Title: Spartacus: Blood and Sand
Post by: Hugo Chavez on January 30, 2010, 07:17:33 PM
Anybody watching this?  I like it so far and can't go wrong with all the T&A.  I was a little disapointed at the overuse of 300 style battles.  That worked great for 300 and gave it a graphic novel feel but it seems after 300, everyone started over using it.  I think it slows the pace a little to much for Spartacus but everyone seems to like it in the reviews.  The people behind this, especially Robert Tapert and Sam Raimi are freaking masters of their own style which is another thing that shocks me with the strong 300 feel.  Looking forward to this developing into an even better show with these two involved.

The first episode was pretty good, nice seeing a woman with a nicely trimmed bush :D. Only saw the part of the 2nd ep, the battles are bloody, killing is raw. Seeing Lucy Lawless being fingered by a slave woman and her husband being sucked off by another was historically intrigueing, yet very tittilating. Because they were trying to be historically accurate with the daily lives of upper echelon Romans, and Roman life in general.

that's because it's on Stars.  They chunked out a shitload of money and they hope to get it back plus in people signing up for Stars.  If they showed all the episodes on the internet, there would be little in it for them.  I'm glad it's on Stars personally.  If not, it would be a highly censored version of what the creators wanted so I'm willing to pay 10 bucks a month to see the show in all it's blood guts and T&A...  Many don't want to pay or support shows they like and still find a way to see the shows.  I'm sure they're being uploaded somewhere.

Forget that...the whole first season is already on Netflix.  I watched all 12 episodes available this weekend.

1. Spartacus' dead wife is SMOKING HOT.  Drop dead gorgeous.

2. I love the boobies, bush, and sex scenes.  Some of them had my woody standing tall.

Ok, on to the show.  I love the classic Roman politics and behind the scenes.  I actually like the Crixus character...what about you guys?  I bet he gets both the slave girl and even the infertile Lacretia pregnant soon and the slave girl gets killed and he becomes Spartacus' right hand man with the revolt.  Also, that "exhibition" fight that didn't end well really through me for a loop; that was some crazy shit!  The manipulation of Spartacus is honestly damn near genius.  I'm glad that now all hell is really about to break loose as someone else said.

I heard that they canceled this show after the first season due to all of the soft porn themes.  Any truth to this?

Andy Whitfield, who plays the title role in the Starz Original series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The British-born actor will begin treatment immediately.

The network says the cancer was discovered during a routine checkup as the 38-year-old Whitfield prepared to begin shooting the second season of the action-adventure series, which is filmed in New Zealand.

Starz said Tuesday that production has been postponed while Whitfield undergoes treatment.

According to the network, doctors say the cancer was detected in its early stages and is "very treatable."

I don't think so, they were already filming the second season.  It's going to be delayed because the guy that plays spartacus was diagnosed with cancer and had to start treatments.  It's getting good ratings, I guess some of the best ever for stars so I doubt they'll cancel it.

SPOILER WARNING:

Holy fucking shit.  They were not kidding with the title of the last episode, "Kill them all" :o :o :o

Kind of a bummer that Lucretia(Lucy Lawless) will not see the next season while a douchbag like Ashur escapes the bloodbath.  I'd rather see more of Lucy's tit's in the next season :D  Aside from that, holy fucking shit this is the best season finale ever.

we'll probably have to wait longer for the next season; hopfully Andy Whitfield makes a full recovery.

Thank you, I checked last night and it was there so I watched it.  Even my ex would be screaming fuck yeah at the TV!  That last episode was great!  Spot on!

Now, would anybody like to guess what happens next season?  I'm thinking the slaves get better organized and start breaking out other gladiator schools(like in the movie).  I'm really hoping to see Doctore(sp) kick some major ass as he wooped up on Crixus and Spartacus at the same time.  I can't quite guess what happens to Ilithia as she wants to get back with her husband.  I don't think Legatus or Rome will be really threatened this next season either; maybe in the 3rd season if there is going to be one.

Any other guesses?

rating are the best Stars has had.  It stayed at a constant for most of the series but jumped toward the end.  The second season was actually given a go before the first season even started.  With the names attached to the making of it, I can see why.  Sam Raimi doesn't do failure.  He's had a huge following since the 80's

You are welcome!

Predictions for next season?  The escaped gladiators choose Spartacus, Crixus and Oenomaus(Doctores) as their leaders, they seize gladiatorial and Roman weapons and armor, free some more slaves, raid and plunder the Romans until the Roman empire finally responds with their legions.

The fate of Spartacus is unknown.

"The body of Spartacus was not found. A large number of his men fled from the battle-field to the mountains and Crassus followed them thither. They divided themselves in four parts, and continued to fight until they all perished except 6000, who were captured and crucified along the whole road from Capua to Rome."

I'm holding out hope that the writers have enough sense to keep her around. Notice the very last scene; pile up of bodies?  She was able to move her hand. plus, she was stabbed in the belly and may not have been fatal.  it was a great ending!

Whitfield is not expected to return for a second season.  In June it was announced that Whitfield completely finished his treatment, had a clean bill of health and was expected to be back on the set of Spartacus: Blood and Sand by October.  However, in September it was announced that Whitfield's cancer had returned and he would not be returning for the second season of Spartacus.  Whitfield will make a brief appearance in the prequel mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, scheduled to premiere in January 2011.

Cast members and characters being reprised from the original series include Lucy Lawless as Lucretia, John Hannah as Batiatus, Peter Mensah as Oenomaus, and Manu Bennett as Crixus. Andy Whitfield will make a brief appearance as Spartacus.

This was by far my favorite TV series I've watched since the Wire.  I'd say it even surpassed the Wire for me.  Season one was awesome.  Spartacus and the guy who played him was great.  I haven't watched something in a long time that was a really guy oriented series.  Most other shit is geared toward fags, women or men who want to laugh.  I tried watching Eastbound and Down because this gay guy at my work was raving about.  Couldn't even watch the first epidsode.  Spartacus was even better than 300.

All I can find is "Whitfield will make a brief appearance in the prequel mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, scheduled to premiere in January 2011" from wiki
i thought it ended up not being cancer or something like that? i could just be remembering it wrong though

It went into remission but came back.  I was either Non or Hodgkin's lymphoma.  Don't remember which.  It's weid because that guy from Party of Five and Lost had the same thing.  So did the actor from Dexter I believe.

So you guys watching this new season of Blood and Sand...  It's way better than I expected.

It totally sucked that Gaia got killed by Tullius, she was fucking hot...  hopefully they're setting it up for a wicked murder of Tullius.

I could have done with a full season of the prequil, this is turning out to be pretty good.  Makes me think that they'll be able to pull off a third season with a new Spartacus.

have seen the first 2 but got food poisening and didnt get to watch the 3rd episode yet...

I like how they showed asher and the doctore and their stories

crixus isnt played by the same guy which is gay i think...

all in all though they have kept up with the story and action very well so far so i am ok with the character switches

is the black guys wife the same broad that is doing crixus in the 1st season?

Crixus is the same crixus.  And the wife of doctore isn't the same girl.  However Navia is in the show as the 2nd assisntat slave girl to doctores wife.

The same actor plays Crixus, he's just got longer hair and shit.  It's the same dude, just doing a kick ass job of playing the part of how he got to where he was at in the last season.

Sorry, late reply, I see several others have already said the same actor played Crixus.

they do have several homo scenes in it but it doesn't bug me personally.  That stuff happened back then, we just get more freaked about it now.  LOL @ last season when they showed that hermaphrodite in the pit, cock and all...

I agree but, it's not like there is much choice.  He really did pretty good considering what he had to do and even looks a little like Andy.  It's just awkward switching actors for the main character so I think it'll take a few episodes for this guy to grow on us.  I'm just glad they didn't bail on the show which could have easily happened.

http://xfinity.comcast.net/blogs/tv/2012/06/04/spartacus-ending-after-season-3/

The upcoming third season of Starz’s “Spartacus” will be its last, the network confirmed Monday.

The final run, which has been titled “Spartacus: War of the Damned,” will be comprised of 10 episodes that kick off in January.

“It was an extremely difficult and emotional decision for my partners and I,” series creator/executive producer Steven S. DeKnight said. “Yet, in the end, the story was best served by rolling all of the remaining action and drama of Spartacus’ journey into one stunningly epic season that will be extremely satisfying for everyone who’s been along for the ride.”

“Spartacus” stands tall as Starz’s first original scripted series. It became a hit when it debuted in January 2010, then survived the tragic loss of its original leading man, Andy Whitfield, who died of cancer last year at age 39. Liam McIntyre took over the title role in Season 2, “Spartacus: Vengeance,” which averaged 6 million viewers each week.
