Is he better? Absolutely. But that physique would not be valued today. They would mark him down for small legs and not being dry enough. :-[

I don't think that Lee was overrated but perhaps at least one Mr. Olympia should have gone to someone else - in 1987 I would have gone with Rich Gaspari.

Haney is clearly a more complete bodybuilder than any of today's top pros. Under current conditions, viz. gear, he certainly would be Mr. O.

You could argue that Lee is the most underrated Mr. Olympia of all time. 8 Olympia wins and he looked his best in his last contest, the '91 Olympia. He and Yates would have made and incredible rivalry in '92 & '93.

I was thinking the exact same thing, how even though he won 8 Sandows, he seems to be forgotten about, because of Yates and Coleman. The man was 5'11"-6'0" (taller than both Yates and Coleman) and was a 260 pound guy, who always came in 250 pounds + in competition. Rock hard solid chest made out of granite, incredible traps, very impressive back/lats, very decent legs (FAR BETTER than someone like Wheeler or later day Levrone). He had a TINY waist, GREAT ABS and one of the best vacuums and for such a big guy. NEVER sported a gut, YET, he is overrated? BULLSHIT!

Exactly, but people want to see veinless guys like Jay Cutler with a 50" waist and oil all over the place. No thanks. Haney had SIZE and CLASS.

if i could have any build ever, besides steve reeves it would be '91 haney, huge in the right places but still looked like he could play sports and be a normal active human.

His chest outdistanced his arms, his arms were too small, if you see the Olympia vids you notice how small his arms were compared to his torso...look like they belonged on a smaller bber...best of both world's would Flex's or Phil Heath's arms and his chest.

Plus, Lee was 32 when he retired with 8 Sandows. Today we talk about how guys don't even have muscle maturity at 32. And one of the reasons Lee hung it up when he did was because he saw what the next generation was up to. He wasn't willing to go there. Imagine if he did though.

sure with his physique of 1991 he cant win today.. it's nearly 20 years difference!!.. but he has better genetics than jay, kai, dex .. etc so i believe if he was 20 years younger he could win the olympia now!.. imo lee had no CLEAR weak points!!..
see how ronnie looked like in 1992 then how he looked like in 1998!!..

Going by how contests are judged today and what physiques are awarded with the Mr. O title, he could not win.
Should he win if he competed? Absolutely!
I thought everything was going to change when Dexter won last in 2008, but unfortunately it didn't happen.
And Lee Haney was not overrated at all, plus he had such class, pleasing physique, etc.
