Friendly Letter... Help!
« on: June 18, 2009, 02:40:40 PM »
Does anyone know a good substitute for "Dear" in a friendly letter?

I don't like Dear, but I also don't want to say the persons name without addressing the person in some way...

 ???

Define 'friend' and what type of letter it is.

It's actually a thank you letter to someone that did me a big favor.

I've just always felt that saying "Dear, name" is so.... Gay...  ;D

No, it is good form. A real letter in the age of the internetz!? Well done! I haven't written a real letter in a long time.

You got the
Heading and the
Greeting and the
Body and the
Closing and the
Sig-na-ture.

How i remembered it in 2nd grade.

Just qualify it - ie: Dear (I'm not gay btw) So and so,

easy

Dear is fine, sad that we should be so sensitive in this glorious new age of ours where apparently we are now all so open minded and accepting of each other

Just use the person's name.  Like:

"Gary:  Thanks so much for the reach around last night while you were fucking me in the ass.  Signed--RPF"

You could start off with:

Good Day Steve,

blah blah blah

Of course, Dear so & so is more than acceptable.

Just the name is fine too.

i use "oh" instead of "dear", and finish with "by the way":

"Oh Steve,

thanks for not telling my parents i was gay, by the way."
