BY MALIA ZIMMERMAN - KAILUA, OAHU - The U.S. Secret Service has arrived, street barricades are in place, and the U.S. Coast Guard has stationed itself in the waters surrounding Kailua, Oahu. That is a sure sign President Barack Obama’s security team is preparing for the first family to arrive in the small beachside community as early as Friday night for what is expected to be a 17-day vacation.

The President and his family are traveling separately to Hawaii because he wants resolve the payroll tax cut issue before leaving Washington – and his wife does not want to wait.

But the advanced trip and the cost that comes with it – as much as $100,000 (flight and security) – adds to an already expensive vacation for the taxpayers.

Hawaii Reporter research shows the total cost for the President’s visit for taxpayers far exceeded $1.5 million in 2010 – but is even more costly this year because he extended his vacation by three days and the cost for Air Force One travel has jumped since last assessed in 2000. In addition, Hawaii Reporter was able to obtain more specifics about the executive expenditures.

The total cost (based on what is known) for the 17-day vacation roundtrip vacation to Hawaii for the President, his family and staff has climbed to more than $4 million. Here's why.
TRAVEL: $3,651,626

The biggest expense is President Barack Obama’s round trip flight to Hawaii via Air Force One, a cost the GAO office estimated at $1 million in the year 2000. Contacted today, the GAO confirmed there is no report the independent office affiliated with Congress has prepared since 2000 to operate Air Force One and Air Force Two.

However, the U.S. Air Force provides the most current numbers of $181,757 per flight hour. Travel time for Air Force One direct from Washington D.C. to Hawaii is about 9 hours or $1,635,813 each way for a total of $3,271,622 for the round trip to Hawaii and back.

The cost for USAF C-17 cargo aircraft that transports the Presidential limos, helicopters and other support equipment is not available to the public. However, the flight time between Andrews Air Force Base and Hawaii is at about 20 hours roundtrip, with estimated operating cost of $7,000 per hour (GAO report) for a total of $140,000 per roundtrip. The United States Marine Corps provides a presidential helicopter, along with pilots and support crews for the test flights, which travel on another C-17 flight at $140,000 for a total of $280,000.

Mrs. Obama’s early flight to Hawaii costs about $63,000 (White House Dossier), but add security and personnel for a total of about $100,000.

HOUSING: $151,200

Kailua Beach
The President and his family pay for their own beachfront rental (they are not staying in the Winter White House this year but rather a house on the same street further to the ocean point).

The Kailua rentals are fronted by the ocean and backed by a canal. So, the taxpayers must cover the costs for housing U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Coast Guard and Navy Seals in beach front and canal front homes in Kailua.

That costs about $1,200 a day ($200 allocated per bedroom per day). Since security arrives one day early, homes are rented for 18 days.

That is about $21,600 per home for approximately 7 houses rented at a total cost of $151,200 for security to stay nearby.

HOTEL: $72,216

Moana Surfrider Resort
The President’s staff and White House Press Corps stay at one of Hawaii’s oldest and most elegant hotels, the Moana Surfrider. Hawaii Reporter confirmed they are again staying there this year. Besides its stunningly beautiful view of Waikiki, and its traditional architecture, it is one of the most pricey hotels in the state.

Government rates are $177 per night, but that only is available during certain times a year.

Rooms typically start at $250 but can cost on average as much as $450 a night, and are even higher during the holidays.  A hotel spokesperson did not return calls to confirm the rate the White House received.

View of Waikiki Beach from the Moana Surfrider Hotel
A conservative estimate with rooms at the government rate of $177 per day (excluding a 9.25 percent Transient Accommodation Tax and a 4.712 percent General Excise Tax on each bill, meals, internet charges and other charges) means the taxpayers are covering more than $72,216 in hotel bills for an estimated 24 staff.

LOCAL TAXPAYER COSTS: $260,000

Local police over time for the president’s visit has historically cost Oahu taxpayers $250,000 but may be more expensive this year with the extended vacation.

The city ambulance the accompanies the president 24 hours a day through his entire visit is $10,000, according to city spokeswoman Louise Kim McCoy.

UNKNOWN COSTS

There are several costs the White House annually refuses to release, citing security.

■For example, the president’s security usually rents an entire floor of an office building in Kailua on the canal during the president’s stay.
■There are security upgrades and additional phone lines to several private homes where Obama and friends are staying. That includes bullet proof glass installed, home security systems disabled, new security measures put into place and additional phone lines added.
■There is the cost for car rentals and fuel for White House staff staying at Moana Hotel.
■And there are additional travel costs Secret Service and White House staff traveling ahead of the President.
The total cost (based on what is known) for a 17-day round trip vacation to Hawaii for the President and his family and staff and security is an estimated $4,135,038.
Hawaii Reporter annually has requested details on the cost of the President’s trip, but the White House will not release any figures, citing security concerns. A spokesperson has maintained the costs are "in line" with other presidential vacations.

Hawaii Reporter has sought to determine the cost of vacations for the current president and last two presidents but the Government Accountability Office was able to provide those costs and referred Hawaii Reporter back to the White House spokesperson.

Absolutely disgusting.

Yeah seriously.  That's why this thread is significant.  I wonder what Michelle said about it?

Presidents have historically never taken vacations.

I even bet Newt, batshit crazy Bachman, and that retard Perry will all promise no vacations if elected along with addressing illegal immigration.

Seriously - you obama voters are the most clueless fucking idiots I think I have ever encountered.

But its all good - just like you clowns were so utterly clueless and out of touch leading up to the 2010 mid terms, when this disgraceful grifter and his thug of a wife get sent packing back to Kenya - we can then go over the reasons why.

Again  - to the cry baby who screams moral superiority and the high road - do you think it is a coincidence that both parties refuse to work with obama any more on anything?   He has lost all credibility on every issue and has set trhe narrative of being a hypocritical out of touch liar who says one thing and does the opposite.

2.  Says Eric Holder is doing a good job and cracking down on cartels - but we find out Thugbama is actually arming the cartels and laundering their cash all while cracking down on legal dispenseries.   ZERO CREDIBILITY ON CRACKING DOWN ON DRUG ISSUES OR CARTELS.

3.  Says all parties have to sacrifice  - yet he never sacrifices anything at all and spits in the face of the taxapayer when we are a 15 Trillion in the hole.    - ZERO CREDIBILITY ON SPENDING AND USE OF TAX DOLLARS

4.   Says he is for jobs yet shuts down a shovel ready bi-partisan project Canada has been begging for for 3 years.  ZERO CREDIBILITY ON JOBS

5.  Said obamaCare was going to reduce premiums by 2500 a year and was against the mandate - now we find out Obnamacare is spiking premiuims and is making matters worse  -ZERO CREDIBILITY ON HEALTH CARE

6.  Says the rich should pay more taxes - yet he has geithner as TS, Corzine as his top bundler, and the CEO of GE as his supposed jobs advisor - ZERO CREDIBILITY

7.  Says he wants to change the tone of political dialogue - yet calls people bitter clingers, hostage takers, traitors, etc.  - ZERO CREDIBILITY

Actually - from what i read - he doesnt do much but hang out , drink, watch ESPN, and never works past 4:30

If he needs to take such long vacations - he should either:

1.  Resign or

2.  Not run for a second term

Remind me again why we have no budget?   So his vacations are more important than even passing a budget and you are perfectly ok with that?  Is that what you are saying?

With thousands of families struggling to raise funds for Christmas, you would think the Obamas might manage a little thriftiness.

But last night, Michelle Obama and her two daughters flew to Hawaii for a 17-day holiday - days before the president joins them.

The separate flights will incur costs of more than $100,000 to the taxpayer.

Vacation: The President was scheduled to begin his trip on December 17 - but his family will leave without him. Last year's trip to Hawaii, pictured, was also delayed

Obama has vowed to stay in Washington until Congress passes an extension of the payroll tax cut and will join his family before Christmas.

By not waiting for Congress to reach a decision before jetting off together, the family is inflicting eye-watering costs on the taxpayer.

More...Congress set to push through Obama tax cut extension to give families earning $50,000 a year an extra $1,000

From the First Family to yours: Obamas release their first Christmas card in two years

When Michelle flew to Hawaii alone last year, it cost a staggering $63,000 - without security or staff costs - according to White House Dossier website.
Michelle, 13-year-old Malia and 10-year-old Sasha will leave Washington Friday after giving toys to the Marines Corps’ Toys for Tots programme.

Time apart: Michelle Obama and her daughters, Sasha (right) and Malia, pictured on the family's Christmas card, will have their flights paid for by the taxpayer

Barack Obama previously said to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: 'Michelle and the girls are going to have a great time in Hawaii. They don't need me there.'
The president's family covers the cost of a private beach front residence in Kailua, Oahu, for the vacation - a ‘Winter White House’ that costs up to $3,500 a day, or $75,000 a month.
But the local and federal taxpayers help pay the bill for travel and security.
Last year the trip cost more than $1 million, according to the Hawaii Reporter.
The move also puts the president at odds with one of his own executive orders that instructed agencies to avoid unnecessary flights, said the site.
Republicans, including presidential candidate Mitt Romney, have criticised Mr Obama's holiday plans, which were originally scheduled to begin on December 17 for 17 days.
Commitment: Obama will miss the start of the annual holiday to his birthplace in order to fix the budget crisis. It is unknown when he will be able to join the family

Luxury: The family will travel by Air Force One, pictured, which costs $180,000 per hour - or around $1,000,000 for a return trip from Washington to Hawaii
'I just think it's time to have a president whose idea of being 'hands on' doesn't mean getting a better grip on the golf club,' Mr Romney told voters in Iowa.
'I just think it's time to have a president whose idea of being 'hands on' doesn't mean getting a better grip on the golf club'Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney
Last year's holiday was similarly delayed, but the Obamas added a few extra days to the end to make up for the inconvenience.
The president, who was raised in Hawaii until he was six, previously announced there were no public events scheduled for the trip.

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin said the president didn't want lawmakers to leave town without reaching an agreement on the extension.
'What the president made clear was that the House would leave at its peril, its political peril, and they will face the embarrassment of trying to explain why they're taking the holiday off while working families across America are going to see their taxes increase,' he said, according to Politico.
A job to do: Speaking in Washington on Thursday, President Obama proposed new minimum wage and overtime protections for in-home care workers

President Obama told lawmakers this week they could not leave for family trips until decisions have been reached.
'Congress should not and cannot go on vacation before they have made sure that working families aren't seeing their taxes go up by a thousand dollars,' he said.
A White House official said that the president and the Republicans could 'all spend Christmas here together' if Congress didn't act.
It comes following the President's proposals on Thursday to establish minimum wage and overtime pay for in home care workers.
Obama, speaking at the White House, said the workers are often paid less than the minimum wage, even when working 70 hours a week.
'That’s just wrong,' he said. 'They deserve to be treated fairly. They deserve to be paid fairly for a service that many older Americans couldn’t live without.'
FIRST LADY OF LUXURY TRAVEL: THE COSTLY TRIPS
SPAIN: AUGUST 2010

Michelle Obama and 40 of her friends paid for personal expenses, such as hotels and meals themselves.
But the U.S. taxpayer would have paid for the 68-strong security detail, personal staff and use of presidential jet Air Force Two.
Payment for the secret service team ran at around $281 each - nearly $98,000 for the duration of the summer break.

Use of Air Force Two comes in at $149,900 for the round trip, not including time on the ground.

Mrs Obama's personal staff, of which there were an unknown number, should also be taken into account.

HAWAII: DECEMBER 2010

According to the Hawaii Reporter, the bill for the trip included:

$63,000 on an early flight bringing Mrs Obama and the children to Hawaii ahead of the President
$1,000,000 on Mr Obama’s return trip from Washington on Air Force One
$16,000 to rent nearby homes for Secret Service and Navy Seals
$134,000 for 24 White House staff to stay at the Moana Hotel
$251,000 in police overtime
$10,000 for an ambulance to be on hand at all times

SKI TRIP TO VAIL: FEBRUARY 2011

Michelle Obama and her daughters stayed at the Sebastian hotel on Vail Mountain, where rooms cost more than $2,400 for multi-bedroom suites.
The family appear to have flown there on Air Force Two.
They were escorted to the resort by about a dozen vehicles, including 15 state and local law enforcement officers.
MARTHA'S VINEYARD: AUGUST 2011

The Blue Heron Farm estate, where the Obama family stayed, rents for about $50,000 a week.
Michelle, Sasha and Malia Obama flew to the estate just hours before the president to make the most of the holiday - again, incurring extra flight costs.

According to U.S. News and World Report, the Coast Guard was required to keep ships floating near the property. The presidential helicopter and jet remain at the ready and security agents will be on 24-hour duty.

Exactly - Obama is more of the same bullshit we are all sick to death of.

^^^ This is why Obama's multimillion dollar vacation in paradise, while the economy is in shambles, is a legitimate story.  He was supposed to be different.  He's not.  He's an opportunist, taking advantage of his office to vacation on one of the nicest beaches on the planet (without exaggeration).

How much would it cost to vacation in his real home town of Chicago?

Also, I'd like to know how many times he and his family have vacationed on Kailua beach before he was elected president.  I bet the answer is zero.  (Not sure, but that's my guess.)

So what?  Presidents are only supposed to take vacations in their hometowns?  All presidents never took vacations?  All presidents were supposed to be different or the same?  Is there a vacation police?

What difference does any of it make?  Presidents take vacations.  Its another stupid petty charge.

Don't really have much more to add other what I already stated about why this is a legitimate issue.

Nobody said he cannot vacation.  He can do whatever the heck he wants, including spending $4 million of our money to vacation on the beach.  More power to him.  November 2012 cannot come soon enough.

It's not hate.  At least not for me.  I don't hate Obama.  I think he's a lousy president.  I think he was dishonest about "hope and change."  This comparatively minor issue is an example of his dishonesty about being different.

How in the world is someone who is struggling to make ends meet, like so many Americans are during this period, supposed to relate to this man?  I could never see myself doing this if my business was struggling.  It really is like a big "F You" to the have nots.  He needs to lead by example and tighten his belt like the rest of the country.

But he won't do that, because he doesn't give a rip about the average American, despite his lip service to the contrary.

Obama issues directive telling government employees to cut down on the travel. Obama then sends Michelle and kids on a separate plane to Hawaii. Obama then spends over $4 million on 17-day vacation. Kailua Beach
The President and his family pay for their own beachfront rental (they are not staying in the Winter White House this year but rather a house on the same street further to the ocean point).

When did he ever promise not to take his family back to his chldhood home for a vacation?

Clinton used to take his family to Martha's Vineyard.  I wonder how many times he did that before he was POTUS

Another Vacation For Obama?
The Silent Majority ^ | 12-07-11 | J.D. Longstreet
Posted on December 7, 2011 10:09:07 AM EST by Lexluthor69

It seems our over-worked President is off on another vacation … this time for over two weeks – seventeen days, to be exact. It seems only yesterday he was on vacation in Massachusetts. Wait! That WAS earlier this year, but it was only eleven days at Martha’s Vineyard.

One would have to surmise that ruining a country is stressful for Obama. It must be all his leading from behind that does it.

Why do we not hear the cries “Imperial Presidency” from the Mainstream Media these days? Two reasons: Obama is not a republican – and — Obama is a socialist democrat — as is the bulk of the Mainstream Media.

Does Obama not realize there is a recession on? The man must be completely tone-deaf to the cries of the average American today. I mean, you would think a person running for President, especially a candidate who swears he is “fighting” for the middle class would be a tad more circumspect when it comes to grandiose vacations and such, but not Obama. You would think that candidate would also be circumspect about spending the taxpayer’s dollars when the country is broke, but again, not Obama.

Its as if the rules don’t apply to Obama. In his arrogance he comes across as being above all that. I mean, act with some class, for heaven’s sake!

People are hurting out here in fly-over country but our President is living it up at great expense to US taxpayers, the very same ones worried over how they are going to pay the rent, put groceries on the table, make the payments on their house or car, and yes – how they are going to afford gifts for their children this Christmas. NOT our illustrious President, however.

Obama leaves Washington for delayed Hawaii vacation
By Associated Press
POSTED: 07:05 a.m. HST, Dec 23, 2011
LAST UPDATED: 09:33 a.m. HST, Dec 23, 2011

WASHINGTON >> Bidding "aloha" to reporters in the White House briefing room, President Barack Obama took off for Hawaii today for a delayed Christmas vacation.

He is scheduled to arrive at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam sometime this evening. There could be traffic delays when the president's motorcade travels to his Kailua vacation home.

The White House announced the president’s departure plans shortly after the House and the Senate signed off on a deal to extend payroll tax cuts after House Republicans reversed course and dropped their opposition.

The Senate had already agreed to the two-month deal, but the House GOP refused to budge until Thursday evening.

The president signed the tax extention bill after it passed Congress this morning.

With Washington deadlocked, Obama delayed his annual December trip to Honolulu area, where he was born and mostly raised. He had planned to leave Washington on Dec. 17.

The president’s wife and daughters have been in Hawaii since late last week. The Obamas plan to return to Washington in early January.

HONOLULU – It may have been a week later than he had hoped, but US President Barack Obama finally hit the links in Hawaii Saturday on his first full day of vacation.

Obama touched down in the Aloha State Friday night after signing a bill in Washington extending the payroll tax cut for two months.

The president had delayed his departure for Hawaii amid the tax cut stalemate, with his wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha leaving as planned on Dec. 17.

After spending a quiet Christmas morning with his family, President Barack Obama attended church services Sunday at a Marine base near his rented Hawaiian vacation home.

The Obamas made the short drive from their multimillion-dollar Kailua Beach house to the chapel at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. The president dressed casually in dark khaki pants and a short-sleeve blue shirt, and his wife and daughters donned sundresses for Christmas services on a bright and breezy day.

The president and his family also went to church on base on Christmas during his vacation last year.

The Obamas have been spending the holiday with a small group of friends and family, including the president’s sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, who lives in Hawaii with her family.

On Christmas Eve, the president made phone calls to 10 service members stationed around the world, two from each branch of the military. The White House said he thanked them for their service and the sacrifice of being away from their families at the holidays.

The White House said the president was also monitoring developments in Nigeria and the administration offered its condolences to the Nigerian people, especially the families of the at least 39 people killed Sunday.

The majority died on the steps of a Catholic church after celebrating Mass, part of an apparently coordinated assault by a radical Muslim sect.

The White House says U.S. officials have been in contact with their counterparts in Nigeria and pledged to assist them in bringing those responsible to justice.

Obama has kept a low profile since arriving in Hawaii on Friday evening to start a vacation delayed by the stalemate in Washington over extending payroll tax cuts. He has no public events planned, and his only outings are expected to be to the golf course or to take his daughters for shave ice, a Hawaiian snow cone.

Winston Churchill that had occupied a cherished spot in President Bush's Oval Office. Intended as a symbol of transatlantic solidarity, the bust was a loaner from former British prime minister Tony Blair following the September 11 attacks. A bust of Abraham Lincoln—Obama's historical hero—now sits in its place. A White House spokesperson says the Churchill bust was removed before Obama's inauguration as part of the usual changeover operations, adding that every president puts his own stamp on the Oval Office.

Huckabee: "The bust of Winston Churchill, a great insult to the British. But then if you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather."

Try substituting Indonesia into those comments and it makes little sense.

Indonesia used to be a Dutch colony, known as the Dutch East Indies. The British controlled Malaysia, which is kind of close to Indonesia, but the Mau Mau uprising took place in Kenya in the 1950s. Churchill was the British prime minister when the uprising erupted in 1952. Obama's grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, was reportedly detained during the conflict, though that is not confirmed. (See third update below.)

In his memoir "Dreams from my Father," Obama wrote that he did not visit Kenya until he was in his 20s. Obama barely knew his father, who abandoned Obama's mother shortly after he was born and played almost no role in Obama's upbringing.

The question of the Winston Churchill bust is a bit murkier.

Huckabee is right that the British press went a little nuts over this issue. But the bust was on loan from the British to President George W. Bush and the White House said it was due to be returned before Obama even arrived at the White House. Still, the British embassy said they would extend the loan if Obama wished. But Obama replaced the bust with one of Abraham Lincoln--a Republican!--and now the Churchill bust resides at the residence of the British ambassador. Obama later tried make amends, praising Churchill at a news conference and making a point of noting he kept a biography of Churchill on display.

But in any case Churchill had nothing to do with Indonesia, where Obama lived for five years, until he was 10.

So Huckabee's whole statement kind of falls apart, especially when Kenya is replaced by Indonesia. What was he really thinking?

We asked a Huckabee spokesman for an explanation and will post an answer if we get one.

Update: Huckabee's spokesman points out that the governor discusses the Winston Churchill incident on page 183 in his new book, "A Simple Government." Huckabee writes that "our wartime partnership with Winston Churchill and the British people is part of our story; the Mau Mau rebellion is not." He accuses Obama of emphasizing "his story rather than history." We are still waiting for a fuller explanation.

Further update, 4:30 PM: Huckabee appeared on Bryan Fischer's radio show Wednesday and discussed the incident further, noting that, regarding the return of the Churchill bust, he merely quoted the outrage of a British newspaper in his book. "I do think he [Obama] has a different world view and I think it is, in part, molded out of a very different experience," Huckabee said. "Most of us grew up going to Boy Scout meetings and, you know, our communities were filled with Rotary Clubs, not madrassas."

The idea that Obama attended a madrassa had been debunked by original Fact Checker Michael Dobbs (it was a Catholic school.) But the notion that Obama is anti-colonial--and that this is bad--is also a little strange. After all, one of the biggest foes of Winston Churchill's efforts to hold onto British colonies was none other than President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Third update, March 3: Justin Elliott at Salon has an interesting interview with an historian that adds context to questions concerning the Mau Mau uprising.

The statue wasn't a gift, it was on loan from the British government to President Bush meaning that he was making payments to keep the statue there until January 2009.  Its now Obama's office and he can redecorate the place if he wants to and I'm pretty sure that he didn't wish to pay to keep some statue there.

Have some fucking common sense and quite frankly, the idea of him returning it because of something that happenned almost a 100 years ago is just plain stupid. ::)  The bust was removed and replaced with a bust of Abraham Lincoln...an AMERICAN HERO AND PRESIDENT.

President Barack Obama and his family spent a warm and sunny afternoon at one of the most popular snorkeling spots on the island of Oahu, where they released four green sea turtles into the water.

The Obamas arrived at Hanauma Bay on Tuesday after a scenic, 40-minute drive from their multimillion-dollar rented vacation home on Kailua Beach. During their two hours at the bay, the Obamas released four green sea turtles raised in captivity into the clear blue water.

Hanauma Bay is a favorite destination for the Obamas during their annual Christmas trips to Hawaii. The first family always goes to the popular spot on Tuesdays, when it is closed to the public for maintenance.

Obamas enjoy multi-course tasting menu By Jonathan Easley - 12/29/11 07:35 AM ET

President Obama enjoyed a five-to-seven course tasting menu Wednesday night at a dinner in Honolulu with first lady Michelle Obama and 10 friends.

The dinner at Alan Wong's restaurant in Honolulu comes as the president enjoys his annual holiday break in Hawaii, a vacation nearly cut short by the fight over taxes with Republicans in Washington.

The Obama's are regulars at Wong's restaurant—both gave head chef Wong a hug upon entering before being taken to their “traditional table,” which Wong describes as the “feng shui” seat in the house, according to the pool reports.

The Obamas were part of a group of ten, which included the president’s sister, and the party ordered off a special tasting menu – a multi-course meal designed specifically by the chef.

“The Obama party had a special 5-course tasting menu for $75 a person, $105 per person with wine pairings for each course," according to the pool report. "Highlights include "Sassey Salad" and bacon wrapped pork loin,” according to CNN’s Peter Morris, who the pool report said was at the restaurant when the president arrived.

Other diners generally didn't notice the president's arrival, the pool report said.

The Obamas spent about three hours at the restaurant before returning to their rental at around 11 p.m.

Before the dinner, Obama hit the links, spending nearly seven hours at the Ko’olau golf club with Mike Ramos, Greg Orme and long-time friend Robert Titcomb, who earlier this year plead no contest to soliciting a prostitute in Honolulu.

Romney braves rain, mocks Obama’s Hawaii vacation
By Stephen Dinan
-

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/dec/30/romney-braves-rain-mocks-obama-hawaii-vacation

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Standing on a stage in a chilly, wet field in Iowa, Mitt Romney on Friday mocked President Obama for being on vacation in Hawaii.

“We’re out in the cold and the rain and the wind because we care about America. He just finished his 90th round of golf,” Mr. Romney told the crowd of hundreds that came despite the temperature which, with the windchill factored in, felt like 24 degrees.

Even as the rest of the Republican presidential field takes aim at each other, Mr. Romney, a former one-term governor of Massachusetts, has been mostly focused on the president — and he on Mr. Romney.

Several protesters tried to interrupt the rally by chanting “Why are you hiding your tax forms?” The Democratic National Committee has been demanding Mr. Romney release those forms — something not required by law, but which many presidential candidates do end up doing. All candidates are required to file financial disclosures, which give voters a general sense of a candidate’s wealth.

Mr. Romney was campaigning with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who braved the weather wearing only a suit jacket.

Mr. Christie said he would be closely watching the results from Tuesday’s caucuses: “You people disappoint me on Tuesday, you don’t do what you’re supposed to do on Tuesday for Mitt Romney, I will be back, Jersey-style, people. I will be back,” he joked.

The caucuses are less than a week away but Mr. Romney was scheduled to fly from Iowa to New Hampshire Friday afternoon, where he had campaign events scheduled later that day and again Saturday morning before returning to Iowa.

He was leaving Mr. Christie in Iowa to campaign in his stead, and the first-term New Jersey governor had stops scheduled in Cedar Rapids and Dubuque.

On a $4M Vacation, Michelle Seeks $3 From Backers
by Keith Koffler on December 30, 2011, 1:21 pm

Speaking from her paradisical $4 million Hawaii vacation, Mrs. Obama wants to know: Do any of President Obama’s supporters have $3 to spare for his reelection?

This is approximately like coming upon Warren Buffett on a street corner with a McDonald’s cup asking if he can have 15 cents.

Michelle’s request was part of an email sent to the Obama 2012 list today.

Over the next 11 months we’ve got an organization to grow, voters to register, and people to get fired up.

I hope you’ll close out this year by donating $3 or more now to help make sure we’re ready for the next one . . .

Thank you so much, and happy new year,

Michelle

The obscene juxtaposition of the first lady on a $4 million vacation while asking what would have to be middle to low income earners for three bucks – who else would they be targeting with such an appeal? – is yet another example of lack of perspective the Obamas seem to be gaining while in power.

Mrs. Obama takes extravagant vacations to Spain and southern Africa. The president golfs obsessively and is currently dining at Honolulu’s ritziest restaurants. All while asking their fellow Americans to “sacrifice” during this time of not plenty.

And they blow $4 million – mostly taxpayers’ money – on a vacation, while wondering if the small people can come up with $3.

What about renting a beach house next year at the Jersey shore? I mean, if we’re all going to sacrifice.

Aloha Obamas! First Family's Vacation Comes to an End, but Taxpayers Left with Hefty Bill
Hawaii Reporter ^ | 01/02/2012 | MALIA ZIMMERMAN

KAILUA, HAWAII - President Barack Obama and his family and friends left Oahu on January 2, 2012, after a 17-day, notably low key vacation.

While the Obamas were in the islands, they visited the grave of Stanley Dunham, President Obama's grandfather, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and an exhibit at the East West Center that featured work of Stanley Ann Dunham, the president's deceased mother.

The family also stopped at the President's favorite Kailua shave ice store, Island Snow, and the President played golf with his friends at Mid Pacific Country Club in Kailua and at Ko'olau Golf Course, one of the world's most challenging courses, in Kaneohe.

The President and Michelle Obama also visited with US troops stationed in Hawaii on Christmas Day at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, located just two minutes away from their multi-million dollar Kailua beachfront home rental.

The President was criticized last month for skipping the Pearl Harbor 70th anniversary events remembering the 2,400 Americans who died during the December 7, 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor - several of the Pearl Harbor survivors gathered at Pearl Harbor for one last time - but the President and his wife Michelle took time out to lay a wreath there three days ago.

Steffan Tubbs, a talk show host in Denver, Colorado and a board member with the Greatest Generation Foundation who was in Honolulu for the December 7 tribute, earlier criticized the President in Hawaii Reporter noting: "There were thousands of people in attendance at the Pearl Harbor remembrance, yet President Barack Obama – born just a few miles from the USS Arizona memorial – was not only a no-show, but did not bother to send a written or videotaped greeting thanks to these men," Tubbs said. He also noted Interior Secretary Ken Salazar was a no show, even though his bio and picture were listed in the program and he was scheduled to deliver remarks in person.

Parts of Kailua, a laid back beach front community on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, has been under lock down since the Obamas arrived. U.S. Coast Guard boats have guarded the canal and ocean front surrounding the Kailuana Place home and residents on Kailuana Place and Kailuana Loop have had to endure extensive Secret Service searches for themselves and pre-registered guests just to get to their homes.

While many Hawaii residents were pleased the Obamas chose to vacation here - the President is still popular in the state where he lived through high school - their time in the islands came with a steep price for taxpayers.

The total cost (based on what is known) for the 17-day vacation roundtrip vacation to Hawaii for the President, his family, security and staff climbed to more than $4 million. Hawaii Reporter research shows the total cost for the President’s visit for taxpayers far exceeded $1.5 million in 2010 – but was even more costly this year because the family extended their vacation by three days and the cost for Air Force One travel has jumped since last assessed in 2000.

TRAVEL: $3,629,622

■The biggest expense is President Barack Obama’s round trip flight to Hawaii via Air Force One, a cost the GAO office estimated at $1 million in the year 2000. ■The cost for USAF C-17 cargo aircraft that transports the Presidential limos, helicopters and other support equipment to Hawaii was not made available. However, the flight time between Andrews Air Force Base and Hawaii is at about 21.5 hours roundtrip, with estimated operating cost of $12,000 per hour. (Source: GAO report, updated by C-17 crew member). The United States Marine Corps provides a presidential helicopter, along with pilots and support crews for the test flights, which travel on another C-17 flight. That is $258,000, not including costs for the 4 to 6 member crew's per diem and hotel. ■Mrs. Obama’s early flight to Hawaii costs about $63,000 (White House Dossier), but add security and personnel for a total of about $100,000. HOUSING: $151,200

■The President and his family pay for their own beachfront rental (they are not staying in the Winter White House this year but rather a house on the same street further to the ocean point). ■The Kailua rentals are fronted by the ocean and backed by a canal.

■The President’s staff and White House Press Corps stay at one of Hawaii’s oldest and most elegant hotels, the Moana Surfrider. Hawaii Reporter confirmed they stayed there this year as well. Hotel spokeswoman Marsha Weinert said she could "neither confirm nor deny" the president's staff is staying there. A conservative estimate with rooms at the government rate of $177 per day (excluding a 9.25 percent Transient Accommodation Tax and a 4.712 percent General Excise Tax on each bill, meals, internet charges and other charges) means the taxpayers are covering more than$72,216 in hotel bills for an estimated 24 staff. LOCAL TAXPAYER COSTS: $260,000

■Local police over time for the president’s visit has historically cost Oahu taxpayers $250,000 but may be more expensive this year with the extended vacation. ■The city ambulance the accompanies the president 24 hours a day through his entire visit is $10,000, according to city spokeswoman Louise Kim McCoy. ■City officials have not yet totaled the bill for local taxpayers for police enforcement and ambulance service for this trip. UNKNOWN COSTS

There are several costs the White House annually refuses to release, citing security. For example:

■The president’s security usually rents an entire floor of an office building in Kailua on the canal during the president’s stay. The total cost (based on what is known) for a 17-day round trip vacation to Hawaii for the President and his family and staff and security is an estimated $4,113,038.

Hawaii Reporter has sought to determine the cost of vacations for the current president and last two presidents but the Government Accountability Office was able to provide those costs and referred Hawaii Reporter back to the White House spokesperson. A spokesperson for the White House said the cost is "in line" with other presidents.

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s has been vacationing at a resort on another island, Hawaii Island.

Pelosi spent at least the last three holiday vacations in Kona at the same hotel, The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.

While she is here, Pelosi, like the Obamas, was escorted by secret service and local police.

Over the last two years, Hawaii county taxpayers paid more than $34,000 for local police to escort Pelosi.

Oahu taxpayers paid for local police overtime for the president’s security at a cost of about $250,000 a year.

Police on Oahu and Hawaii Island have not yet released the cost for security and overtime.

Residents Alerted to Obamas' Hawaiian Holiday Plans

BY MALIA ZIMMERMAN - KAILUA, OAHU - Residents living near the beachfront homes where President Barack Obama and First Family vacation with their friends every year since 2008 were alerted on Monday to some specifics of the Obamas' holiday vacation plans.

The report delivered to residents living along the ocean and canal that surrounds the multi-million dollar homes at Kailuana Place where the President stays, informed  them of restrictions that will be implemented for 20 days beginning December 17 and running through January 6.

In a matter of weeks, Kailua residents will see the familiar street barricades fronted by U.S. Secret Service agents and Navy Seals and the U.S. Coast Guard stationed in canal and ocean waters.

The President, who spent some of his childhood years in Hawaii, brings his wife, two daughters, Sasha and Malia, with dog Bo in tow, each holiday season. They settle into the small town community known for its spectacular sparkling beaches, warm turquoise ocean, rolling surf, country shops and restaurants and friendly people.

The homes where they stay are just a two-minute drive from Kaneohe Bay and the Marine Corps Base Hawaii, where the Obamas and friends can access private white sand beaches and military workout facilities.

Kailua Beach

While many residents welcome the First Family, others are disheartened by the restrictions put on air, water and road travel while the President and family are in town, especially because it is the holiday season and many families on vacation want to use their boats or surf and paddle in the welcoming ocean waves fronting the Kailua homes. In addition, the President's caravan of at least 22 vehicles including an ambulance can easily overwhelm the community that typically has single lane streets.

Adding to the controversy surrounding the President's visit is the cost of the trip.

With the staff, special forces, local police presence and equipment, the President's visit adds up annually to at least a $4 million vacation courtesy of the Hawaii and federal taxpayers.

While the President and his friends pay for their own rental homes, taxpayers pick up the cost of security and waterfront housing for the Secret Service, Navy Seals and Coast Guard as well as staff accommodations at a plush beachfront Waikiki hotel.

TRAVEL: $3,629,622

The biggest expense is President Barack Obama’s round trip flight to Hawaii via Air Force One.

A Congressional Research Service report released in May 2012 said the plane typically used by the President, a Boeing 747, costs $179,750 per hour to operate. The U.S. Air Force has listed the cost of travel as high as $181,757 per flight hour.

Travel time for Air Force One direct from Washington D.C. to Hawaii is about 9 hours or as high as $1,635,813 each way for a total of $3,271,622 for the round trip to Hawaii and back.

The cost for USAF C-17 cargo aircraft that transports the Presidential limos, helicopters and other support equipment to Hawaii has never been disclosed in the years the President has traveled to Hawaii.

Moana Surfrider Resort

The rentals are fronted by the ocean and backed by a canal. So, the taxpayers must cover the costs for housing U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Coast Guard and Navy Seals in beach front and canal front homes around where the President stays.

Last year, that added up to about $200 per bedroom per day, or $21,600 per average home for a nearly three week period, with special forces renting at least 7 homes. Security arrives ahead of the President costing taxpayers about $176,400 for the length of the visit.

The President’s staff and White House Press Corps typically stay at one of Hawaii’s oldest and most elegant hotels, the Moana Surfrider. Besides its stunningly beautiful view of Waikiki, and its traditional Hawaiian architecture and decor, it is one of the most pricey hotels in the state and government rates are not available during the holiday season. Rooms  start at around $270 but can cost as much as $370 a night for an ocean view before Christmas, and climb much higher around the new year.

A conservative estimate with rooms at $270 (excluding a 9.25 percent Transient Accommodation Tax and a 4.712 percent General Excise Tax on each bill, meals, internet charges and other charges) means the taxpayers are covering more than $129,600 in hotel bills for some two dozen staff.

LOCAL TAXPAYER COSTS: $260,000

Local police are paid over time for the President’s visit, which has historically cost Oahu taxpayers $250,000.

The city ambulance the accompanies the President 24 hours a day through his entire visit is about $10,000 to city taxpayers.

■There is the cost for car rentals and fuel for White House staff staying at a Waikiki Hotel.
■And there are additional travel costs Secret Service and White House staff traveling ahead of the President.

The total cost (based on what is known) for a 20-day round trip vacation to Hawaii for the President and his family and staff and security is more than $4 million.

Hawaii Reporter annually has requested details on the cost of the President’s trip, but the White House will not release any figures, citing security concerns. A spokesperson has maintained the costs are "in line" with other presidential vacations.

Hawaii Reporter has sought to determine the cost of vacations for the current president and last two presidents but the Government Accountability Office referred Hawaii Reporter back to the White House spokesperson.

Report: Obama in Hawaii as Nation Goes Over the Cliff

by Keith Koffler on November 29, 2012, 9:38 am

President Obama is reportedly scheduled to be vacationing in Hawaii on January 2, the date billions in spending cuts – and untold consequences for the economy – will kick in if a deal is not reached on the “fiscal cliff.”

According to the Hawaii Reporter, residents who live in the area of Oahu where Obama and his family vacation have been told that the usual restrictions on their movements during an Obama stay will be in place for 21 days, from December 17 through January 6.

The White House has not officially announced the vacation, and it is unclear if the travel plans are finalized or if the Obamas will be in Hawaii for the entire three-week window covered by the restrictions.

An upcoming vacation could provide subtle pressure for Obama to reach a deal, since not getting one might force him to cancel his coveted time in Hawaii. Even though the election is behind him, Obama’s advisers would probably think it too much of a public relations nightmare to have the president luxuriating in paradise while the country embarks on a season of massive pain.

In the past, Obama has made sure he got his vacation time in – even extending his scheduled Hawaii sojourn after being forced to delay its start because of negotiations with Congress.

What’s more, the Obamas skipped their traditional August trip to ritzy Martha’s Vineyard, an excursion that would have contrasted too severely with a candidate supposedly fighting for the middle class. They presumably are more than eager at this point to get away.

The Hawaii Reporter estimates that the total cost of the vacation to Hawaii and federal taxpayers, including funding for travel, staff and protection, is at least $4 million. Obama’s vacations are more expensive than those of previous presidents because of the huge costs to fly Air Foce One and an accompanying cargo plane for nine hours or so to Hawaii.

Many accounts from inside the wh say he is dominated by women and always on the verge of tears.

so the Chooms, pot, Colt 45 (why did you choose that swill) getting bossed around by his wife and MIL (whoever that is)

you still actually believe that to be true?

You also think he's been quoting as "admitting he is lazy"
Any chance you actually have a source of a quote of him saying this?

This is what people have to make themselves believe to live with the election results.

I'm pretty sure that absurd statement is consistent with everything he believed about Obama before the last election and actually before the first election

As spring break begins for schoolchildren across the country, thousands of students will travel to Washington, DC. The trips, funded by bake sales and other events throughout the year, will allow the students to take in Washington's historic landmarks.

One premier destination is off-limits this year, however. A few weeks ago, the Obama Administration announced it was suspending public, self-guided tours of the White House as a result of the automatic sequester cuts that the administration proposed in 2011. While America's students stand outside the White House fence, the First Daughters, Sasha and Malia, are enjoying spring break with friends at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Breitbart News' Matt Boyle broke the news Monday morning that numerous sources have reported seeing the First Daughters in the Bahamas this weekend. Presumably, the Obamas are paying the costs of the resort out of their own pockets. The robust Secret Service detail that must accompany the First Daughters, however, is funded by taxpayers.

The principal reason the White House canceled public tours was to save money on Secret Service staff. The White House reported that suspending the tours would save $74,000 a week. Other reports have put the savings at just $18,000 a week.

Whichever the true amount, the Secret Service detail necessary to protect the First Daughters on their spring break could likely have been used to keep the White House open to the rest of America's school children. Judicial Watch reported that Malia Obama's Spring Break in Mexico last year cost taxpayers over $115,000. That amount would cover 2-6 weeks of White House tours.

At the very least, it would ensure that, this spring break, thousands of America's students could cap their trip to DC with a uniquely American tradition--a tour of the White House.

Obama Slated to Depart for Hawaii
by KEITH KOFFLER on DECEMBER 5, 2013

President Obama and his family will once again be taking a Hawaiian Christmas vacation, departing in two weeks – on or about December 20 – and returning January 5, according to Hawaii News Now.

That means that on January 1, at the very moment people across the country will be losing their insurance as a result of Obamacare, the president will be enjoying a festive respite from his troubles.

The Obamas have vacationed on Hawaii every year since Obama was first elected president, at considerable cost to taxpayers.

Air Force One is known to cost about $180,000 an hour to fly. Based on an estimated 18 hours roundtrip flying time for the flight between Washington and Honolulu, the travel cost alone of Obama’s annual Hawaii sojourn amounts to around $3.24 million. And that doesn’t include the price tag for the massive security operation required to move the president or the cost of the cargo plane that follows Air Force One around.

Obama is expected to stay as he has in the past in Kailua on the island of Oahu.

Spending Christmas in Afghanistan would run about 20-30 million....vacation to Illinois would almost be the same price as staying in Hawaii...which is where most of his relatives live...(besides Kenya).

To be honest, you and I know that it would not make any difference where the president went because the GOP and flat earther's would find something to complain about.  I think politics need to be set aside for the holidays...who cares where the president goes on vacation to...

I don't know what it would cost to spend Christmas in Afghanistan, but I don't mind him spending my tax dollars to do that.  He's not a strong or good enough leader to make that sacrifice.

It would cost the same to stay in his own house in Illinois, where most of his family probably is, than Hawaii?  Dude what are you smoking?  Do you know much farther Air Force One has to fly?  Do you know how much it costs to house all the people in his traveling party in Hawaii?

The only difference would be fuel for the plane....but more security would be required for Illinois than for Hawaii....but the fact that you're arguing over cost when you're proposing him to vacation in Afganistan is puzzling.  And its not like he hasn't visited before

However you seem to forget that this is a family vacation so it would be ridiculous and irresponsible for him to bring his children to Afghanistan....Bush certainly never brought his daughters.  Even if he did, the GOP would accuse him of doing it for a photo opportunity or approval etc.....its a no win situation when it comes to right wing loonies.

Fact it BB, you're not being rational.

He went to Afghanistan on the one year anniversary of Bin Laden's killing.  While running for reelection.  I am not impressed.

I never said his family should go to Afghanistan.  He should go.  Not his family.

How do you conclude more security would be required for Chicago than Honolulu?

And the cost of accommodations are not comparable.

Christmas vacation: Obamas get trip to Hawaii, taxpayers get ‘jelly-of-the-month’ club
By Malia Zimmerman  /   December 18, 2013

KAILUA, Hawaii – The presidential family will soon be vacationing in Hawaii.

It’s a holiday tradition for the Obamas, who have visited Kailua each year since 2008. The president and his friends pay rent for the 17-day trip, about $25,000 per week.

Taxpayers pay for most everything else, about $4 million, based on what we know.

Just call it another holiday tradition, of sorts, one that Clark W. Griswold would surely appreciate. The Obamas get a bonus while taxpayers get the bill, akin to an annual membership in the metaphoric jelly-of-the-month club.

It breaks down like this:

The 18-hour roundtrip aboard Air Force One costs $179,750 per hour for flight and operations — $3,235,500 total, estimates Michael Tasselmyer of the National Taxpayers Union Foundation,

A Congressional Research Service report released in May 2012 mirrors those estimates. The cost for a C-17 jet carrying presidential limos, helicopters and other support equipment to Hawaii has never been disclosed. But the roundtrip flight time from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and Hawaii is 21.5 hours, with estimated operating costs of $12,000 per hour, according to a Government Accountability Office report.

RELAX: View from the Moana Surfrider Hotel in Waikiki where the White House staff stays while the first family is in Hawaii.
The U.S. Marine Corps provides a presidential helicopter, along with pilots and support crews for the test flights, which travel on another C-17. That costs $258,000, not including per diem and hotel for the four- to six-member crew. U.S. Secret Service, Navy Seals and Coast Guard members rent homes along the canal and ocean for $250 per room per night, according to people who rent the houses.

A real estate source said the delegation, which arrives before the president, rents at least seven homes in the area, costing taxpayers more than $183,750.

White House staff who don’t stay in Kailua stay at the posh Moana Surfrider, a Westin Resort & Spa on Waikiki Beach. Hotel rooms typically rent for $670 a night, but the hotel offers discounted government rates for about $255, according to hotel public relations manager Diana Su.

The Air Force flies in 22 vehicles so the president can golf, attend a basketball game with friends at Punahou School —Obama’s alma mater — or visit favorite restaurants such as Nobu’s and Buzz’s Steakhouse. Honolulu Police on special duty are paid $250,000 — another $10,000 is spent on an around-the-clock ambulance detail.

PAYING FOR THE VIEW: The first family enjoys sunrises like these when they vacation in Kailua over the Christmas holidays
The White House annually refuses to disclose the cost of several things, citing security. Such as:

An entire floor of an office building in Kailua on the canal during the president’s stay.
Security upgrades, such as bulletproof glass and additional phone lines added to private homes; existing security systems are disabled.
Rental cars and fuel for staff and security, as well as additional costs for Secret Service and White House staff traveling ahead of the president.
Because of emergency budget negotiations last year, the president made two round trips from Washington, D.C., to Hawaii, nearly doubling the cost of the vacation — more than $7.2 million.

Judicial Watch in May sued the Secret Service to “obtain records concerning use of U.S. Government funds to provide security and any other services to President Obama and any companions on their January 1 and 2, 2013, trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.”

The case, Judicial Watch v. U.S. Secret Service, continues, but there is nothing new, Judicial Watch spokeswoman Jill Farrell said this week.

The lawsuit, based on a Hawaii Reporter and Watchdog.org report that detailed the cost of the 2012 Christmas vacation, was filed after the Secret Service failed to provide information to Judicial Watch in response to a Jan. 2 Freedom of Information Act request.

“As of May 6, the Secret Service had yet to produce any record,” Judicial Watch said in a May 2013 statement.

VIP Hotel and Vehicles for Mandela Funeral Trip More Than $11M

State Department contract awards were posted this week for "Transportation services in support of Mandela Funeral" and "Accommodation in support of the Nelson Mandela funeral in South Africa."  The accompanying Justification and Approval documents estimated the cost of transportation at a maximum of $8,286,194.74.  The transportation contract covers only ground transportation in South Africa.  Costs for Air Force One and other air travel are not included.  Two contracts were listed for the cost of lodging: one for $2,042,850 for an estimated "3,240 lodging room nights" and another for $1,190,573 for an estimated "2,490 lodging room nights" stretching from December 6, 2013 to January 20, 2014.

It is unclear from the documents if the lodging and transportation contracts covered just the president and his support staff, or if it included George W. Bush, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and other current and former government officials.  The transportation contract included passenger vehicles, SUVs, vans, buses, pickup trucks, box trucks, and "larger capacity vehicles":

Your Birthday Gift to Michelle
by KEITH KOFFLER on JANUARY 5, 2014

First Lady Michelle Obama failed to accompany President Obama and their daughters home from Hawaii today, a decision that will likely incur taxpayers at least a couple of hundred thousand dollars in costs.

Michelle happyThe White House described the move as a “birthday gift” from President Obama to his wife,  allowing her to “spend times with friends ahead of her upcoming 50th birthday,” which occurs January 17. But for this gift, you are footing much of the bill.

I estimated some costs a year ago when, on their previous vacation to Hawaii, it appeared that Michelle was going to stay in Hawaii while her husband went home to deal with a problem he was having with Congress:

Assuming Mrs. Obama uses the type of plane she has flown before to Hawaii, the Air Force C-40B Special Mission Aircraft, the cost of a flight from Honolulu to Washington would be about $63,000. If the C-40B must be flown out to Hawaii to retrieve Mrs. Obama, as would seem likely, the first lady’s travel costs could amount to about $126,000, assuming the jet is dispatched from Washington.

And the cost would be much higher still if a supply-carrying cargo jet comes home along with Michelle in addition to the cargo jet that accompanies Air Force One – particularly if that jet too must be flown out to Hawaii just for Mrs. Obama.

Once you throw in the tens of thousands of dollars that must be dished out to house, pay, and support the military and Secret Service assets enlisted to protect Mrs. Obama – as well as other support staff – the price tag for her stay is probably in excess of $200,000, and possibly much more, depending on how long she remains on vacation.

Instead, last year Obama returned to Hawaii to resume his vacation after finishing up with Congress, at a far greater cost to taxpayers due to the much higher price tag for flying Air Force One.

That would seem unlikely this year, but anything’s possible.

Locals frustrated over Michelle’s extended sleepover at Oprah’s

The public continues to pick up the tab for President Obama’s “birthday gift” to the first lady — but this time it’s the local residents who are groaning, not the American taxpayer.

Michelle Obama’s extended Hawaiian vacation and move to Oprah Winfrey’s compound has done little but exacerbate the “Queen of Talk’s” already strained relationship with her neighbors.

Heightened security in the area turns what was once a quick 10-minute run to the store into an occasion to take along provisions, and “is making day-to-day life almost impossible,” wrote TMZ.

According to TMZ:

The owner of nearby Goble’s Flower Farm tells us … security checkpoints have been set up on the roads … blocking customers from shopping there.

Other business owners complain they can’t stock their shelves because road closures have screwed up their deliveries.

A worker at Grandma’s Maui Coffee tells us, employees are arriving VERY late to work.

And it’s not just businesses that are being interrupted — fun and recreation are also affected with local hiking trails shut down for the first lady.

And what do the locals get in return? Not much, as it turns out, even those privileged few who are actually invited over for her 50th birthday celebration. Guests have been told to eat before attending her “Snacks & Sips & Dancing & Dessert” celebration, according to the New York Daily News.

Apparently, she doesn’t want to be bothered with actually feeding people. After all, it’s really all about her, isn’t it?

Michelle to Return from Hawaii by Wednesday
by KEITH KOFFLER on JANUARY 13, 2014

Alas, it’s over.

After 24 days on vacation in Hawaii, including ten without her husband and children, First Lady Michelle Obama will return to Washington by Wednesday.

Michelle, who has been holed up at Oprah Winfrey’s fabulous spread on Maui since President Obama and their daughters departed Hawaii January 4, has an event – a White House screening of an educational movie – scheduled for Wednesday at 4 pm. That means she’ll leave Hawaii Tuesday night at the latest.

The first lady’s decision to extend her vacation will probably cost taxpayers in excess of $200,000, including the cost of a special flight aboard an Air Force jet.

Obamas Made Hawaii Trip to Showcase Income Inequality
by KEITH KOFFLER on JANUARY 16, 2014

In what can only be described as a remarkable sacrifice for the public good, the Obamas’ extended vacation in Hawaii was staged entirely to showcase for the public what happens when you allow too much income inequality.

According to White House advisors close to the president – not close, as in standing next to him all the time, but who have a close relationship with him, at least professionally – the Obamas planned and executed their exorbitant excursion to Hawaii for no other reason than to show Americas how disgustingly well the disgustingly rich live and to drum up support for Obama’s agenda to close the income gap.

“The president and Mrs. Obama this year wanted to just take a three-day weekend at a Ramada Inn in Philadelphia,” said one White House source. “But they felt that, for the good of the country, they must head to Honolulu so people could understand what’s really going on with income inequality.

On the record, aides were more circumspect. “The president always stands ready to do what’s right for the American people, even if this involves some inconvenience and level of sacrifice on his part” said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

To drive the point home, President Obama played golf nine times while in Hawaii. “I’m sick of golf. I’m not going,” Obama snapped as he was told by aides he must head out to the links for the ninth and final time.

The president then had to be restrained after smashing a vase of orchids with his putter, according to sources who were present at the time of the incident, which occurred in the billiards room of his rental home. But aides then calmed him down and convinced him he must shoot one last round – for the people’s sake.

Soon after playing, it was time to head home.

But Mrs. Obama, who is whispered to be the most forceful advocate within the White House of ending income inequality, believed that even after more than two weeks on vacation, the Obamas had not done enough. With time running out on their rental, Michelle volunteered to make the arduous journey from Oahu to Maui, where she would spend another nine days or so at the home of Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah’s pad was not her first choice, aides emphasized.

“She expressed a desire to stay at the Maui Motel 6, but we convinced her that the only way to truly make her point was to hang out with Oprah,” said a person close to Michelle. Again, not person close to Michelle  like sitting at the same table with her or something, but close to her in that, you know, they talk.

According to several informed sources, Michelle is considering skiing this year in the Alps, believing that her annual trips to Aspen do not sufficiently showcase the lifestyles of the rich and famous for the benefit poor people.

Meanwhile, Obama next month will jet down to Florida again for golf lessons with Tiger Woods, and he plans to enhance this symbolic demonstration of the income gap with a practical step toward closing it by this time tipping the caddies.

New Air Force documents show that the tab to taxpayers for recent trips President Obama and his family took to Africa and Honolulu was nearly $16 million – and that's just for the flights.

The documents obtained by activist group Judicial Watch show the Africa trip required 35.5 flight hours. At a cost of $228,288 per flight hour, the total cost was a staggering $8,104,224.

For the Obamas' Christmas vacation in Honolulu, starting in December 2013 and ending in January 2014, the documents, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, show the first family accumulated 36.9 total flight hours. At a cost of $210,877 per flight hour, the flight costs alone for that trip totaled $7,781,361.30, according to the Air Force documents.

That amount, Judicial Watch said in a press release, is $3,695,006.10 more than the Obama family’s flight expenses for their 2012-2013 Honolulu Christmas vacation.

The total airfare bill for the U.S. taxpayer for the two trips is $15,885,585.30.

“The costs to taxpayers of President Obama’s travel, especially his luxury vacation travel, are beyond the pale,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “And the secrecy surrounding these costs shows that Obama’s vows of transparency are rubbish.”

The Africa trip ran from June 27, 2013, until July 3, 2013. The Obamas visited three countries in Africa: Senegal, South Africa, and Tanzania. A report in The Washington Post estimated the total trip cost to be about $100 million, to which the White House responded, according to The Hill, that the trip was a “great bang for our buck.”

The first family’s 17-day Honolulu vacation began on December 20, 2013, after Obama said at a press conference that he was "eager to skip town."

These documents come in the wake of February reports from Judicial Watch that the first family’s eight-day August 2013 vacation in Martha’s Vineyard cost taxpayers $1,164,268.60 in flight costs alone.

Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton also traveled to Africa, and their trips cost tens of millions of dollars, as well.

However, Obama has traveled more internationally and at a higher expense than any president before him at the same point in their presidencies, according to a National Taxpayer Union study released earlier this week.

And what have we taxpayers received in return for this?  Other than the bill?

Yes, those of us who pay taxes have been paying enormous amounts of money for Obama vacations.

You are quite the partisan if you think everyone in the Republican Party is a laughing stock of the country.  You just posted a picture of governors and senators who were elected to public office.  I guess all those voters who put them there didn't consider them a laughing stock.

But you're also the person who said the Republican Party is dead.  The same party that holds the House, is poised to retake the Senate, and holds the majority of governorships and state legislatures.

Who paid for Bush's vacations?  How many more did he take?  Let's not let your little stupid act get in the way of your actual stupidity.  It's pretty much accepted you are the biggest hypocrite on the board, but before you fall back on the usual whine of "it's not about Bush" or whatever variation you want to use, you can easily show us where you are against presidents taking vacations of any kind.  Surely the act is just as bad no matter which sitting party is doing it.

And yeah...  the Republican party is pretty dead.  It can't even unite itself on a day to day basis.  For some party to hold the House, retaking the Senate, and holds the majority of the govs and state legis, they sure as shit can't stop much of Obama agenda.  Hell, they can't even nominate anything other than former libs and RINOS.

Holy smokes.  What an angrily little dude.  Did your mommy not hug you enough as a kid?

In any event, yes taxpayers always fund portions of presidential vacations.  That doesn't make the Obamas' wasteful vacations any less wasteful.

If the Republican Party is dead, then why are they in control of so much of the country, and continually making gains?  Doesn't make sense.

But I'm about done.  If you want to stop acting like a little punk and talk about issues like a grownup, I'm happy to continue.

Obama again?  Just Obama?   Does it make Bush's vacation any less wasteful?

Instead of regurgitating a half ass answer, why not just post a link to where you claimed the same for Bush?  Surely, your feelings about presidential vacations being wasteful didn't materialize overnight when Obama took office.   That would render any counter claim I may/will make of you being a hypocrite irrelevant.  Good luck with it though.

Didn't know that exposing hypocrisy was "angrily".

Who cares about whether I or anyone else criticized Bush for overspending on vacations years ago?  I know you like to harp on calling people hypocrites, but seriously, what does that have to do with whether the Obamas are being reckless with taxpayer money?

I'm talking about Obama because he's president.  The Bush boogeyman is gone (and ironically more popular than Obama).  The fact Obama does things like sends two planes to Hawaii at taxpayer expense and his wife spends hundreds of thousands on vacations is really an abuse of the privileges afforded to the president, particularly during "the worst recession since the Great Depression."  It's also poor leadership.  I frankly don't care if Bush, Clinton, Ford . . . Teddy Roosevelt also did the same thing.  Doesn't make it right.

Judicial Watch: Obama Family’s 2014 Christmas Vacation in Hawaii Cost Taxpayers $3,672,798 in Transportation Expenses
By Editor on March 10, 2015

I don’t care who the president is, Obama, Bush, TBD, this sort of extravagance is an insult to taxpayers. $3.6 million? For air travel alone? The below article reminds me of the time Obama flew the family dog to Martha’s Vineyard, by itself, because he forgot it at home.

Granted the president has a little more to worry about when traveling than we do, but this is not a reasonable level of expense. Just because one is president does not mean that one has carte blanche with the taxpayer’s money. Sadly, I’ll bet expense to taxpayers isn’t an issue Mr. Obama concerns himself with. He’s the president after all. He deserves this.

Doesn’t this guy ever just go to Camp David?

Judicial Watch announced today it obtained records from the U.S. Department of the Air Force revealing that the Obama family’s 2014 Christmas vacation to Honolulu, Hawaii, cost taxpayers $3,672,798 in flight expenses alone. Christmas in Hawaii is an annual tradition for the family and their most recent visit, from December 19, 2014, to January 4, 2015, marked their seventh Hawaiian vacation. The documents came from the Department of the Air Force in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed on January 5, 2015.  Costs for the trip to Hawaii, to the West Coast, and to Martha’s Vineyard last year, cost nearly $3 million alone in transportation.

According to the documents, the Obama’s spent 17.8 hours in the air round-trip at $206,337.00 per hour, bringing the total cost to taxpayers to $3,672,798.60.

According to other figures obtained by Judicial Watch over the past three years, Obama Hawaii Christmas vacations have cost taxpayers $15,540,515.10 in transportation expenses alone.

While Obama Vacations, Taylor Swift Donates $1 Million To Flood-Ravaged Louisiana

Louisiana has been hit by devastating flooding, and thousands of people have lost everything. Eleven people have died.

President Obama is currently vacationing on Martha's Vineyard, and aside from signing a disaster declaration five days ago, has otherwise not commented on the situation. (He did, however, have time to go to a Hillary Clinton fundraiser.)

Compare this to pop star Taylor Swift. Swift, who began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana last year, said that she appreciated her fans in Louisiana and was heartbroken by the devastation in the state. She then pledged to donate $1 million in relief money and encouraged others to "help out and send [their] love and prayers."

Swift released a statement to the Associated Press:

"We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home. The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking," the 26-year-old said in a statement.

[...]

"I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time," Swift said.

What a weird world we live in where a pop star is doing more PR about a disaster than the president of the country.

You're complaining that obama spent 15 million on vacation flights.

Did you complain that Bush spent 20 million?   Bwahahaha I mean really coach...

Obama and his daughter are take turns on the bong.   Michelle is in shoulder pads doing tackle drills on the sled in that back yard.  The little one is probably starting on booze and raiding the liquor cabinet.

What I'm trying to say is that every time something unflattering or negative is said about a liberal, you pipe in to try and deflect attention away from liberals.  The DNC should put you on their payroll.

Quit yer whining.

You did not make a good point.  You do what you always do when someone brings up a point about a liberal.  As I said, the DNC should put you on their payroll.

I showed that by comparison, this president spent less than the last.   Maybe his spending is just what it takes to move the most valuable national leader on the planet around in safety.  Should he ride greyhound?   Bush's costs were higher, telling me Obama's travels aren't that big of a deal.

If bush spend $2 mil, and Obama spent $20 mil, you can sure bet that comparison would have made it into the article ;)

You didn't do any such thing.  No. 1, I don't know why anyone would be stupid enough to click on any link you post given how much you distort the truth on this board.

No. 2, who gives a rip if Bush spent more money on vacations?  That is a textbook moral equivalency fail.

I know you Obamabots have a lot invested in that man, but George Bush has nothing to do with Obama.

Obama unlikely to halt vacation to visit flooded Louisiana
AP ^ | Aug. 18, 2016 | DARLENE SUPERVILLE

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — President Barack Obama is unlikely to break from a New England vacation to survey flood damage in Louisiana, despite calls for him to visit and meet with responders and victims.

The White House insists Obama is not indifferent to the suffering of thousands who were washed out of their homes in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas of the state. At least 13 people have died as a result of the flooding, and at one point 11,000 were in shelters. That number has dropped as water levels have receded.

You literally spend all day here saying the same shit over and over (half of it or more being complete fucking fabrications)

President Obama’s Refusal to Interrupt Golf Vacation Amid Louisiana Flooding Stirs Anger
The Washington Times ^ | 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 | By Valerie Richardson - The Washington Times
Posted on 8/18/2016, 10:43:51 PM by drewh

President Obama is stirring resentment over his refusal to interrupt his Martha’s Vineyard vacation to survey the Louisiana flood — the worst U.S. natural disaster since 2012 — while drawing comparisons to President George W. Bush’s hotly criticized response to Hurricane Katrina in the same state.

Mr. Obama’s lack of urgency is drawing unflattering parallels to the federal response in 2005, when Mr. Bush was branded as uncaring and even racist for not touching down during a flyover two days after Hurricane Katrina

Not only has Mr. Obama refused to cut short his golfing vacation, but he also has issued no public or written statements about the crisis, which has been dubbed the Louisiana Flood of 2016.

The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge opened the floodgates Thursday by urging Mr. Obama to cut his vacation short and bring badly needed attention to the disaster, which has claimed 13 lives and damaged 40,000 homes after a series of storms that unleashed nearly 3 feet of rain. “Vacation or not, a hurting Louisiana needs you now, Mr. President,” said the headline. “We’ve seen this story before in Louisiana, and we don’t deserve a sequel,” the editorial said. “In 2005, a flyover by a vacationing President George W. Bush became a symbol of official neglect for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The current president was among those making political hay out of Bush’s aloofness.”

The newspaper noted that Mr. Obama did stray Monday from Martha’s Vineyard, described as a “playground for the posh and well-connected,” to attend a nearby fundraiser for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. “I think when you need presidential leadership, you need presidential leadership, and when you sign up to be president, you sign up for a 24/7 job,” Advocate Editor Peter Kovacs said on CNN.

This is one of the last vacations shitbama can steal from the taxpayers so no kidding he wont cut it short.  He is the type stuffing bread rolls, ketchup packets, and whatever else he can on the way out of a resturant after scamming his way to a free meal and not tipping the waiter.

Typical

Papeete (AFP) - Barack Obama arrived in French Polynesia where he will spend a month at a luxury resort frequented by Hollywood stars, according to local TV channel Tahiti Nui TV.

The former US president landed on the tourist island Tahiti without his family before going to Marlon Brando's privately owned retreat Tetiaroa atoll, which the Oscar-winning actor bought in the 1960s.

Obama has checked into the eco-friendly Brando resort, whose villas boast their own plunge pools and cost between 2,000 euros ($2,150) and 12,300 euros per night.
