The GOP did propose some amendments to increase competiion, tort reform, etc, and they were all defeated.

But, not doing anything is precisely what landed us into this mess to begin with.  There are problems with our healthcare system.  Not small problems.  Not irrelevant problems.  But huge, glaring issues that need to be addressed.  And for years the Republicans sat on their collective asses not doing a fucking thing.

And now we're getting a shitty alternative rammed down our throats.  IMO, the Republicans better start fighting this thing a lot smarter.  Reform is coming.  The real issue is will it be something that we can live with or something intolerable.

No, doing things IS precisely what got us into this mess. It started back in WW2 in which we had price controls that encouraged employers to pay for thier employees healthcare, then there were changes in the tax code that encouraged that even more, then we had medicare and medicaid that caused a huge increase in prices over a number of decades. Though it is true that things need to be done to undo those things.
