Back in the 80s, my neighbourhood was a wonderful area, pity i didn't appreciate what i had as much then.
Nowadays you mostly see africans and arabs, no matter where you go.
If you've experienced Sweden in the 70s up until now as i have, you can see a quite depressing change, and the amount increases at an alarming rate.
Wherever you go (you're only safe in your office), you hear some foreign language (african or arabic) thinking you are in some foreign country instead of your beloved home.
In the early 90s, i left Sweden and lived in Paris for some time, but it was the same there, africans and arabs wherever you went.
I didn't stay long in Paris i tell ya, but who knew that Sweden has reached the same state now in the 2000s?
No matter where you look these days, there are Burkas all around and people speaking some distant language, nobody is speaking swedish. Too many thugs and gangrapes occuring.
And even today as i was heading to the bank, there was a rotund lady covered in some foreign garb and a burka, mumbling some incoherent language to me as she was sitting on the ground.
She looked at me and said some incomprehensible words in some language, i believe she was begging and wanted money, but who knows really? They don't speak swedish and not even english.
This NEVER happened before! Not in this area!

Fucked up Politics. Too lenient immigration policies.
Wished i was more active politically than i was (i was in the council for younger members (below 30) for the Socialdemocrats) back in the day, but that was the extent of it.
Stopped caring about politics as i reached 30 and focused on other matters, which might have been a mistake in hindsight.
Not that one person could make a difference, you need many people for things to happen.
We have parties now that focus more on the immigrationproblem, but it's too late, the damage is already done.

Awesome book, one of the books I read while me and my wife were remodeling our house for the baby, and living in a shithole. I picked it up while looking for something else. I actually thought it would be about one of the other revolutions in the mid 1800's, or something like that, then read the dust jacket and was like, "gotta get it".

Germany is currently in election mode and asylum seekers are an issue most politicians there prefer to avoid. In countries like Spain and Greece, where the economic crisis continues to hit hard and unemployment is on the rise, governments fear that helping Syrian refugees may be met with resentment by the local populations. Other states like France and the Netherlands — as well as Greece — are experiencing growing nationalism and xenophobia inflamed by ultra-right movements, and the authorities are all too aware of the sensitivity to bringing in more foreign nationals.
In the midst of this general European reluctance, one country stands out: Sweden announced last week that it would give asylum to all Syrian refugees who apply, making it the first and only country in the European Union to have this kind of open-door policy for Syrians dealing with one of the worst periods of bloodshed in modern history. The decision, says Anders Danielsson, director-general of Sweden’s Migration Board, “stems from the EU’s failure to act on growing numbers of refugees” and was made “because we believe the violence in Syria will not end in the near future.”

Jan Ekberg, Prof of International Economics, Linnea University, conducted research in 2010 for Migrationverket on the effects of immigration. He discovered that the Swedish Govt spent over SEK 50 billion every year supporting unemployed immigrants and their families. He said that on average immigrants were unemployed for EIGHT years. He concluded that Sweden is allowing immigrants into Sweden when there are no jobs available for them.
Since 2010 unemployment for those aged between 15 and 24 years has risen to 24% (ch scb). I have mailed Tobias Billström asking him what measures the Swedish govt has taken so that immigrants coming from Syria do not become permanently supported by the state. I await an answer!

Yea I used to lean democrat and laugh at the 'paranoid' conservatives who said that..but they were right all along. They were right about almost everything. Ill never vote for anyone but conservative now. And liberalism IS the force almost singularly responsible for the decline and eventual death of western civilization. Is it really this bad, or is it just this site? I don't watch too much world news, and what I get comes from BBC, but it seems that some nationalist movements are growing in Europe. Hopefully this next generation will bring it harder, as they always seem to do. People need to indoctrinate their children with xenophobic ideals, thus getting rid of the problem. I really love the country side, admire how well everything works. I admire the people. Particularly how reserved they are and how hard it is to connect with anyone. It suits me more than perfectly fine. It's probably the biggest selling point for me.

By the way, Islam isn't a race so any criticism against it can't be deemed racist. 24K, what is your take on these immigrants coming over and installing their form of Sharia Law? At what point do you say, "no"? The views of these immigrants/refugees, are not compatible with the Western way of life, and until they leave their beliefs and customs at the door (which is almost impossible), then they should not be welcome. This holds true in any country, European or otherwise. IT's no different in my mind, than our form of spreading democracy, which I am against. Isolationism should be looked into seriously in the coming years.

If someone chooses to live their life according to Sharia Law, as long as it doesn't conflict with the governing law of the land, I have no problem with it. I don't want anyone imposing their standards and customs on me, so I don't expect to be able to impose mine on others.

But it does conflict. When a person willfully chooses to immigrate to a country that holds certain values and customs they should not expect to live contrary to those values. I would never move to a country, let's say japan, and expect to live as an american.

It weakens social cohesion and diminishes public trust. Every study on the subject indicates this happens when cultures don't assimilate to the native dominant culture. Their value system does not promote the general welfare of the native people but only those of their own culture thus creating an adversarial relationship between the cultures. This is particularly true when the state is forced to intercede when cultural practices of immigrants is in direct conflict with the laws and norms of the state.
They are a monetary drain. It requires money to educate immigrants in order that they are at leas able to function at the most basic level. Resources could be better allocated to serve the interests of the native peoples.
