Newt Gingrich off on 2-week vacation
« on: June 05, 2011, 09:17:06 PM »

After two weeks on the campaign trail, Newt Gingrich has had enough — for now.

Following a bumpy debut as an official candidate which included fumbling an answer about his support for House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan and a report that he carried as much as $500,000 in “revolving charge account” at luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co, the former House speaker has set off for a vacation with his wife Callista.

240's very concerned about the debt. The fact that his posts comprise 75% of the last 5 pages worth of posts on the "Birther" thread is nothing more than a Republican conspiracy designed to discredit his "criticism" of Obama.

Luxury cruise, nice!    Will he drop out of the race when he gets back to avoid that pesky 30-day rule?

Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich vanished from the campaign trail last week for a holiday on a luxury cruise liner among the Greek isles.

His whereabouts since since his last public appearance on May 27th have been a closely guarded secret. It was described by his aides only as a much-needed vacation with his wife, Callista, and unrelated to his campaign's rocky start.

But a participant in a discussion board for cruise enthusiasts blew the Gingriches' cover this morning, naming them among notable guests on the Seabourn Odyssey. (The other was the '70s fashion icon Twiggy.)

Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler emailed, "αριθ. Σχ?λιο," which is Greek for "no comment."

Yes.  Yes he will.

If he does drop out, Rachel maddow will have been 100% right that he wanted nothing more than to raise an assload of $ and never run.  He'll work to dodge that 30-day financial disclosure rule.  Watch and see.  Whatever happened the day he came back, his entire staff quit on one day.  What's that tell ya?

The sad campaign of the fat, immoral douchebag hits yet another snag.  :P

Gingrich senior aides resign
By Chris Cillizza and Karen Tumulty

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign imploded Thursday afternoon with virtually his entire senior staff leaving en masse, according to multiple sources familiar with the moves.

“When the campaign and the candidate disagree on the path, they’ve got to part ways,” said Rick Tyler a longtime Gingrich spokesman who was among those who left the campaign today.

Tyler as well as Rob Johnson, Gingrich’s campaign manager, Dave Carney and Katon Dawson, senior strategists to the effort and media consultant Sam Dawson have all stepped aside. Much of his early state operation was also headed for the exits, according to a one senior campaign source.

Several sources said the mass resignation came at a meeting Thursday in Gingrich’s Washington office.

Among the issues was the two week vacation that Gingrich and his wife, Calista, insisted upon taking against the advice of his top political staff. Coming as it did after one of the most disastrous campaign launches in recent memory, it raised questions as to whether Gingrich would be willing to “commit time to the grassroots,” said Tyler.

Gingrich had returned earlier this week and visited New Hampshire but remained largely off the campaign trail.

Carney and Johnson are longtime aides to Texas Gov. Rick Perry who has said in recent days that he is contemplating a run for president himself in 20120. The Carney and Johnson resignations will fuel speculation that Perry is moving toward the race.

It’s not clear how — or whether — Gingrich will remain in the race.

Newt Gingrich's top aides resign en masse
By Tom Hamburger

Only weeks old, Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign is on life support following the mass departure of his entire senior staff.

Craig Schoenfeld, the former House speaker's top Iowa adviser, told close associates he planned to resign because lack of commitment from Gingrich to pursuing a "path to victory" including rigorous grassroots campaigns in Iowa, South Carolina, and New Hampshire and an ambitious fundraising schedule.

Longtime spokesman Rick Tyler had also indicated earlier in the week to a campaign associate that he would be departing from the campaign.

Other reports also include campaign adviser Rob Johnson, strategists Sam Dawson and Dave Carney, and South Carolina adviser Katon Dawson among the aides who are moving on.

Problems for Gingrich's presidential ambitions emerged from the outset, but reached a crisis inside the campaign last week when the candidate disappeared with his wife on what was described as a "long planned vacation."  . . . http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-gingrich-campaign-20110609,0,7972467.story

Gingrich campaign finance team quits
 Source: Associated Press

The top fundraisers for Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign have abandoned his struggling bid amid anemic fundraising and heavy spending.

Campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond is confirming to The Associated Press that fundraising director Jody Thomas and fundraising consultant Mary Heitman have left the team.
