Hey babes,

What are your feelings about being in a relationship that has reached its year anniversary and getting a 'promise ring' as an aniversary gift ?? Is this common ?

Ive had a friend that has given out 4 "promise rings" in 5 years. Once it was because he was caught cheating on his girl so he gave her one. Kind of like a smaller scale kobe.

I guess I'm not sure what a Promise Ring means.  Does it mean you promise to marry her?  IMO if you hand a girl a ring box or even a ring, she may think you're proposing and when you then call it a promise ring, there may be some trouble :P

...........unless you've talked about a promise ring together and she knows that's what her ring is from the start.

I think the term is the modern day "going steady"... equivalent to her wearing my "pin".

Yeah I think JJ has it right. I have never given any kind of ring except for earings, but i think its like a commitment ring.

So it just means you and her are exclusive?  Of course you can both just verbally agree to this but I think that's kind of sweet that the ring is a symbol of your fidelity.

But I think you should tell her you want to give her a "promise ring" before giving it to her or she may think you are giving her an engagement ring.

But with the engagement ring you go through the speech and the one knee. I think the promise ring is less dramatic.

I think I would like it, depending on the ring...any pictures?

Oh and an explanation at the time of giving would be a good thing

Next time i take my girl to a restaurant, i'll get down on my knee, take out a ring.

And promise not to fart in bed ever again.

it used to be, you got pinned

then you got a promise ring

then you got an engagement ring...this is the point of no return, you'd lose face after that.  YOu set the date with the engagement ring, the promise ring just means exclusivity, not marrage

This husband (i've had one other ;D) is the only guy in my life to have bought me a so called "promise ring"...a few months later i got the engagement ring and it was beautiful. When we got married we had a duplicate of the promise ring made and that's what he put on my finger at the wedding. I say promise rings are just fine...plus this guy is a keeper!!!!!
