Yeh  the puppy  mills are scary things to learn about once you realize how nasty the conditions are for the mums and puppies   :(
That mighty $  and those who dont give a sh*t about animals!!
Here is a pic of Bessa the "June Bug" [and the pic that stole my heart].
Her breeder is very reputable and only breeds one at a time  ;)  To "show" mainly as she is trying to bring about the best "lines" as far as a French Bulldog goes.
And Cheri those baby pics of your newbie pup are sooo gorgeous  :D

Yeah I hate those dog mills.

That dog likes being dressed up.

Because it's a DOG?   Not a doll, not a baby.   You've already fallen for the "teacup" baloney, don't go the whole line and do the "my little cutesy dog" attention.    You live in FL, there is no reason to put clothes on it except for YOUR needs, not the dog's.   Tad will have a doggie coat or sweater for the winter and if he does like the snow maybe something to protect his feet, but those are for his health and not for my needs to make him look cute.  Get him a cute bag or collar to parade him around in and get a Barbie to dress up.

Too many breeds are developing major health issues because of people breeding faults and defects in them to satisfy a look or too make more money by passing them off as "rare", to the detriment of the breeds health and function.  Most "working dogs" couldn't do the job they were originally bred for because of being bred for a look now which goes against function.

Chi's are just one breed that is being exploited because people want the tiniest one so "I can dress it up and parade it around".   Who cares about the dog itself "as long as it looks cute".
:-\
Ok Flower, that's about enough.   >:(  You are making me out to be an abusive pet mother or something.  For your information I did my best to adopt a puppy in need of a home first...going all the way down to Miami and up to Orlando with no avail.  Rocky is a puppy that belongs to the daughter-in-law of someone I personally know so I know he wasn't bred for "cuteness" or size.   This puppy is going to get more than enough love in the family and have a better life than most seeing he is something I desperately wanted and if I wanna put little boots on his little feet to protect them from the hot pavement...I will.  If I want to put a rain coat on him so he doesn't get soaking wet when I walk him...I will.  If I want to put a little puppy costume on him at Halloween...I will.  And it I want to put a little "I'm a spoiled brat" tee shirt on him once in a while just because he is...I fricken will.  I will not however do anything to jeopardize his health for fashion (just because I said "I could probably fit Barbie clothes on him" doesn't mean I am putting Barbie clothes on him), so please do not play me off as someone who would.  This is not my first animal I ever had ya know, let alone my first puppy.  >:(

::)  Putting a coat or whatever on because it is cold is a bit different than "I can't wait to dress him up".   Too each his own, but it IS for the attention for yourself in the latter case.

I knew about this "teacup" bullshit before I had my chi and it pissed me off.  Now that I have one of my own I am more pissed at the exploitation people will go to to make a buck.   They usually charge more and the animal could end up costing the owner more money in the long run for vet bills besides possibly having a poorer quality of life.  "look how tiny it is"   Yeah, too bad it has bulging eye problems and it's organs can barely sustain it's life, it sure is cute!  Sucks for the animals to pay for humans satisfaction with their quality of life.

Anybody who knows me knows I have a passion for my dogs, animals in general.  So why should I keep my mouth shut for niceties sake when someone can be educated and learn the truth for the future, or when someone is unknowingly saying false information that can further harm the health of the breed?

Thanks for being a responsible dog owner, flower!  (and I am not trying to put anyone else down here, ok?!)  What little I know about dog breeding, I've learned that what is done is not for the good of the breed.  It's so that a dog looks nice and cute.  Then those breeds end up having severe health problems or are just plain stupid.

I thought every board was supposed to have it's own dog thread.

Since I don't have a dog currently, I'll post a pic of body88's very goodlooking dog.

Im not even going to read this thread.  I don't have a dog.

With that title, I thought it meant the friend that uses batteries.

Oh get over it.   I don't think you would be an abusive person, but saying you can't wait to dress it up and who could resist not doing that is NOT putting a raincoat or sweater or whatever to protect it from the elements.  That is for you, not for the dog.  You want to do it fine, but it is all for attention to you, right?

And you falling for the teacup line is not your fault but the breeders tactics.  Sorry if that's the truth about them.  No reason why you shouldn't get him and love him, but at least now you know the truth and if you decide to get another sometime you will not unknowlingy be encouraging bad, unhealthy, and unethical breeding practices.

And your friend calling him a "teacup" shows she is a liar and perpetuating that shit.    She should be saying he is a RUNT, and be forthcoming in health problems he may have.

Wifey but a little yellow rain coat on Oscar when he was a puppy, I wasnt thrilled about the idea but I admit I had to laugh! He looked like ET with the hood up. I'll post a picture some time.
