My son-in-law was stationed at Fort Bliss, in El Paso for a few years. He says that workers and students cross the bridges between El Paso and Juárez in droves everyday.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-northkorea-usa-remains/remains-of-us-war-dead-being-returned-from-north-korea-trump-idUSKBN1JH2J0

“And I understand ... that they’ve already sent back or are in the process of sending back the remains of our great heroes who died in North Korea during the war,” Trump said at a Cabinet meeting.

Trump, who met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at an historic summit in Singapore earlier this month, said on Wednesday the remains of 200 American servicemen had been sent back.

The American economy is stronger than ever six months after tax cuts

Six months ago today, President Trump signed into law the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, historic legislation which streamlined our tax code and offered much-needed tax relief to the American people. Since passage of the bill, the once-in-a-generation tax overhaul championed by President Trump and Republicans in Congress has already provided numerous benefits and an even brighter future for the American people. Gone is the outdated system that took too much of our money, sent our jobs overseas and stagnated our economy.

Americans are now seeing thousands of dollars in tax relief and bigger paychecks. Middle-class families are benefitting from a doubling of the standard deduction and child tax credit. Lower taxes on businesses of all sizes are stimulating our economy, and Americans are feeling the effects of a reinvigorated economy.

More than four million Americans are receiving bonuses, benefit increases and higher wages from hundreds of companies, totaling some $4 billion back into working-class Americans’ pockets. Companies like Apple, Comcast, Boeing, and Bank of America have given workers across the country bonuses, in addition to pledging new investments into the American economy. Many more small businesses have done the same in their communities by growing their operations and hiring more people.

Trump's poll numbers are surging as he faces some of the biggest controversies of his presidency

President Donald Trump has faced intense, sustained media and political backlash to his immigration policies.

But amid the controversies, Trump's approval is near a high at 45%.

That's about as good as Barack Obama was doing at this stage in his presidency.

Many in the US don't trust the media, potentially explaining why the outrage on news programs hasn't shown up in polling.

Supreme Court gives Trump the win on Travel Ban!
« on: Today at 06:37:01 AM »

The main reason I voted for Trump was his Supreme Court Judge pick to replace Scalia:

Supreme Court rules for Trump in challenge to his administration's travel ban

The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday in favor of President Donald Trump in Trump v. Hawaii, the controversial case regarding concerning Trump's September order to restrict travel to the U.S. for citizens of several majority Muslim countries.

In the 5-4 opinion penned by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court found that Trump's immigration restriction fell "squarely" within the president's authority. The court rejected claims that the ban was motivated by religious hostility.

The Supreme Court has just upheld Trump’s travel ban, giving Trump the final victory on this issue:

#SCOTUS holds ban is within president's authority under immigration laws and challengers are unlikely to prevail on establishment clause claim because the ban is justified by legitimate national-security concerns

Well I don’t think this is a surprise to any of us, as the court always seemed to side with the Trump administration on this issue.

Roberts, Kennedy, Gorsuch, Alito, and Thomas all ruled in the majority.

‘Deeply Disappointed’: Ellison, CAIR React To SCOTUS Upholding Travel Ban
WCCO.com ^ | 6/26/18 | WCCO Staff
Posted on 6/26/2018, 1:37:33 PM by ButThreeLeftsDo

Rep. Keith Ellison and the Council of America-Islamic Relations (CAIR) are quickly reacting after the Supreme Court voted to uphold President Trump’s travel ban Tuesday.

The 5-4 decision Tuesday is the court’s first substantive ruling on a Trump administration policy. Trump tweeted “Wow!” after the decision.

Not long after the decision, CAIR, which is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, announced it will be holding a news conference at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. There will also be a rally at 6 p.m. held in Minneapolis in front of the federal court house, protesting the decision.

Rep. Keith Ellison also released a statement, saying he’s “deeply disappointed that this ruling gives legitimacy to discrimination and Islamophobia.”

Ellison spoke with WCCO’s Esme Murphy on Facebook Live shortly after the decision.

“This decision is outside of the consensus that we have as Americans that people have the right to be whatever faith they want to be,” Ellison said.

Ellison says, despite what the policy is called, it’s really a Muslim ban.

“What the Supreme Court has said is, ‘as long as you put a thin vainer of national security over the most discriminatory policy, we’ll buy it,’” Ellison said. “Essentially they’ve said, ‘as long as you put lipstick on that pig, we’ll just call it something else.’”

Ellison says the travel ban is a big factor in his recent decision to run as Attorney General for Minnesota.

“I know that this decision will meet the dust bin of history, just like all those other nasty, ugly decisions [by the Supreme Court],” Ellison said.

Senate hopeful Karin Housley issued a statement also Tuesday morning, saying: “Today’s Supreme Court rulings are a victory for the rule of law and the constitution – but also highlight the importance of the upcoming elections. Over the next several years, the U.S. Senate will likely confirm one or more justices to the Supreme Court, and with such a narrow Senate majority, November’s elections may be among the most consequential in our lifetime. We cannot allow far-left radicals like Tina Smith to pick our next Supreme Court justice – and as a United States Senator, I will advocate for Supreme Court justices that respect our constitution and uphold our rule of law. At this critical juncture in our nation’s history, adherence to our constitution has never been more important; our freedoms, our safety, and our security as a nation depends on it.”

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, joined by his four conservative colleagues. Roberts wrote that presidents have substantial power to regulate immigration.

Supreme Court rules non-union workers cannot be forced to pay fees to public sector unions
The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Wednesday in Janus v. AFSCME that non-union workers cannot be forced to pay fees to public sector unions.
The case concerns whether public employees can be forced to pay so-called "agency fees" to fund the work of public sector unions.
Experts said that a holding in favor of Janus would be the most significant court decision affecting collective bargaining rights in decades.

Plaintiff Mark Janus passes in front of the U.S. Supreme Court after a hearing on February 26, 2018 in Washington, DC. The court is scheduled to hear the case, Janus v. AFSCME, to determine whether states violate their employees' First Amendment rights to require them to join public sector unions which they may not want to associate with.
The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Wednesday that non-union workers cannot be forced to pay fees to public sector unions.

The case, one of the most hotly anticipated of the term, is the second in two days to hand a major victory to conservatives, following Tuesday's holding by the court that President Donald Trump's travel ban is constitutional. Some experts have said that a holding in favor of Janus would be the most significant court decision affecting collective bargaining in decades.

Mark Janus, an employee at the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Human Services, asked the court last summer to overrule a 40-year-old Supreme Court decision. It found that public sector unions could require employees affected by their negotiations to pay so-called "agency fees," which have also been called "fair share fees."

Those fees, approved by the court in the 1977 case Abood v. Detroit Board of Education, cover collective bargaining costs, such as contract negotiations, but are meant to exclude political advocacy.

Janus argued that his $45 monthly fee to the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees was unconstitutional. He said the fees infringed on his first amendment rights, and that, in the case of public employees whose contract negotiations are with the government, the fees were a form of political advocacy.

He argued that there was little distinction, for instance, between requiring employees to fund unions that engage in political lobbying and requiring them to fund political groups such as the Democratic Party.

The court on Wednesday agreed with Janus's argument.

"Compelling individuals to mouth support for views they find objectionable violates that cardinal constitutional command, and in most contexts, any such effort would be universally condemned," wrote Justice Samuel Alito, who authored the court's opinion in the case, Janus v. AFSCME.

Trump hailed the ruling immediately after it was handed down. In a post on Twitter, the president wrote that the decision was a "loss for the coffers of the Democrats."

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
Supreme Court rules in favor of non-union workers who are now, as an example, able to support a candidate of his or her choice without having those who control the Union deciding for them. Big loss for the coffers of the Democrats!

The Supreme Court Wednesday dismissed the union's argument that agency fees prevented free-riding from employees who benefit from the union's negotiations. AFSCME argued that, because it was obligated by law to represent the interests of both union and non-union members, the fees were a way for employees to pay their fair share for contact negotiations from which they benefited.

Avoiding free riders, Alito wrote, "is not a compelling interest."

"Many private groups speak out with the objective of obtaining government action that will have the effect of benefiting nonmembers," he wrote. "May all those who are thought to benefit from such efforts be compelled to subsidize this speech?"

The case is the third in five years on the question of fair share fees to come before the Supreme Court. In 2014, the question came to the court in Harris v. Quinn, but the justices declined to answer the central question over agency fees' constitutionality, and instead ruled 5-4 that the petitioners in the case were not public employees.

In 2016, the court issued a one sentence opinion in Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association that left the question open.
