programs like vnc are totally useless nowadays unless you wanna spy the other machine or need to remotely change configs and stuff
If you need regular usage, just sync your machines on the cloud. Its 2013 for christs sake
The year has little to do with it.
There's a bunch of reasons you'd rather log onto a remote PC rather than share data.
I use dropbox to synch my files, which is fine for documents. I also have certain applications I only use on 1 PC, even when I travel. Those apps run 24x7 as does my home machine which is in a dedicated environment with UPS and redundant networok. It collects real-time market data 24x5 which is impossible with the machine you carry with you.
Some things can't be "synched to the cloud"....
