Those were all kids fighting. I only saw a few fights in clubs. BJ used to get picked on all the time that's why he took up BJJ. One good thing though is they mostly use their fists. Unlike in other places where they use guns. Sure there are guns but compared to other places not many. Mostly because everyone only wears shorts and rarely shirts. No where to hide a gun.

Yeah, Swede seems to be obsessed with the "street fights" and cage fighters.
Thing is, many of those fights in the vids, dudes either have beef, could be over a girl, disrespect, or gang initiations, same with the girls. The girls tend to be more brutal. There are tons of "beatdown" vids, the only plus side ro me is that they are using their fists not weapons. But, you don't see the police, the arrests, and the criminal records that exist due to the fights. Nor do you see the inability to get a job due to the "guilty" charges on their records.
I'm waiting for Swede to post a vid on social issues, the sciences, or philosophy, but I gather that won't happen until he's 26-30 yrs old. Once the "fight" gets old.

The culture is different here than on the mainland. You grow up fighting here and it's no big deal. That's why they just call it "scraps." You could be playing football one minute then get into a fight the next minute and then it's back to the game. You meet some of your best friends in a fight. If it's a fair fight, and overwhelming it is, if you lose you just accept it. You don't come back with a gang with guns and knives like they do on the mainland. After you fight and get it out of your system there's a sort of mutual respect involve. Remember BJ and Pulver? Hated each other for years. I mean really, really hated each other. But after their fight it was over. They're the best of friends now. Even if you fought during school hours the teachers just broke it up but you never got in trouble or got sent to the office or anything. If it's after school they just let it go. I remember at my Catholic school there was this big play yard in the back of the kindergarten building where we'd meet after school to fight. Nobody cared. I remember getting into a scrap in the third grade right outside the church when school was getting out. Both of us were on the ground and I was holding him in a head lock. The kids going home just walked around us. Nobody even bothered to watch because we were just little kids and didn't have a rep.
Hell, I'm pushing fifty now and I had some words with a guy from another school. We decided to meet and let our fists do the talking. Even though I was over twenty years older than him I was really getting the best of him with my hands. Then we clinched and this sucker (who had a Black Belt in Judo) got a sweet hip throw on me and as he tossed me in the air he came down right on top of me and broke my ribs. Then he mounts me and starts dropping bombs and my nose starts gushing blood and my right eye swelled up so I couldn't see. I couldn't breath or lift my right hand and he eventually figured out that I couldn't defend myself anymore. And that was it. Nobody jumped in. Hell, my best friend was there but he let me take my beating as he should have. It was my choice to get into it. Now if someone jumped on someone else's back then all hell would break loose and that guy jumping in would get bum rushed and stomped to death. You can jump in to break up a fight if your guy is really taking a beating but you never ever attack someone from behind.
I admit that it's been a while since I've taken such a bad beating but it's all good. We're the best of friends now and I was even over at his house to watch the Lesnar fight.

Fair enough, but I've seen fights like this in person, and usually it's about some silly beef or perceived "disrespect", or some he said she said bs, after a while, it gets old, especially the arrest records, and not being able to get a job. And many always gotta prove themselves, and get into a fight. I'm sure there are dudes who know somebody that can't turn down a fight, and that somebody always has issues with the law, his girlfriend, his parents, society, his PO, he's always fighting somebody.
As far as the shootings and stabbings, that's more of your densely populated cities and "urban areas", and yes, many of the dudes don't know to fight, the girls do, although. But the thing is, many times if you win a fight out where I am, let's say out at the club, the loser will "pop the trunk on your ass", aka get a gun.

I got to get a video camera. I live in a rural area and you're always seeing kids in board shorts and no shirt scrapping. You drive by people's run down houses and you'll see a punching bad and mats. Since fighting is so ingrained in the culture and with BJ Penn being the only nationally recognized athlete from a State with precious few stars, it's really taken hold. Even when I was training in Cali they were already talking about Hawaii being ground zero for future MMA stars because it's right in the middle of Japan and the mainland.
I was wrestling with my friend's nine year old and the kid tried to throw a flying arm bar on me. My nephew's dad is a relative to the Penn family (his mom is cousins to BJ's mom) and now that my nephew has graduated from high school he's moving to Hilo to go to college and train a BJ's gym. My nephew got me good with a round house kick back when he was around six years old. Caught the BJJ bug at around 14 years old. Fucking kid is now living my dream living in Hilo and hanging with the BJ posse.

No we were at the beach when the argument started. I knew him previously and knew what school he trained out of because I've seen him at some of the BJJ tournaments here. That's what I like about face to face stuff. Eventually you get to say what are you doing this weekend. Lets meet at 808, bitch. Here on the internet you can mouth off like a bad ass all you want because you know you're not going to be called out.

I was at a New Year's party and an argument broke out between these two guys. Both in their early twenties. It was a good fight. Lot of back and forth. They've guys were tough and weren't giving up. Finally when one guy wins (I felt due to better conditioning than skill as the other guy I thought was sharper and knew how to get back on his feet quick after a take down). And then WTF, their fucking dads start going at it. That really got the crowd going. Fucking oldsters are throwing hands like their life depended on it. Some really good shots are landing. Just when you think one is done he just keeps going. They're just like their boys. To the death. Finally both collapse from exhaustion and when they recover they start laughing their ass off and hugging like a couple of homos and it's back to the booze.
On the mainland there would be gun fire and dead bodies and then weeks of back and forth drive bys.

It's like people who hang with Kanye (I doubt BJ has Kanye money), but not making any money, man, I rather make the dough and push the nice car and be okay. Times are hard, if your fists can make you money, by all means do it, but I see it as somewhat of a catch 22. Those who generally fight all the time got anger issues, or something to prove. If I look around and see nothing but run down houses, I want to see how to escape that, and pretty much that equals a job or education or education that leads to a job. Or athletics. I think BJ is better fighter than Lesnar, but Lesnar is a top draw, because he is physically bigger. So what does that really tell you? And one can relate that to the tiny state of Hawaii vs the bigger states. We always search for the bigger wave, so ride the wave, ride the wave.

I was in the Marines (just got out) and it was pretty normal to see a Marine walking around on base with his shit lumped up from fucking with the wrong local that past weekend. MMA is huge here, they live to fight and everybody wants to be BJ Penn lol. It looks like one of those fights was close to where I live now out in Waikiki, there are fights here EVERY weekend. Not a lot of shooting/stabbing going on though, they'll give you a fair one. People are cool for the most part, as long as you show respect it's no problem, unless you're white. Whites are hated here by many locals, my buddies catch shit all the time lol.

Why so serious, my friend. My nephew is only 18 years old and is going to college in Hilo. But you can do other things then just study. Some like to get together with friends to lift weights, or go mountain biking, or rifle shooting. My nephew likes to fight. He's living with the Penn family. How often do you get a chance to train in something you love with one of the best in the world and met some of the top fighters from all over the world?
They'll be time enough to join the rat race and live the life of the 8-5 drone.
The Penn family owns Hilo Real Estate. Money is not a problem for them even without the fortune BJ is massing. BTW, I think the Penn/GSP fight was a bigger draw than the Lesnar fight.

I always say, both from being raised in Hawaii and living on the mainland and also spending a lot of time in the South that Hawaii is the most racist state in the union. But because it's against Whites no one cares. They still have Kill Haole (white people) day in the public schools which is the day before Christmas vacation. Growing up White in Hawaii and having to go to public schools really sucks. They always get picked on and get beaten up. But some of the toughest guys on this island are those Haoles that were born and raised here.

LOL! just listened to the Joe Rogan podcast and he had mayhem there, and Mayhem was explaining that when he was in hawaii (joes friend claimed everyoen is friendly and no one fights in hawaii only in the movies) that during his and before and on his way to the MMA event to fight everyoen was screaming "Kill haole" to him lol.

Some like to get together with friends to lift weights, or go mountain biking, or rifle shooting. My nephew likes to fight. He's living with the Penn family. How often do you get a chance to train in something you love with one of the best in the world and met some of the top fighters from all over the world?
They'll be time enough to join the rat race and live the life of the 8-5 drone.
The Penn family owns Hilo Real Estate. Money is not a problem for them even without the fortune BJ is massing. BTW, I think the Penn/GSP fight was a bigger draw than the Lesnar fight.
The Hilo real estate they own in size and volume I don't think is worth as much (value wise) as they have in Waikiki. I know some of what that family owns and I won't say but it makes them a pretty powerful family in Hawaii especially Hilo. By the way, you think Hawaii loves BJ now and want to be like him. The UFC and he are partners and currently looking for a location to put up a UFC Fight Center. They actually wanted the property I had where Comp USA is across from Restaurant Row. Bishop told them they didn't want a gym there. But, they will find a location and it will be a huge hit.
Hawaii though small in size has some of the best athletes in the country. And keeping it lifting related, the Hawaii team goes to Texas for some powerlifting meet every year and they kick ass. They also have more guys who can bench 3 times their bodyweight than I have seen anywhere else.

It's those Hawaiian chants they made us sing as kids that get you riled up at an early age. On the fight video posted if you scroll to 9:29 I remember going through that number countless times. They herd you in a group like a cult and make you chant these songs that you barely know what it means. Just that we're at war. Locals here are always wearing shirts that say "Defend Hawaii." Defend them from what? The White people? If it wasn't for White Europeans we'd still be living in grass huts, wearing loin cloths and hunting pigs in the mountains with spears. Just look at some of the other islands that are more "free" like Samoa or Tonga. Still third world where in door plumbing is a luxury.

Sorry I missed this earlier. My nephew loves to fight but keeps it in the gym. He's not a street thug and never starts trouble. Sure, he's gotten into a couple of scraps like at a grad party last month where this college kid was giving him the meaningless boxing vs mma nonsense. I'm sure the guy was a good boxer but didn't get a chance to show off the fancy footwork and quick hands because of the double leg take down (my nephew also wrestled in high school while doing BJJ like they all do now).
He loves to train and it kept him away from drugs and out of trouble during his teen years.
But he doesn't drink

I did too when i was younger and then met some guys who had been stationed there. They said that the locals didn't take too kindly to the mainlanders and had no problem throwing down. I guess they were right.
