I never got that swimmer meme. Comparing a multi Mr. Olympia winner to a swimmer. Compare Zane to the two greatest swimmers of all time. I just don't see it.

BUT  by himself in certain poses zane is pure perfection. Thats why people have a hard time saying he deserved to be mr olympia. i believe he deserved his victories due to the fact that there were not any real competitors   that gave him any real threat in 77 78 or even 79. However 1980 there was and zane wasnt at his best. I believe he ( or walker)  deserved second.  Dickerson shouldnt of been in the top 6.

robby was a great bodybuilder BUT he always blew it at mr olympia time. he could never get it together ( although in his defense he was very ill with the flu in 78 i believe it was) mentzer well he just never had it to begin with. wasnt a bad bodybuilder but no real threat to zane.  frank knew exactly how to dial it in.  plus in that era they ( the ifbb) wanted bb to go mainstream and a frank zane look appealed to almost everyone. it was acheivable by most ( or so they thought) so the powers that be wanted that look to sell mags supps equipment etc.  again i am no fan of zane BUT he was the best in 77 78 79 and i also think in 76 too.  after arnold won in 80 and franco in 81 the ifbb didnt know which direction to take it.  hard to reward it to the little guy (but more complete) because by then people were looking for mass monsters again. so they tried (with dickerson and samir) to keep it achievable by the masses but it just didnt work. so after that they threw that plan away and started going toward mass. and now look where it is today. big bloated big gutted 300 lb slobs. people dont understand bodybuilding was an art. sculpter. not just getting huge. balance synnetry proportion and great posing. the total package. guys nowdays cant pose they eiother look like they are constipated or have their stupid tongue hanging out. smh

No competition? He beat the best bodybuilders in the IFBB during his 3 year win - Robby, Roy Callender, Kal Szkalak, Roger Walker, Dennis Tinerino, Ken Waller, Mike Mentzer, Danny Padilla, Chris Dickerson, Boyer Coe, Ed Corney, Mohamed Makkawy and others. In those days, there were always more competitors in the Under 200 Pound Class and Zane never looked small onstage in that division. It was a different time and he looked fantastic onstage. I saw all three of his wins from 1977-79 and I thought he deserved them all.

did you even read my post? i said he deserved his 77 78 and 79 wins and maybe should of won in 76 too. when i said there was no real competition i didnt mean that the guys were not great bodybuilders just that they didnt compare to zane.  yes the under 200 lb class was full of awesome bodybuilders but they didnt really have a chance against zane. the over 200 only had 2 or 3 or 4 guys and really only robby stood a chance but he never could dial it in. zane was kinda unique. he was 5ft 9 ish and 185 to 190 for shows. most guys at that time was  very short(under 5ft 7)  to be under 200lbs.  he knew he couldnt bulk up so he did the best with what he had. he was a thinking mans bodybuilder.. i actually thought he looked better in i think 83 or 84.or maybe 85 he filled out was over 200 lbs i believe but still had awesome symmetry ( maybe even better).  the guys then all looked healthy balanced and exactly how its supposed to be. they busted their asses in the gym posed beautifully and didnt have roid guts ( except mentzer he seemed to be the first one to get it ) but then again he started using insulin after he learned from tim belknap how to. tim was a diabetic. in fact mentzer switched his diet around after he started insulin. he went to a high carb low protein diet for shows.   not much was known about insulin then.

Yes, that's a good point. But when I was told that Zane weighed only about 185-190 lbs when he won the Olympia I was surprise how well he stood up standing next to Mentzer, Cole, and Robby. He had a very balance and appealing physique but in my subjective opinion, during his era, 77,78,79 I thought Robby had more of a freak factor and more becoming of a Mr. Olympia.

Dicksuckerson was a manho.  He made gay porn and I have zero doubts was gifted his Olympia because he smoked wang like the Marloboro man smoked cigarettes.   He is the WORST Olympia winner of all time.  Even crummier than Phildo the Dildo Heath and I despise Heath no end.

Even worse than Franco '81.  Padilla made Dickerson look like the ambulatory pile of shit he was and still they gave it to that fucking buttslut Dicksuckerson.   He was to train at a gym I used in the 80s and one of the employees told me that Chris wasn't just gay, but a total fucking anal vacuum kind of gay and he wasn't beneath dropping hints like bars of soap in a jailhouse shower. 

I stayed out of the gym that day as I didn't want to put up with that shit and I would not have.

In the early 80's there was a fitness show on network TV that was usually on late afternoon. Can't recall the name. Zane was on it and gave exercise tips and workout programs. I was taken aback at how big and perfect he looked. Some swimmer, lol

Absolutely, I was about to write this.
It really helped him on stage, he was the widest among them all.
His relatively weak bodypart was his strong point that year, he really is smart, he was lighter and relatively smaller but he came dry and with the help of fuller delts his large frame crushed his apponents.
