Actually, cleans are one of the best exercises.  The jerk part I think is less helpful - no double entendre intended.

The most sore my traps would ever get were not from deadlifts or shrugs, but from cleans to true muscular failure.

It's a very athletic exercise - involves not just strength, but also speed + balance - good for wrestling.
