We have a good chance, since some of us have the fountain of youth aka the afro-gene.

Saw him 10 years ago in the Stallone version of Get Carter.
He fought Stallone in the movie and looked great.
Amazing what 10 years can do. Looks like he's aged 25
in the last 10.
(Still a very unique guy and as I get older I am drawn more
to peoples personality than how they look.)
Even less than 10 years ago in that movie where he played a bounty hunter
he looked good. I don't buy the boxing period of his life is the reason
his face looks like it does because both of these movies are WAY after
all the boxing stuff.

Go to 2:00 for Rourke scene:

Only real "excuse" he has for the media and his shattered mind. I would say the same.

Excessive alcohol is not the way to go but Rourke looks the way he does primarily due to excessive and bad plastic surgery.

Didn't he also get pretty messed up from boxing which was part of the reason for some of the plastic surgery?  He seems like a genuinely nice person, at least from the interviews I've seen.

Boxing facial injuries may have been a factor but his skin has been pulled back to the extent that he has no sideburns.

I agree, he seems decent and he's well liked.

Gosh, I never noticed that, it's like he's got toe nails for finger nails :o.

That being said, I do agree that it's a combination of age, hard living, and trying to fix boxing damage that roughed his face up.

It would be interesting to find various various after match shots of his face, to see how much damage was actually being done to it.
