John Wayne died in 1979, which is probably before many Getbiggers were born. His last film was 'The Shootist' released in 1976.
"Eloquent last hurrah for a man who superseded mere movie-star status to become an icon of American culture, with Wayne playing aging, legendary gunfighter J.B. Books. Opening with a black-and-white montage of scenes from Wayne's earlier westerns, the film traces Books's career from 1871 to 1901, when THE SHOOTIST is set."
I've never seen this movie. How many of you folks have?
This is a head-shot of Wayne from the movie:
Here's some interesting statistics which play into who might vote for Trump because they object to the renaming of an airport in Orange County California. Baby Boomers and older generations, who will be ages 56 and older next year, are expected to account for
fewer than four-in-ten eligible voters in 2020. Although that amounts to about 28% of the registered voters. However, Boomers and Millennial's are the most likely to vote.
Being as how this airport is in California, I'm not sure how many people living in Middle America and parts of the South (where Trump's base is) even know that it exists, much less care. On the other hand, John Wayne was a popular figure with these "salt of the earth" folks. People in the biggest likely 2020 election voting block.
John Wayne airport was formerly known as Orange County airport. It was renamed in 1979. There are 2 runways. The lobby contains a bronze statue of John Wayne.
