave it all he had (if your going to do something do it right) won his Pro-Card at the Masters Nationals in Pittsburgh ( he did it.. he accomplished his goal/a lifelong dream) he will probably never set foot on a pro-stage....and that's ok (that was his dream/we all have them) whether Ryan get's his pro-card or not he realizes what's really/most imporant in life....and that is love/family/relationships/jobs/careers....not a trophy or an IFBB Pro-card (he is not waiting for some lucrative endorsement contract) he and myself are doing what we love.....training to compete (i just need to get "my shit together" as far as employment and a great girl/woman) maybe it's not so healthy competing at the national level....it's his health tho..let him live his life as he wants to ok? Ryan loves bodybuilding as do i...end of story

Mike, you need to start getting in shape in your contests to be called a competitive bodybuilder. Every show you do, you get last place. No shit you are not going pro. Get off Ryan's nuts. You look like his bitch. Maybe that's what you want.

i have never finshed lower than 3rd (two times i took second the first place guys went on to become IFBB Pros a week or a few weeks later) but whatever you want to believe.....im not going to argue with you (im a "decent" bodybuilder.....the NPC is filled with "decent" bodybuilders)

Im not arguing with you at all Mike.

But a great man once said " ...children just do what they love all day without regard for long term consequence... ADULTS do not... "

Come on Mike placing 2nd when there are only two guys in your class is the same as placing last.  What guys that you competed against are pros now?

So that we're clear Mike, somebody made a comment about your sister (I forget who), and I LOL'd.  I had no idea they were referring to someone that had passed away.  As soon as it was brought to my attention, I myself deleted it.  I apologize.

My thoughts regarding bodybuilding "hatred":

End of the day, it's only serious if you make a crusade out of it... otherwise, it's just internet rumors and mass hysteria....

I've learned early on in life that people who do 180's then try to convince everybody else with endless dialogs of congruence are just doing so to cope with their own failure and inability to accept their current state.

It's often triggered by life events hard to accept; example back in 2002 a friend of mine, both of us fresh out of Standford 2 years before, his company got acquired; he had to make the hard choice of enjoying life/proceed money a little then look for the next gig; or be a pussy, listen to his whinny wife and move back to Montreal.

The choice was easy but he obviously made the wrong one. As he was planning his move with bitch wife, all he would talk about is how Silicon valley sucks, how it is in decline, how much better montreal is.. blah blah blah...

... a year later, I visited him, he was miserable, knowing he past on a LOT, but yet, was still trying to convince himself...

sounds familiar ;)
