I went to the Black Lace website. Now I get why you like them.
A girlfriend turned me on to them {no pun intended} We were discussing a romance novel written by a mutual friend, and I mentioned how annoyed I was when it really got going and then like some 30's movie... it would 'fade to black'. She laughed wickedly and sugggested I pick up a Black Lace novel. I had never heard of them before, and asked her what was so special about them. She just laughed and said check it out. So one day while down at 'World's Biggest Bookstore', I happen to see a Black Lace novel. I read the back cover, and it seemed an interesting enough plot, and since I was in a rush... without giving it much though I grabbed it.
A few days later, I sat down and proceeded to read it.
Needless to say... I've since picked up a few more titles... they can be a little addictive. I'd thought she was just joking when she told me they were graphic, ...I had
NO IDEA just how explicit they were.
I just wish there was some way to know in advance what kind of depravity could be found in there before you buy the book though. Some of the plot lines seem really good then there's something in there that is just a little too shocking if ya know what I mean.
I've always been partial to historical romance. Kathleen Windsor's Forever Amber has to be the best ever written.
Ya I much prefer the historical ones much more than the contemporary or futuristic ones.
For some reason I've always found the contemporary ones to be lacking somehow. The historical ones have the ability to paint much more vivid pictures and to engage the imagination & the senses much more than the contemporaries. Maybe it's because there aren't as many rules that have to be followed I suppose. They could paint pictures of life in 20 BC or 16th century France, or some remote Tahitian island any way they want. Although I know alot of historical authors will strive for technical accuracy. Personally, I think for many of them, the quest for technical accuracy is simply an excuse to take a tax deductible vacation traipsing around Europe visiting old castles, majestic countrysides, or other exotic locations. Who can blame them?
