Who's still using protein powders?
« on: March 21, 2019, 08:53:45 AM »
I know they kind of fell out of favor a little while back, with the "whole foods are superior" argument.  I had bought into that too but protein powders are just so damn convenient.  It's kinda hard to consistently get a lot of protein in without protein shakes.  All that cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, lugging around tupperwares ... no thanks.

Right now I get about 100g of protein from shakes every day.  2 shakes w 2 scoops a piece.  Add to that some eggs and a little bit of meat and I'm right at about 200g protein.

What about the rest of Getbig?

Never really liked protein powders. If you're only doing it for convenience then surly protein bars would be the way to go.

I get about a 1/3 from protein powders. Usually in the morning, and right after lifting mixed with milk. I don't like having a heavy meal first thing in the morning, so it works well that way. One thing I don't bother with is chasing the newest most fancy ones, I just buy on taste, manufacturer, and cost.

Same jug has been under my counter for many years. When I want a shake I mainly do something like:

Milk
Couple raw eggs
Olive oil
blueberries
Oatmeal powder I grind in the coffee grinder (from real oats)
Flax seeds
Wheat germ
Creatine (since I got that shit in the cupboard also)
Teddy (Natty) peanut butter
Scoop of frozen yogurt to have it like a milkshake.

Dont really need the powders to have a good shake w/ 20+ grams of protein.

When you're competing it's different as you are spreading out your meals to 6 or 8 feedings.

I never used to, but I'm using a lot of whey protein lately and also some high-protein meal replacement shakes.

It's hard to get the protein up with regular food and feels heavier on my digestion to eat that much solid food.

Why do you need a high protein diet?

How much protein do you think is needed?

I go for 200g or so, which I think is reasonable.  I've tried doing less, like 75-100g/day but it impacted my recovery and growth.

I never used to, but I noticed a difference since I started increasing my protein.

As bullshit as protein powders are, REAL food is bullshit too. "All natural" with all kinds of preservatives and chemicals, "whole wheat" which is wheat flour, stripped of all good fiber and nurtrients, the whole organic scam, "made with real chicken"(is it chicken?)

Unless you seriously are buying all raw food and preparing and cooking it(even then its not certain), dont think whatever youre eating is any less bullshit than a protein powder.

Yes.

In all those years at Golds Gym Venice, being right there in the mix.  Seeing every bodybuilder who was ever anybody...

Not one single bodybuilder I ever knew, and I knew all of them... did not use protein sups.

They work. Protein drinks, shakes, powders work.
