The scene in The Battle of the Bulge where the German tankers sing the Panzerlied is one of the greatest scenes in movie history. It gives me chills every time I see it. The US should have never warred with Germany.

The Great Escape - technically inaccurate but really captures the spirit of a time when the west could actually be proud of having a spine.

Fan of Dam Busters - unlikely it'll ever be re-made accurately given the actual radio code word for a successful bombing run...

Since nobody has mentioned it - 'Ice cold in Alex' - Anthony Quayle's accent is inconsistent but it's a solid film.

Der Untergang (Downfall in English) - chilling performance by Bruno Ganz as Hitler in his final days in Berlin. Probably more people world wide know of it, or have seen some of it due to a particular scene where he goes on a big rant having become an internet meme with various subtitle replacements for comedic effect.

Tora Tora Tora - epic production and very well handled by those who filmed both sides

The 1993 German film 'Stalingrad' (there's a couple of russian films of the same name I haven't seen)

Idi i smotri (Come and see) - Has to be considered something akin to a Russian ww2 film that reminds one of Apocalypse Now - not perfect but really out there.

Vic Morrow...using every back lot set imaginable?...One I remember especially because without any fan fare or drawing attention to it, they accurately portrayed crimping a fuse into a blasting cap for a stick of dynamite.

"Rat Patrol was popular because of "Dune Buggies" in southern California...
