This is great but it's not a first. Mits has been doing this for years (although I personally think the production quality of his videos is horrendous)

No...Mit's puts out the "Battle for the Olympia"....AFTER the show has come and gone.
Were doing this as close to LIVE as we can...shooting/ editing/ and loading it 72 hours after we shoot it...
Just like you watch a football game every week up to the Superbowl...you get to watch 2-3 Olympians training/ prepping every week up to the Superbowl of BB...the Olympia.

Mits has nothing to worry about. The bbing.com shows are going to be aimed at a wider variety of fans...not the hardcore kind who buy Mit's vids and watch a short chubby Japanese man wearing kneepads follow around and shakily film his monstrous counterparts.
Those who bought TBFTO before will continue to do so. This is a great idea for the rest of us.

It's amazing how the MD claimed 6 months ago that they were all for unity and they are the ones segregating themselves. Very disappointed in the Steve Blechman and his "team".

Whats going on is getting it loaded up to the FTP server...were using brand new equipment and on the road as were doing it, so we encountered some trouble because of the file size...this isn't some small video...it's more like a movie in size, special effects, and quality as were shooting it in HD as well....
The boys will get it locked down by tomorrow...

Victor arrived yesterday. I talked to him at dinner last night he said, Blechman didn't want his guys involved (Wolf, Dexter, Melvin, Etc) because he had his own Web site for them to appear on.
HHHHmmmmmmmmm, Victor emphatically stated, he has no problems shooting it but he listens to the guy who signs his checks, meaning he wont be appearing in the Series. :-\

Yeah... god for bid an athletes likeness appeared on a non-profit website or promoted the "sport" of bodybuilding in any way. Oh wait, Bodybuilding.com plans to pull in thousands of users to their site with this footage to garner more income from their supplement sales and yet the bodybuilders will recieve nothing. :-\

I wish it were just that...it's a 45 minute movie, and were on the road as were filming it, editing, etc...using new, state of the art equipment, it's a compatability issue...
I've been working on a few ideas to compensate the athletes...keep in mind..this is for the Olympia, and our part in it wasn't exactly "free"...we paid for the right to do what were doing, so before eveeryone starts crying about the athletes getting "screwed"..let's remember that we have spent well in excess of 250K.

Ohhh.. you made it seem as if this video was mainly being created to promote the Olympia not Bodybuilding.com. I have no problem with that. So you pay out 250k+ and any athlete who is competing in the Olympia "has" to appear in this video but doesn't see a dime from the 250k. Yeah they ain't getting screwed. But Hey it's not your fault Bob

What your missing is this if for the benefit of you "The Fans" as well as the Athletes for promotion of themselves and the sport.
When some athletes careers are over, they may only have this footage of what they looked like, what they were thinking, how they felt, etc to document thei time spent in this arena.
Ask some of the old timers who didn;t capture their time in this business on film what they'd give in exchange for what these athletes are getting free of charge!
Not every knucklehead will understand that but trust me, the Bodybuilders do!

Well Bob I understand what it takes to get video to the internet and all but you did in ticker tape parade bost this thing as if you guys had it all in place and ready for July 9th. well july 9th has come and gone and those who look for failure will bring out your flaws....did you guys not run video test uploading issues with these state of the art equipment...I mean this is in some fashion brought on by yourself in promoting with out having all your T's crossed and I's dotted. But im sure when the bugs are worked out it will be primo. Just next time you get new equipment test it a bit before marketing starts running wild. Peace Big man,

I think the picture quality was acceptable.
The content was great. the overdubs worked out well.
Though it sounded as though you were asked 2 questions during his set, as he didn't really respond?
Some posing would be nice (with overdubs), the lighting could be a bit better for more visual of the muscles being worked.
Overall I think you'll have made a great start.

I didn't like the pop ups. I couldn't read the first one or two and they make the film look cheap. The video quality was OK for the internet, but I had a problem understanding the dialogue. I could understand Bob alright but others were much quieter and difficult to understand with the background noise. I only watched about ten minutes because I don't know who Marcus Haley is and I couldn't get into watching him train.
If you have better audio and bodybuilders I have heard of then I would definately watch it all the way through.

Like I mentioned earlier I was able to get most of the way through it before being kicked off. However the pop ups werent working for me. As in I didnt really care for them.
As for audio, maybe a guy w/a boom mic or having the guys w/a microphone on them would help. It always sounded like Marcus was whispering when talking between sets.

We've already fixed the audio problem...and the grainy quality was due to the problems in loading it/ size it was compressed to.
I appreciate all the comments....

I liked the shorter version but if i was looking to sit down and learn more about the bodybuilder id probably go for the longer version. Overall i'd say theyre both good depending on whether you want more or less.

Good series. Decent video quality but I think the sound could have been better, but it was bearable. I can't wait to see more.

Maybe some numbers about his diet: grams of protein, carbs, fat (bulk and cut); foods that he likes for cutting/drying him out...
Who was his rolemodel, does he have a favourite bodybuilder like Arnold or Haney or Bob Cicherello...

When I tried to watch using internet explorer my internet explorer crashed after watching a couple of minutes so I had to use Mozilla Firefox to see the whole episode. On the boards here in belgium and the netherlands there are a lot of people with this problem. Maybe that's the reason why you think that people want a short version video because there computer crashes after a couple of minutes watching and it seems they quit watching.

It worked fine for me, I thought it was good as Bob helped to provide some color to it. I agree the lighting in certain places (i.e. Longhorns) was bad. But great to see Bob follow Marcus around and document some of his typical day type stuff.

Watched most of the long version of Marcus Hayley. Just saw that there is a new one of a female BB'er (can't remember name).Would watch the whole thing if it were a bodybuilder i was more familiar with, but still cool. Quality was ok. Sound needs work though, very hard to hear Marcus talking. Content was good. Pop ups were, imo, a bit lame. What other pros are going to be in this series? Overall i think you are doing a great job Bob of giving us BB'ing fans as much coverage of the pros as possible. Keep up the good work.

The newest one is very much improved, in my opinion, better sound quality and higher video quality. I personally like the shorter version as I am more inclined to watch them online. The longer versions I'd download to my ipod of iphone to watch while traveling.

If I remember correctly, Bob, you said that this series was unique because videos would be posted literally within a few days of being shot so that the show is pretty much live, the whole concept of the series. Now, on the radio show you listed half a dozen athletes already filmed, so does that mean they will all be posted this week to keep the unique live timeline, or will some athletes shot be posted weeks later? I understand it takes time to edit, etc. But if the turnaround time will no longer be a few days for each athlete, how long of a time are we looking at?

the marcus haley episode was pretty good, but this last one with the female bb, seemed a bit rushed and didnt have enough "meat and potatoes" in it. It was just an appetizer.

i agree...but training shouldnt be special. its the consistancy that gives the results combined with sustained hard enough effort. not going to the gym to scream and do endless forced reps, just to quit after 2 years.
the more glass can normalize and make silvios training boring..the better results silvio will get

Are all olympia series will be made in the US, or a you planing to come to visit our german Prof.-Bodybuilders here in germany ?? (Markus Rühls Fitness-Center it´s only 5 minutes away from Frankfurt-Airport). Dennis Wolf trains and live around 130 miles away from Rühl (Dortmund/Germany). But Ronny Rockel trains in the former eastern-part of germany (about 4 hours with a car away from Frankfurt).

The film thing is kind of rediculous. You spend thousands of dollars on charter planes,
hotel expenses, and hi-end cameras. The cheapest thing, yet one of the most important
things is the film. From what I understand, the Freeman segment was cut short too.
Add a key grip or best boy to the budget to ensure film is available.

You doing a great job Bob. Just finished watching Melvin in far away Accra in Ghana in West Africa. Dont think about, for its difficult if not impossible to have any of this on this part of the world. I will come to the states some day after getting my MBA in february and have a feel and at least watch a show. I loved Body building and Bob and Bodybuilding.com always gets me in touch through the internet to the world of bodybuilding.

Yeah I agree, Quincy's interview on PBW really setup some great storylines for the next few months. I think it's great to see some guys mixing it up. I like his "DO YOU KNOW WHAT I DO" attitude.

So i watched the olympia series with quincy, x-men, and silvio. Im very surprised with silvio's personality, he actually has something to tell. Quincy is is a funny guy, but he and x-men, dont come across as themselves, they re pretending to be somebody, if you listen to Silvio, he's telling it like it is, intelligent, and true to himself.

Just watched the JOJ video. Pretty good, except i thought i was watching a muscletech ad or something. Other than that it was very good.
Also, is it possible to do something about the lighting. In the JOJ video it seemed OK, but in the previous ones it was impossible to see anything when it was being filmed indoors.

I shoot as many qualified athletes a the schedule (and budget) allows....filming QT or JOJ, Cormier, etc makes for great content as they all could very well qualify....there is no down side that I can see.
As for Dennis Wolf, marcus Ruh, Ronnie Rockel, Gustavo....If they are in the states prior to the Olympia, perhaps we could get them as well.....I've traveled enough this year.

in all serousness though; if youve never tried doing deads on the smith you should really try them out next back day. i love doing them. you can go really heavy, and it gives you an awesome deep burn in the lats when you do 'em right. i like to do them first, so my lats are pumped when i do my pull downs, thus making it easier to isolate my back from my bi's in that movement.

Just wanna say that you guys have done a great job with this series.....especially since it's the first time with it. 8) Chic, I've busted your balls on a lot of stuff, and you've fired right back. For that you deserve kudos for doing a great job on this. You're starting to get really good at this my friend. Keep up the good work! I don't know if it was my suggestion that got you to do it, but I'm glad to see that you ended up making these be viewable in full screen mode after the first few.
I really hope that you guys shoot the O in normal mode. When I hooked up one of the webcasts of one of the shows to my bigscreen, it seemed like everyones physique was really distorted bcuz it was shot with a wide screen angle cam. Even Gustavo's atrophied legs are going to look like Platz's if you do that for the O. :P I'd definitely prefer to pay 30 bucks to see it done right, but it is what it is, and I just wanna say thanks to bb.com for providing this series, the smaller shows, listening to our suggestions, and soon the Mr. O for free in lieu of the PPV!
