He isn't wrong. It's calories in and calories out. Guys lose weight on low carb diets because they are eating less calories. Also, the lower carbs make you lose water. Ask yourself if you went on a low carb diet but increased your calories by 500 a day would you lose weight?

I believe you could still change your bodies composition,  even with a surplus. The problem with the calorie is a calorie theory is it doesn't take into account hormonal changes due to diet and insulin sensitivity. A diet full of breads, sugars, starches etc will leave you looking like a mashed potato. You're not going to recupe and grow on a diet without some protein. A 'calorie is a calorie' is not accurate at all. Then there's issues like inflammation and gut health which are affected by what kinds of calories you're consuming.

I don´t agree because obviously some food sources are not going to make you unhealthy & some are known to do the opposite.
Eat shit you´ll look like it.. skin tone complection, etc
Eat a bad diet & juice... eventually a heart attack

It doesn´t matter who you like or dislike, all of them took drugs & other things.
By all accounts he had bad problems but he did open peoples eyes to another way of training & he built a great physique  ;)

He built his physique using conventional methods, not hit. And yes, his dietary recommendations are ludicrous. It left him fat and sloppy looking.

And the lower carbs lowers one's insulin levels, hence less fat is acumulated.

A calorie is a calorie:
A unit of energy, often used to express the nutritional value of foods, equivalent to the heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water by 1 °C, and equal to one thousand small calories; a kilocalorie.

However, the nutritional value of the food eaten is where the real differences between  different foods is the value I think most of us are speaking about.  If you ate 10,000 calories a day of "clean" food and did nothing but lounge about in your toga, you would still get FAT as if you ate 10,000 calories a day of junque food.

So yes.  A calorie is pretty much a calorie but what you do with it along with its nutrional value is what makes the difference.  Like all things there is a balance in eating to be individually determined.  For a healthier life one should eat a balanced diet and avoid junqe foods as much as possible.

I would say it´s more a case of what it does to your body inside :) not just outside

CICO is valid only when hormones are controlled. Since the "CO" part of the equation is tightly linked to an extremely complex system of hormones individuals can never accurately assess this energy balance unless hormones are controlled. Hormones are directly affected by food quality and quantity. There are people gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time, due to injecting hormones. This should indicate that hormones have a far more powerful impact on body composition than caloric balance. But endocrinology is extremely poorly understood and one of the youngest anatomical sciences so this is to be expected.

Dr Ben Bikman did a very good lecture on CICO on youtube but I can't seem to find it. But essentially the Layne Norton type of fixation on a reductionist idea of counting calories being all that matters is stupid.

Mentzer on meth. Consume all the amphetamines you want. You'll be ripped to shreds. You can eat whatever you want, you'll just never want to eat.
