Greatest MMA Fight Ever.
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:13:48 AM »
This happened a decade ago back in 2002, but is still the most vicious war we have ever seen in MMA. The part where Frye and Akiyama grab each other's heads with one of their arms and bang each other with the other arm is classic.

Greatest MMA fight was Sakuraba v. Carlos newton (even though it was a "work")

Sucky, awesome video although I had to go to youtube to find it for some reason. Dude, do you have any fights of Mark Kerr. The man was an animal in the day. Do you think he could stand with the guys now?

Mark Kerr back in 1999 was the man. His fight with Vovchanchyn was epic.

Could he fight with the heavyweights today? Definitely, as he had outstanding Muay Thai and a lot of power. I don't think, though, he would do that well against really skilled wrestlers like Cain Velasquez or Shane Carwin. MMA favors werestlers because humans have a high center of gravity and are thus easy to take down. Kerr could be top 10 on his sheer size, strength and KO power, but I am not sure if he would be top 5 because I don't know how he would do against really elite wrestlers.

Hagler is my 3rd favorite fighter of all time. I could watch all 2 and a half rounds over and over again. Greatest fight ever.

(Tyson , Pacman other two favorites)

Yep. PRIDE was the elite back in a time when the UFC was a show for trailer park trash. Chuck Liddel could be seen as the embodiment of trailer park trash.

Only 5 PRIDE fighters went to the UFC, and 3 of them won division belts(Big Nog, Anderson Silva and Shogun Ruas). This proves the higher level of PRIDE fighters. Pretty much the only elite PRIDE fighter who failed in the UFC is Cro Cop.

Cro Cop's failure is due to the fact that the cage does not fit his style. His style has always been to set his opponet for his devastating left leg kick, and the huge octagon does not allow him to do that effectively like the smaller ring from PRIDE did.

Pretty much the only 2 fighters who are "born and bred" in the UFC who are on the level of elite PRIDE fighters are GSP and Jon Jones, and that is pathetic when you consider that the UFC has almost a thousand fighters in it's roster - all seven divisions together.

I agree with Che on this one. Kerrs bread and butter was wrestling. His striking really lacked he just used brute strength. He trained with the hammer house team all those guys were top notch wrestlers.
