De Blasio is useless — and NYC’s next mayor could be even worse
New York Post ^ | September 8, 2020 | Michael Goodwin

If Mayor Putz had thrown in a “just kidding” line, his Tuesday press conference would have made more sense. Instead, he again looked like a mayor who doesn’t give a damn.

“Except for that incident, overwhelmingly we had a peaceful weekend in central Brooklyn,” de Blasio told reporters.

“That incident” was the shooting of a 6-year-old boy and his mother. And the “peaceful weekend” included the shootings of 26 other people around the five boroughs.

If this is peace, what would war look like?

Called on his disconnect, de Blasio fired back by saying he was only talking about central Brooklyn. So now he’s just the mayor of central Brooklyn?

It is hard to imagine that New York will survive the nearly 16 months remaining in de Blasio’s reign of error, and even harder to believe he wants to do the work the job requires. Lazy by nature, he has coasted since he was re-elected in 2017 for his second and final term, and his performance during the pandemic reveals he’s already quit on the city.

Serious plans for reopening schools were nonexistent for too long and he made little effort and next-to-no progress in getting the union on board. The city’s unemployment rate remains at nearly 20 percent and some 646,000 private sector jobs vanished, yet there is no evidence de Blasio cares about getting people back to work.

The city is hemorrhaging red ink but his only stabs at the gigantic and growing deficit are to try to raise taxes and borrow.

All these circumstances constitute emergencies, but Public Enemy No. 1 is the surge of violent crime.

I'll believe that they're serious when they stop "considering" and actually move.
Must be tough selling expensive property right now.  They would take a huge loss.

I hadn't considered that.  They are indeed "holding the bag" at the moment.

If they are wealthy enough they could move but hold onto the property until the price goes back up or they decide they want to move back when things calm down.

Many probably dont want to lose millions of dollars on real estate, although at the rate of it - we are probably F'D for a long time given the AOC's etc in office.

Despite a Massive Budget Crisis in NYC, Mayor de Blasio's
Wife Maintains a Staff That Comes With a Shocking Price Tag
PJ Media ^ | 08/20/2020 | Rick Moran FR Posted on 8/20/2020, 10:39:50 AM by SeekAndFind
New York City is in the midst of a massive budget crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The city is facing layoffs of 22,000 city workers, the trash isn’t getting picked up, the parks aren’t being maintained. But Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, maintains a staff of 14 and has a budget of $2 million. McCray is a professional activist, meaning she’s a pro at squeezing money out of politicians. She got her soulmate Bill to give her $1.25 billion for a mental health initiative she called ThriveNYC. That was five years ago. So how’s that program working?

No one really knows because McCray apparently can’t keep track of the money.

New York Post: First lady Chirlane McCray’s ThriveNYC unveiled a splashy new website Monday purporting to show the $1.25 billion plan has “dramatically improved the landscape of mental health services in New York City over the last five years.” But a closer look at geocoded maps and colorful bar graphs in the “Data Dashboard” reveals missing metrics for over two-thirds of the programs, no advancements for about half of the initiatives and a major decrease in services badly needed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And there’s only six months worth of data for the nearly five-year-old program.

You mean she has to keep track of the money? I guess no one told her. Her staff has doubled in size since 2018, including the addition of a videographer.

Fox News: They include the $70,000 videographer McCray brought on in February. The shooter, who is listed as a Department of Health employee in city records, filmed the first lady making ginger snaps on April 2 during the coronavirus lockdown.

AOC-backed socialists have a plan to take over New York City
New York Post ^ | September 21, 2020 | Carl Campanile
Posted on 9/21/2020, 2:19:53 PM by karpov

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Democratic socialists brigade wants to turn New York City far-left — from the ground up.

The Democratic Socialists of America-NYC is pushing to put up or back a slate of City Council candidates who, if elected, would create a “socialist caucus.”

The overwhelmingly Democratic council is vulnerable next year to the left-of-left push with 35 out of 51 council seats up for grabs due to term limits. Only 16 council members can run for re-election.

The strategy is detailed in a 13-page “tasks and perspectives” strategic planning document that will be reviewed by DSA members this week.

A litmus test for candidates to obtain the DSA endorsement is a pledge to “defund” the NYPD — slashing the police budget by $3 billion or 50 percent.

“This campaign will be a key issue in the 2021 election cycle. NYC-DSA has already committed to making the call to defund [the NYPD] a central matter in its City Council endorsements and the socialist caucus it aims to build in advance of the 2022 budget,” the DSA steering committee plan says.

The DSA document complains that the already liberal council and mayor this year “merely moved [NYPD] money around” when they adopted the current budget following protests over the deaths of unarmed black men during interactions with police, including George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The savings from the police cuts could be used to prevent the layoffs of teachers, EMTs and firefighters or fund youth and social service programs to attack the root causes of crime, the DSA said.

DSA member AOC has become the face of the Democratic socialist movement in Congress and a national voice on the far left in American politics following her stunning victory over veteran Congressman Joe Crowley in 2018.
