Post by: Princess L on February 16, 2011, 07:55:27 PM
Inspired by MCWAY who is Getbig's GNC bargain shopper, I thought it would be fun to post your latest bargain.

Let's keep this ongoing.

I once had a job "sourcing".  I was between proper jobs and was paid to shop for TV commercials and pop videos.  I'd go borrow and fetch a pink Fender guitar.  I had to know where to go.

In NYC we called it Louis XIV street...

I've just bought what I can only describe as the most incredible pair of specs.  On eBay, for £8 plus P&P.  It's my birthday soon and I watched these for a week, bid lots and bought them.  They were delivered yesterday and I honestly think they're the most beautiful things I've ever purchased.  They're like 50 years old, unworn and in perfect nick.  Kinda purpley lilac marbley plastic with gorgeous ornate flowers in chrome.  They're truly awesome.  Rather eveningy, not daytime.  A fab find.

LOving the footwear, I've got similar slip-ons.

Wasn't sure about the frilly top, thought you were having us on?  Is it a pic of like a rhinestone reclining female?

I don't do t-shirts with pix or words on them, you'd have to pay me to be your logo.  Nice though, suits you, where will you wear it?

I got a pair similar to this for £1 at Oxfam and threw them in the washing machine.  I've had them years.

I wear them in the back garden or taking the rubbish out front.  Mine are green with a pink sole.  You can move the sling back bit up and over.  They're terribly trendy at Festivals...

It's cute, but it's still a glorified T-shirt.  The reg. $ would have to be $25 and then marked down from there to be a "bargain" IMO  ;D  Like Lucky Brand shirts; Love 'em, but they're WAY overpriced.

There's nothing I can do about stuff made in China.  I can't afford not to buy it.  4 pairs of cotton socks for £1?  At that price I don't need to pay for the electric machine to wash them in, I'll just go buy more and use the previous purchase for dusters or floor polishers...

Not sure how much longer this conspicuous consumption will last for.  It's madness.

I was traipsing through stationery shops looking for staples for my old stapler.  Couldn't find them for less than £3.50.  So then I'm in the Poundland getting a pink plastic bowl and I see a new stapler with 1000 staples for £1.  Doubt it'll last long and I hate the fact that it will end up in landfill and is unrecyclable, but hey.

When I can, I buy lovely old well-made stuff which will last forever.

I thought it would be fun to post your latest bargain.

Let's keep this ongoing.

Today I hit the poundshop and the charity shops up the Kilburn High Road.  I bought a £1 disposable BBQ (this in February (plus 12 sausages at the supermarket, now I'm ready for a garden party) !  Yes, possibly a totally ridiculous daft panic buy, but they won't have £1 BBQ's in a flammable bag next week will they, they'll all be sold out.

I bought a 50p shot glass in Oxfam, it's from Las Vegas 60s or 70s and has transfer pix of multi coloured poker chips all over and is perfect kitch.

Also (this is my best buy, I looked at every shelf of books in every Charity Shop), I bought a paperback book for 50p at the Cancer Research Charity, the Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera and I've not even seen the movie yet, so I'm very much looking forward to this novel.

why isn't this on our Girly Thread (we'd keep it going there...

Today I bought an 80 or 100-year old piece of laboratory glass which they were selling in the Charity Shop with plastic flowers in it for £4.

it's like more than 2 foot tall, I'll use it as a vase?  I had one 10 years ago which a Science Teacher mate of mine gave to me when they were selling off the schools, which I broke, so I'm extremely pleased to find another at such a silly bargain price.

White Duvet Cover for your down duvet.

Some throw pillows (or not) that match some of the decor.

Well i was looking at some white sheets as well as some coffee colored ones.  Is a duvet cover what you put the blankiet in?  I'm looking at some stuff on jcpenny.  So my room is mostly browns in color. I have pine (light) panels in my room so I was thinking something along the country club color/ralph lauren style.  I dunno

Yes, Duvet cover is what you put your duvet in (often a feather filled duvet).

I just prefer the white bedding....sort of a nice hotel look.

i like the white look too.  I don't have a down comofrter/duvet thingy.  I generally get hot at night so i have a thinner blanket on the bed.  I did buy a bed fan though.  I'll set that up soon.  It blows air under the sheets!

figured you'd like the name.  I think it is nice though.  It's been hard to find a set that actually is masculine and not ugly

It's really nice.

As long as the puppet approves.

nope basic black suit, solid no pattterns.  Very men in black

$350 but got it for $129
, used the gift card the company gave me so I spent none of my money

Good bargain!

Yes, Duvet cover is what you put your duvet in (often a feather filled duvet).

I just prefer the white bedding....sort of a nice hotel look.

It would be white for a hot minute around here  ::)

Migs can't have white either cuz he eats in bed  :o

i like the white look too.  I don't have a down comofrter/duvet thingy.  I generally get hot at night so i have a thinner blanket on the bed.  I did buy a bed fan though.  I'll set that up soon.  It blows air under the sheets!

That looks like an interesting gadget.

I would like to test one ... I really don't understand how it works if you are under a blanket .. is it noisy at all ?

the pic is decieving.  it goes under the blanket and blows the air.  Not really noisy though.  there are multiple strength settings too

Glad to see you've kept this thread going (albeit somewhat boyishly with the speedo pants) ...I bought yesterday at a car boot sale a full set of six little glass dessert bowls and a large bowl and a big jug all matching (from the 1950's, no chips or cracks, and the little bowls are like sundae glasses, with stems) for 3 quid.  I'll have to buy some Pimms darling for cocktails, either that or make a trifle.

Migs:  regarding bedding?  I prefer nice sheets and a blanket.  It's just easier to calculate and control your sleeping temperature (cooler in summer and warmer when needed and less like work?)

All those matching duvets and duvet covers are troublesome, I find...

A really nice woolly blanket, the kind you'll buy once and have forever, or a knitted throw (in winter) atop a clean white sheet is so easy.
