An old article i found in Total Sport magazine says when serving the "rape" conviction Tyson hit the weights hard and got up to a 440lb bench single and squatted 500 for a few.

Getting away from the SF obsession, i think the bench is possible given his natural strength and enough time in there to work up to it over years.

Agreed. If he had a a few dedicated years to really work on it and included a helluva bounce on the lift, I can see him benching a little over 400 lbs.

I think he probably didn't bench 440lbs but it's not something that would surprise me if he actually did.

I don't think either are true.
On Muscle Mayhem Chad Nichols talked about how Tyson contracted him to train him for a fight a long time ago. Chad said that Tyson was far far out of shape, and could barely squat 95lbs (quarter per side). But when Chad got to him, he was up to 315lbs.
It's not like Teh Chad to lie, either!

He said several times he did not believe in lifting weights when he was a boxer. I doubt he went into the can a convicted rapist and decided benches and squats would become his new life. He's all bout hookers and blow guy is as lazy as they come he probably sat around doing fucking nothing the entire time.
