Kai Greene on the decline from 2009 to 2012?
« on: October 01, 2012, 06:55:20 PM »
I thought there was something off about Kai this O' but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Here's a video from the 2009 Australian Grand Prix. Check out the fullness and conditioning on the dude. I think he really peaked here. Also notice how much fuller his bicep look here than they did at the olympia... almost seems as if he has torn his biceps which makes his bi's look more 'peaky' now but they loose their fullness.

notice how skinny Kai's arms look here relatively, it really comes out in the most muscular pose. His chest also looks weaker, and seems to have developed more gyno which is very distracting from the physique.

He's not declining, IMO he's getting better.  He just needs to get the timing right.

I agree with 240... if he was just a tad less depleted, I believe Kai would have won the O.

Also, Kai needs to get rid of that pony tail thingy and shave his head.

Agreed he was a little flat, but that was better than having the bloated gut.

I think we may be witnessing what seems to come around with some of these bodybuilders. Greg Kovacs, the originator of palumboism (wonder how that works) is the obvious case. Look at how good branch looked just a few years ago, now he's known as the curmudgeonly gnome on getbig. Ronnie looked like shit in 2007. Lee Priest seems to have lost his back altogether towards the end. Hell, Jay Cutler should have retired many years ago (well he did look good at his first Mr O win, but still not his best ever).

I think its a combination of ageing and drug abuse. Perhaps the drugs accelerate the ageing, but these guys don't seem to be able to hold their best package for long.

I'd like to have skinny arms like that.

No BBer looks great in every pose.  Everyone has their strong and weak points.

his arms looks like they lost size since his 2009 showing. I think thats indisuptable. And they look weird in the most muscular shot, which is now his worst pose (standing on the head pose notwithstanding).

His midsection looks completely different. I always thought it was the major problem with his physique, but he looked great this year.

Phil won every pose in every round.

In my opinion, Kai could have come out here with Ronnie's physique and he was getting straight 2's.

I agree. The question is; Will the IFBB ever hand the sandow to Kai?

Eh, I dunno about that, m'man.  Kai had his strong points and Phil wasn't at his very best, but as you said, Phil won every pose in every round (well, almost).

Take the back double-biceps.  Kai is wicked there.  But his mid/lower traps ... WTF?!  SMALL opposite the rest of his back.  It throws off the whole flow.  Phil's back is very equally developed.

And then there's the way Kai does his most-musculars.  His traditional "crab" pose sucks grapefruit juice straight up a schome's ass.

I'm convinced had Ronnie circa '98-'01, then '03-'05 (and maybe 2006, which I thought he should've won anyway), walked out on that stage, Phil would've run crying for mommy after the first round.  He is good.  I actually think he catches WAY too much shit at Getbig, especially for that stupid narrow clavicle/chest shit.  But even an 80% Ronnie, out of nowhere?  The judges would give it to the Colemanator.  That's essentially what they did in '98, when they expected to crown Flex or Nasser but Ronnie whipped both their asses.

This.  There was nothing Phil did special in the 2nd night.  Kai shrunk over 24 hrs, was no where as full as PJ.
