My answer probably belongs in the religious forum, like half of the stuff posted in political on Islam.

I'm thinking about christians.  We all know there are dozens if not hundreds or even more divisions of christianity.  Anytime I see something crazy or wacked that some christian group is doing I'll post on it in religious and one answer seems to hold true to all situations.  The christians absolutely will not blame the religion but will blame the misguided sect.  Yet I've sat here for year after year and am expected to believe that the sins of one group of muslims is a reflection of the entire religion.  Is there a little hypocrisy there?  Seriously, we have been absolutely directed that what a few radical muslims do be a reflection of the entire religion and yet I have seen time and time again christians refuse to apply the same for themselves.

Now, IMO, Islam is freaking retarded and muhammad can fuck off, we would all be better off without it...  I'm just seeing a double standard here.

Also I'm sure it will be said that the crimes of muslim extremists are far more severe than any bitches that can be made about any christian sect today.  That is true.  But there is something to consider in stating this.  The west and christianity has advanced much faster in all aspects and there is no denying that.  The muslim world and the people that live there as a whole are at least a century behind and easlily more.  And that's in almost all aspects where WE have not directly advance them.  If you hold these things into serious account, then in fair judgement you must weigh the sins of muslims against where we were long ago.  And for anyone who's studied history, there's no doubt of our equal brutality only a short time ago in the big picture.

I have a 16th century original accounting, some 300 pages long recording the most extreme brutality between christians and others.  Some of the stuff I've read in there makes beheading look like a cake walk.  One of the accounts and apparently fairly common was to slit the gut of the wrongdoer, pin their intestine to a tree and force them to walk around the tree--I'd rather get it over and be beheaded lol...  Shit like that and way worse was happening not that long ago.

I'm not defending Islam, but I think this whole thing is in dire need of some perspective.  Islam absolutely has to go through some kind of reformation.  Many here say that this is impossible.  I'm sure christians would have said the same thing before theirs.  

Look where muslims where before the 9/11 shitstorm and look at where they are now?  I think as a whole there are more that are radicalized after 9/11...  Actually that's absolutely true and I've been saying that's exactly what would happen all along and mocked for it the entire time.  It's not a special prediction, anyone who's studied history and human behavior could have called the same thing and at times it makes me wonder if it's not intentional

First, I absolutely can use the term, "a few"  The total Muslim population in 2009 was somewhere around 1.6 billion according to the CIA.  If we were talking about way more than a few causing problems, we'd be in a real shitstorm wouldn't we?...  If you just look at the Muslims residing in America, it's even far more benign in ratio to the radical of that to the rest of the Muslim world.  When you're looking at this kind of population, yes, few is accurate when we're talking about the sort willing to go to extremes in the name of their religion.  With that population of Muslims it's only a tiny fraction causing problems.  I could calculate if based on your numbers if you want but I can easily see without calculation that it's a very tiny fraction of the whole.  If I can't call that a few, well lol...  

You speak of the "nature of men" and that's exactly what I'm talking about.  The only thing dividing us from some Muslim guy "in a cave" is Time and Knowledge.  The region/tradition where we've come from has absolutely advanced faster in those aspects, period.  The evil to do the things we're worried about is alive and well in all of us.

Thoughts after reading your post Hugo:

"A Few" I really don't think you can call it a few radical Muslims. Here's a good stat, in the last month there have been over 200 terrorist attacks in the name of Islam, in that same month there has been one terrorist attack in the name of religion in all other religions combined.

As for your remarks on history, I agree that it's important to look at history. It's important to have an understanding of the world around you, to look at the past to learn from mistakes, to see what worked and what didn't but as for the Muslim world being 100yrs behind us, technologically speaking, sure, this is true, no one can deny that but the nature of man, what's in mans heart, that doesn't change because of technology and a stronger economy, that only changes when the hearts of men are pierced with truth and when they're open to it.

As for "misguided sect's" sure, all religions and all groups of people for that matter have those who do some really weird stuff, there are fringes in every group, religious and non-religious, but I really don't think we can use the term "misguided sect" when it comes to Islam, we're not talking about isolated incidences or a small percentage of the Muslim world. We're not talking about some whacked out group that meets alone in solitary, we're talking about a massive number of the population and when you add in the number of Muslims who never actually strap on a bomb or pick up a gun, yet they support those that do, that number gets even bigger and those who don't act but support, they are just as guilty.

First, I absolutely can use the term, "a few"  The total Muslim population in 2009 was somewhere around 1.6 billion according to the CIA.  If we were talking about way more than a few causing problems, we'd be in a real shitstorm wouldn't we?...  If you just look at the Muslims residing in America, it's even far more benign in ratio to the radical of that to the rest of the Muslim world.  When you're looking at this kind of population, yes, few is accurate when we're talking about the sort willing to go to extremes in the name of their religion.  With that population of Muslims it's only a tiny fraction causing problems.  I could calculate if based on your numbers if you want but I can easily see without calculation that it's a very tiny fraction of the whole.  If I can't call that a few, well lol...  

You speak of the "nature of men" and that's exactly what I'm talking about.  The only thing dividing us from some Muslim guy "in a cave" is Time and Knowledge.  The region/tradition where we've come from has absolutely advanced faster in those aspects, period.  The evil to do the things we're worried about is alive and well in all of us.

sheeeit, there have been 200 attacks in my city in the name of drugs in the last month.  Dozens of attacks in the name of high school football allegiances.  A few dozen beatdowns in the name of boy-girl relationships.  Those religious incidents happen overseas - the only attacks on my soil have "LIHOP" written all over it.

No way has there been 200 attacks your city involving drugs in that time span....but I'm sure you just threw the number out to make a point.  The problem is, if nobody is concerned about how these mongrels conduct themselves until they are at our front door, it will most likely be too late.

I think that is a great observation.  Think of the avg daily life we enjoy vs what the endure?  The only problem is they don't see past the limits of what islam sets on them.

The limits I was referring to was in the context of bettering their lives.  And ALL religions have "limits" set on them, its just that all but ONE choose to live in relative harmony around the world, while the ONE religion chooses to blow up people on a DAILY basis....

I just love revisionist history. It makes so warm inside. I get a tingle up my leg. I just love when people like Hugo bring up Christianity 500 years ago while conveniently ignoring that Muslims were just as bad, if not worse, than the Christians he's chastising. The only difference is that the Christian world moved on while the Muslims have stayed the same.

I think the reason Islam in America so far has not been as much a problem as it is in Europe is because it is contained for the most part.

However, this is a political idealogy as much as a religious one and needs to be treated as such.  I have no problem allowing muslims the same religious freedoms as others, but when it comes to the islamic political agenda, screw that crap, they can freaking leave if they don't like it. 

It seems a lot of muslims here accept that condition.
