It means the youngsters don't want to step onstage. How many times have we seen the winners of the Nationals, the USA, or the North American take a eyar or two off, before actually stepping onstage?

It means that young people today knows better than to waste money and health to become a pro bodybuilder

better crop of pros in the 90's.

This is true.
The IFBB have a clever marketing strategy for ensuring that the future growth of their sport is secure.
Apparently, their research told them that young men are inspired to develop bellies and pretend they are living the thug life.
-
Interesting. Bodybuilding always had younger people in the past, I don't know why the old men are prevalent nowadays.
I bet the Olympia has similar statistics. I think it at least partly has something to do with the "pay your dues" mentality where young unknowns always gets shafted at their first try, no matter how good they look in favor for bodybuilders the judges know, like Warren Brunch.

Levrone 27 in 96 ::)

I would like to take a more cynical look and say, that pros in the 2000's have a better understanding of how to take drugs for more years without killing themselves.
Is this completely wrong?

well, no...it seems as though the ones competing today either started late, or didnt look good beforehand...remember there were several that won their Pro Cards on the first try, namely Richard Jones and Phil Heath, which of all the USA and Nats and North American winners from 2000-2012, looked the best. And that is saying something about the drugs, and genetic pool of the competitors.
-
They are giving out more pro cards than ever, yet no young guys are competing. They almost need an under 30 division. It would help change the look of what's onstage closer what we use to see. Getting more genetically gifted guys turning pro wouldn't hurt either.
-

Yep... allowing 'the size game' to dominate everything means these new pros will place 14th if they enter. So they dont bother.
ANd that goes down to the amateur ranks too... Rarely do we see a guy win his pro card at 21 anymore. They're all 30 when they turn pro.
-
Takes a long time to get that densely developed. The young guys all needed a "break". Please.
-
Who are these youngsters ?
McCarver, Kulco, Valliant, just to name a few.
As I said, the winners of the Nationals, North American, and the USA. (Valliant won the Canadian Nationals).
Evan Centopani (2007 National champion)took a year and half off, before competing as a pro.

They weren't doing that, who won the Nationals, USA, or North American?
