You mean with space for cardio equipment and weights on the side?

One room 6 x 6 with mirrors floor to ceiling should be sufficient for these 'enthusiasts'. As long as they have enough space to pat eachother on the back and look in the mirror you should be good to go.

Serious question

It depends on what you want to do, so it can't really be answered. Like the first respondent said, if you plan to do rope climbs, you are gonna need 20' ceilings. I have roughly a 15' x 15' space in my basement and I can get most crossfitty things done. I have to be careful with the pull up bar that I don't smash my head on the ceiling.

That sounds more than sufficient. What kind of hybrid are you thinking about? My friend Shane Sweatt and his wife Laura have grafted Louis Simmons' Westside "Conjugate" powerlifting method onto Crossfit.

funny that they don't credit chris mason for this, considering he's the one who came up with it.

I would say just a bit bigger than that so they have room to stagger around trying to lift weights that are far too heavy for them.

Zero sq ft would work just fine for a crossfit.

There are some people here that were running out of  strip mall. They were making enough to move out and build a crazy nice place in a cheap spot. Completely brand new, garage door and all. Don't know about the tires being new.  ;D

60% of Crossfit gyms are #2000 or under, the original one was a bit over #2000.  The larger ones are #4500 - 5000, and the very largest are #10000 or over.

I have about 12500 for standard gym and 1200 for crossfit.

if just doing crossfit or functional cross training, i'd just have a 1200 sq foot storefront. put mirrors on all the walls, rubber flooring, a stip of turf to push/pull sleds, pullup bars/1/2 racks built off the walls, ect...

these are cash-cows. it's hard to turn a profit in a regular gym just selling memberships to cover overhead, and your PT sales are the gravy/profit.

reg gym = 10k ft at least, plus equipment that runs 200k min (lease or finance), plus your electric and water and insurance. you're lookin at least 60k/month overhead. charge 20-30$/month

crossfit gym = 1-2k ft.. as low as $.40/sq foot rent. 4 cages, 8 bars, plates ect... you can equip a crossfit place for less than 15k and just pay a couple instructors. charge 100-150$/month

Forget the Crossfit gym. Just build a sports rehab clinic near a group of cross fit gyms. Serious answer, check the top crossfit gyms on youtube.
