Tom also said his hardest set/sets of squats was doing 100 reps with 225.

Swede> he went completely off sauce and training following 86..to slim down for movies. I think this footage is from 91 or something...

and he made a small comeback in 93 or something. Don't know the dates.

So the reason for him struggling with the plates is he was in very little shape.

it doesnt matter, 315 he should struggle with that weight no matter what..
It has to be more then 315...

maby 100 pound plates or something?

Tom made a comment during the filming of this that he was in his "off" stage.

I don't think that's true. If you don't train at all, and don't do any drugs, what happens..you go back to an untrained shape. And an untrained tom platz probably can't squat EASY reps with 3 plates.

Also..we don't know what number set that was.

Interestingly though I have a friend, a former BB who's done 100 reps with 243 lbs (110 kg). I think he chose 110 kg to "beat" Platz. He's also done 60 fucking reps with 353 lbs on squats. Does anyone believe this? it sounds like a bullshit stat right?

Well I trained with him some months ago, he hasn't competed in 7 years or so, and after 1 year of doing no squats he still busted out 20 with 315. Very rough set.

and so should Platz be able to do.

So something is not adding up.

That's why I mentioned it. But this guy, my friend, had still been training during this year. doing leg presses and hack squats and extensions etc, and hamstrings.

Also...strengh is individual... if I don't squat for 3 weeks I'lle come back and struggle with 225...but my shoulder pressing strength seems to stay no matter what.

I do get what you're saying though.

It was likely his last set and he went to failure all the time.

Tom also said his hardest set/sets of squats was doing 100 reps with 225.

We have a guy on here who can deadlift what Platz squatted.

Tom was open about drug use at his seminars. I applaud that, unlike pros who deny it. lol

Ha! I'm guessing, like his workouts, Tom didn't half-ass his usage, neither.

Ignore the fact it's bouncy.

Look at his mechanics....    VERY few people can replicate/imitate that. Short femurs, VERY flexible ankles...probably very thich and strong knees from nature's side, hip flexibility, proper torso length etc.

Bottom line is..specialize in your natural abilities. I will never, ever squat anything like platz. Just as platz never did X as done by Pro Y.
Why ignore the bouncing? Bad on the knees. Decent form but I've certainly seen better. Not taking anything from Patz. He has absolutely awesome legs.

Apart from the bouncing I haven't seen ANYONE do BB squats with better form than platz. He had 100% structure for squats.

Look at his 23 reps with 525 video.

Besides...if the knees can take it would bouncing be considered "bad"? Not necessarily. It's a precaution, right?

(as I pointed out tom never had knee problems from squats)

Also..we don't know what number set that was.

That was probably his 5th or 6th set.
I have the whole video series of that shoot, and Costa and Platz just traded off doing a crazy amount of sets. It's been awhile since I've watched the tape, but I remember counting like 7-9 sets at least.
Costa bangs out 24 reps or so on his first few sets, Platz is "only" doing 15. I believe the weight is somewhere near 325+. They use the same weight (from my memory) the whole time, and would do as many reps as possible.
A few times, both Leo and Tom, pause in the middle of a set and say "I felt something pop." Then they do a rep (or two) and continue saying "it's OK."
The whole series was pretty damn entertaining to watch. Leo is a beast, though not the easiest physique on the eyes!

onlyme didn't you see good old tom train?

can you tell any good stories, what you saw?

I saw Tom train a few times and always legs.  I just remember one incident when he was doing calves.  He had the whole stack plus some added weight.  He would go to failure and had two guys then help him to the bench and rest.  I really only remember him going to failure on every set.  The morons on here who have the balls to criticize Tom and the way he trains legs or the weight he does or the reps he does are just ignorant.  Unreal how people on here can do that when they are not even close to what Tom had.  Jealousy and insecurity oozes out of these guys.  It is funny as hell.
