Title: is jay the most unknown Number one in his field in the world?
Post by: Tom on September 27, 2009, 03:51:31 PM
congrats to jay, but as i read today's sunday sports page, i had to wonder, just how famous is jay outside the bb/fitness world and las vegas?

weird how he can be rich, be number one in his field, the most famous person probably in the bb world, but unknown to the general public and the fact that his "sport" is not covered in any newspaper or tv, except perhaps in las vegas news?

About 5-10% of population know Arnold was a bodybuilder haha, that gives you a hint.  ;D

The reason is the Weiders never wanted BB to be a "known" sport.  They were very happy having it remain a low-key sport (word used loosely) because it helped avoid any major scrutiny like real major sports.  Why doesn't BB have major general sponsors like American Express, Ford, GM, or any other major company outside of the BB world.  Look at most of the ballparks around the country nowadays.  They are all named after major companies cause those companies buy into the team and sponsor them and help pay for the field or stadium.  BUT when a sponsor like that gets involved they WANT to be involved.  This would mean the Weiders would have to have had to answer to people outside the BB "click".  They would have lost some if not most of their power and influence.  Keeping BB low-key is a good thing.  If it got out in public more then parents, moms and others would demand things that BB would not survive.

well put noworries! weiders: the fathers and yet also the ruin of pro bodybuilding! you think when their power is all gone (joe passes away) that whoever or whatever takes over bodybuilding and the mr.olympia, and the mags and so on, they will press and attempt to get bodybuilding well known outside it's current status?

or no matter what these new powers that be will also try to keep bb as a low key "sport"

He is not an unknown. Just not as widely known or talked about as top players in the more mainstream sports.

I'm sure he has enough people recognizing him wherever he goes and is known by millions of people all over the world, which is nothing to be sneezed at.

Bodybuilding is a muscle beauty pageant.

No one cares about it, except the freaks on getbig.com LOL (myself included)

More people recognize Nasser even to this day and they all say he's The Uncrowned Mr Olympia at least three times

Unfortunately, No one needs Congress to investigate BB in order to determine it's ALL DRUGS. It's not mainstream for this reason alone.

Klaus, don't take this personally, but I think you pulled this number out of your ass.  Most people look at a huge dude like Arnold and think he must be a bodybuilder.

About 5-10% of population know Arnold was a bodybuilder haha, that gives you a hint.  ;D

Complete and utter rubish...

Everytime any person has to refer to a bodybuilder or somebody that look like a bodbuilder - or anything that has to do
with bodybuilding they refer to Arnold.

Wow that giuy looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger
Nah thanks I don't want to look like Arnold.

Cricket is watched by over a billion people...I think they are far more popular than you might think. Tendulkar, Flintoff and Shane Warne are known in every country cricket is played in. NFL???? err I dont know many people outside USA who would recognise a Football player.

That aside im 100% certain that a sizable population in England would know who Jay Cutler is, he appeared in a few teenage magazines and 'Lads Mags' as theyre called, a few of my friends who knew nothing about bodybuilding know of him and would recognise him, admittedly its not a huge amount, but enough that he'd get stopped for a photo every five-ten mins in the street. Famous enough for my liking!!

BB is like a beauty contest like Miss America or Miss Universe.  Not that many people know who the winner is outside of the people who follow it.  WHo here can name the current Miss America or Miss Universe.  But ask someone who competes in beauty pageants and they will tell you.

look.  i have jay 2 z, and he is recognize by kids and adults. i'd say people who workout more or less.  in the vid he is in a stripe mall and a car full of kids are calling..."jay culter...u the man!"  several times he was out and people knew.  anyway...it's nice he won.  i'd like to see comeback polished in 10 with the other guys on and see what happens.  hopefully the money is good to keep him around. he's not ronnie but he's a good 3-time champ and big enough whereas people notice him from the avg guy.  that's pretty much the key.  sorry dex...but u can disappear in a crowd of jr high sttudents.
