If you're new to the sport of power-lifting/strength-training, http://www.startingstrength.com/index.html, you may want to consider this book by Mark Rippetoe (www.amazon.com has it as well). It focuses on five primary lifts: squat, deadlift, bench press, overhead press, power clean. It's clearly the best resource I've ever seen for beginners and it's a very good review for intermediate or advanced lifters. I was surprised that the section on Squats encompasses about 50 pages, all of it very relevant and although somewhat scientific at places, it's an easy read. Plus, the added humor in the book keeps it interesting.

The author also does a fine job of distinguishing between strength-lifting and power-lifting and how they correlate to each other.

The only way to make the book more effective would be to include an accompanying DVD but...if you float to this page,
http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html#Power, you can find short video clips of the author presenting during a seminar. It's really excellent (free) information...

Here's another very good site with short video training clips, useful if you occasionally incorporate olympic lifts into your powerlifting routine(s) to build power and speed:
