OTC supplements can help. There's many many products with stimulants that help you lose weight and affect appetite. But they are all more or less some form of speed/stimulant and are terrible for you, bad on the heart and somewhat addictive.
You don't need them to get ripped, but they make it easier. EPhedrine, caffeine and aspirin. Working out hard and dieting for 12 weeks will get you pretty lean as long as you aren't starting out as a huge fat pig.
You will lose muscle also.
