Recovered well but seemed to loose his drive after that.
I was always a big fan of him, nice build and a nice guy.

one of my fav's from back the,great build,88 olympia was peeled,back was good esp erectors,not enough mass to take gaspari and haney.had total look going to the t.he still looks fit and facially good.

I watched him train (Jim Quinn, as well) at the Powerhouse Gym on Queensway here in Toronto one Saturday afternoon in the early 90s when he was a part of the WBF.

Berry DeMey was a fantastic bodybuilder. And he was much like Bob Paris in that, when you saw him in the gym, he looked much bigger than pictures portrayed. Nice guy, too. I watched him train (Jim Quinn, as well) at the Powerhouse Gym on Queensway here in Toronto one Saturday afternoon in the early 90s when he was a part of the WBF.
Poor Berry....first he went up against Bob Paris at the Worlds/Universe-and lost, the next year same result with Mike Christian.
But, he was a pussy wrecking machine for sure.
I remember when Berry and Jim Quinn trained in San Diego Gold's in 89-when they both first made it to Venice-and they were both tall (6'1-6'2) and both were in contest shape. Amazing.

Berry was the first Pro I ever met when I vacationed in Venice (at Joe Bucci's now Best Western) back in 1989. I went to get my hair cut at Locks, Stock & Barrel or whatever it was called and the hot girl cutting my hair had Berry's photo on her mirror. I asked if she knew him and she said that was her boyfriend. I didn't believe her, but she told me to come by the next day at the same time. I showed up and walked in and she was cutting someone's hair facing the other way. I said, "Is he coming?" and she spun the chair around and there was Berry, grinning widely.
I'll post some pics of this momentous event right after I finish giving myself some "Demey" highlights.

If I'm not mistaken, Ron Popeil used to market that as GLH. I've seen it in the Vegas gambling pits; never in real life. :D

Many of the tall dudes didn't weigh enough in the 1980's. Berry Demey, Bob Paris, Mike Christian (all over 6'0") got up to 250 pounds but didn't look it. Now guys who are half a foot shorter weigh 40 pounds more than they did back then. These were men who could have carried 270-280 pounds on their frames and caused some serious damage in competition. The only exception was 250 pound Haney, who had a perfect combination of cuts and MASS.

I'm not saying he wasn't, but when put next to Haney, he came across as being quite narrow in the upper torso. As for legs, they were pretty much non-existant.

Sure I did, what? Watch Berry and Jim train? What's so remarkable about seeing a pro work out? Hell, I've seen many top bodybuilders and elite powerlifters train. Ate and hung around with many, too. I was a one-time assistant editor for MuscleMag International, managing editor for Peak Training Journal and am currently an online editor for MuscleMag's website.
I'm almost 270. Big enough? ::)

DEMEY is holding his own in most bodyparts with haney in that pic.,but can't touch haneys back thickness,that why lee was the champ.at least in that pose,but from front haneys chest was thicker than most if not all.but berry was a great bber and conditioned to the tttt...

Best Dutch bodybuilder!! Spoke to him many times, always friendly. Third at the 1988 Olympia, and from 1985 till 1988 in the top six at the Olympia. Two pictures from 2008 (April) and some from the old-times.

Paula Piwarunas....(shown in the pic above in the pool with Berry) had alot of potential, then moved to Vegas and it was over for her..really sad
coroner said natural causes but she was basically anorexic and drug addicted.

W B F He left the IFBB at the height of popularity in tn the IFBB. He was making mad cash with the WBF, but they got lazy. He looked great at the 1993 NOC and probably should have placed higher

I ran into Luiz in Golds Hollywood years ago after he retired, he was still big then but was making good money personal training, he told me he didnt see the point continuing as he could make more money personal training than he could competing and he didnt have to risk his health. Smart guy i agreed with him, he was never going to be a top 5 guy, great legs, funnily enough i thnk he qualified for the olympics as a swimmer for Brazil before he got into bodybuilding, more than likely thats when he started using steroids ;D

Count me in too. I seriously doubt if I were a kid today I would be inspired by the current crop of guys. Some type of aesthetic line was crossed. I even loved how most of the pro female bodybuilders looked, but obviously not anymore. I still keep many magazines from the 70's, 80's and early 90's in my gym area, but very little beyond that.
