Post by: slippediskmountian on March 01, 2006, 07:04:42 AM
yesterday we did alot of takedowns in class and had single matches in front of the class at the end(jimmy via rnc btw!) ... it was this one guys first class and he was going against a teenager ... guy suplexed the kid and ko'd him ... when he came to he didnt even know how he got to class and he couldnt remember what we practiced

any of you seen any crazy/stupid accidents in class?

Nope, but at my club we never spar on the feet.  Just start on the knees.  Reduces the likelyhood you'll get hurt.

We start from the feet in wrestling class (obviously) and closer to tourneys we start on the feet in the advanced class. We have a guy who was third in Canada teaching us wrestling, quick little bugger.

even though starting from the standing position increases risk of injury your game will get much better in the long run, trust me.i was taking judo 2wice aweek along with my jiu jitsu and it helped big time from the clinch

We do stand up in class (drill style), but i'm personally finding my body more suited to wrestling takedowns than judo ones.  Not sure why, they just seem more intuitive.

thats cool,do what works best for your bodytype and what you feel more comfortable doing, greco roman wrestling takedowns are similar to judo takedowns imo

Accidents happen.  But if that guy keeps hurting people, your instructor is going to have to kick his ass out.  A guy like that can ruin a school.  Accidents during standup takedowns can be minimized by paring similar weight guys. The body weight is a dangerous thing, especially if you outweigh the other guy by 50-75 lbs.

I never spar with a newbi. They will hurt you almost all the time. You fell bad for the new guy so you let him take your back, or put you in a triangle choke next thing you know your out because they get to excited. IMO if your new take the instruction side for at least 2 months to get the hang of it
