Boy, am I sad to read about this. Don was a hero of mine. I had the chance to meet him when I was travelling the US years ago and bumped into him in a McDonald's. My English wasn't perfect then and I was in traditional dress, but it didn't phase him one bit.
I introduced myself and told him how much of a fan I was. He seemed genuinely happy and asked about my life. When we reached the counter, he insisted on buying me lunch and even invited me to sit with him. I didn't want to be rude or act like one of those overfamiliar fans but I couldn't refuse.
We talked for a good half hour about weightlifting, family, my diet plan. Really, he was like an encyclopedia with this stuff, and he stressed how important it was for me to make time for my wives and kids even with all the training I was doing.
Now, this next part I'm ashamed about. When he got up to go take a piss before leaving, something really strange came over me. I lifted the lid off his Coke and spat a massive greener into it then put the lid back on. Really, it was a fucking disgusting thing to do and I've no explanation for it. I can only apologize. Anyway, RIP to a true legend of the sport.
