I said it before... A calorie is a calorie is only correct when your obese.

If you eat half of a pizza instead of a whole pizza, you will lose weight. But changing dry chicken to pizza when your dieting to lose strictly fat, then this doesn't work.

It's that simple.

Soooo, let's see, for three months he ate healthy (egg whites, salads, fruit & yogurt), walked 45 minutes a day, and didn't cheat?  And it's earth shattering news that he lost 37 lbs?  Well fuck me, this is going to change everything as we know it.   :-\

Just shows you how ingrained the ignorance and stupidity of people if this is making the news.  This should be common knowledge by now.

X2.
The science teacher probably ate twice the amount of calories before he started going to McDick's. He was probably 60lbs overweight before he started this experiment, lost 37lbs, is still overweight because instead of eating complex carbs, lean meats and greens he ate processed garbage. I guarantee that if he went on a keto or carb cycling diet (this would be the extreme, he could probably have just done 40/40/20 diet and been better off), kept calories identical to when he was eating McD's, he would have lost a lot more weight. Same goes for his cholesterol levels, he reduced them because he cut calories, but if he took in the right calories he would have reduced his cholesterol levels even more! This "experiment" still proves nothing to me.

well of course.  there's not a person on the planet who couldn't eat a little "better" than they are right now.  no one eats 100% perfect all the time.  and if they tell you that they do, they're most probably lying.

but the main point of this is that if you use a little discretion and moderation, you can lose weight and get on a track to being healthy eating just about anywhere.

I guess I'm just trying to say that eating processed shit isn't the way to go about losing weight or eating healthy, even IF you lose a little weight because you cut your calories in half. What happened to eating real food? Chicken, unprocessed beef, rice, potatoes... I never thought white bread, some fake "meat" and deep fried potatoes tasted better than brown rice with some olive oil, chicken breast and some green beans tossed in mac oil and spices.

You can go one step further and not even worry about Macros.  Just count your calories and by default you will have adequate nutrition.  No reason to count Macros at all.

drinking a gallon of Coca-Cola daily, as Spurlock did, is probably enough to turn a soft semi-vegan girlie man like he was, into a heaping sack of weezing mess.

If he had just stuck with water and unsweetened tea, I bet his liver enzymes would have been fine.  The entire movie should have been about the dangers of Super--Sized Sprite & Dr Pepper.  The CHicken sandwiches and McSalad didn't wreck him.

Try for half your bodyweight in protein at least.  Don`t worry if you don`t meet that all the time.  You should be able to pretty easily though without any real attention to anything.  Eat more protein if you like of course.

No, the entire movie should have been about secluding yourself away, forcing yourself not to move, gorging yourself unrealistically and then pretending it to be an accurate representation. (wait, thats what it is REALLY about)

Notice the great lengths he had to take in order for him to make his piece of shit, untruthful movie.  I could do the same eating vegetables and pomegranate juice.

Onseason, offseason, it won`t matter one bit.

I find it amusing all those IIFYM retards obsessing over every little carb and fat gram, protein gram.  They have a mental illness and do not even realize it.  They don`t realize how unnecessary all of that is.

Thanks!

I train everything 2-3 times a week, 8 sets per bodypart, moderate reps/weights. Built my biceps and triceps with 30lbs each arm, delts 25lbs each arm. used to go heavy on compounds though.

It's different than most guys I compete with. When we talk training they mention how much they lift but I never go above 315 on anything. I deadlifted 625 x 3 on my first cycle but wanted to stay injury free and don't care, so now I go lighter and increase intensity via rest times, frequency, sets, reps.

Here's what I did last night:

Chest/Delts/Arms
Bench Press-4 sets
Incline DB Press-4 sets
Side DB Laterals-4 sets
Rear DB Laterals-4 sets
Cable Pushdowns superset w/ DB Concentration Curls-4 sets
Cable Extensions superset w/ DB Hammer Curls-4 sets

Yeah I like limiting rest times to reduce chances of injury and increase fat loss....just started this method and I feel its best for me as I have a limited amount of time to train with my crazy work schedule. No cardio needed...two birds one stone.

but i do have longer rest times for one major lift for every workout at the beginning. For example one day I'll do db bench with as much rest as needed...then do incline, shoulders etc with limited rest.

I also train everything twice a week.

yep I do zero cardio also, for contest prep just counted cals and exercise 7 days a week walking my dog and weight lifting usually 6 days per week

10 Avocados is over 3000 calories.

If I ate just five, I would be at 1500.  Throw in some Bananas, Carrot Juice, Broccoli and some Eggs and I would be easily not losing any weight.

QFT.  That was my problem with his movie as well.  He didn't have to drink that at all.
He didn`t have to eat all of that either and he didn`t have to wear a pedometer to purposely limit his movement to a minimum.

Sadly, many were taken in by this writ large.  Many on this very site even.  If you do a search, you will see how hilarious some Getbiggers reacted when it came out.  They were easily fooled just as the dumb public was.

Serious question Chiro,

In your training as a Chiro, what is the best sleeping position?

Serious question Chiro,

In your training as a Chiro, what is the best sleeping position?

Goal is to keep the spine in as neutral of a position as possible, while maintaining appropriate lordotic and kyphotic curves.

The best: On your back. very thin rolled up towel or extremely small pillow just under your neck. The back of your head (your EOP) should be flat on the bed. Also something very thin under your knees to elevate them slightly. (I often times skip this part, but it helps a lot of older people with low back issues)

"ok" sleep position, not the best: on your side. Pillow between your knees. Another pillow with enough thickness to keep your head neutral and NOT laterally flexed either side. Still, most people often torque their thoracics in this position so it's not the best. Also sleep right side down to alleviate pressure on the heart (not as important for normal healthy people.)

Worst: face down, cervical spine completely rotated to one side for 7 hours straight.

Most of the time people dont sleep in a proper "on your back" Position because they are uncomfortable (due to subtle back pain). Bad way to go though life.

I don`t have any back pain at all, but I am a face down sleeper.  I do whats called "the chalk outline".  One hand out, front, one by the side.  I really don`t know why I do it.  A few days ago I made a point to try sleeping on my back, and I did get the best sleep I have gotten in a long, long time.  However, I quickly find myself reverting back to the face down chalk pose of peace.

I do not have any back pain though and I do find the face down comfortable.  Is this bad?

Only bad if your neck is rotated for hours on end. You may not have symptoms now, but you will...everyone does unfortunately. Think of shoveling snow to one side, over and over again, for years.  the muscular, tendinous, and ligamentous imbalances that this would make. There's a threshold that is reached when something goes wrong.

I was just telling a patient this the other day. They bent over to pick up a piece of paper and their back "went out." now was that piece of paper 300 lbs? NO...but it was the last straw that broke the camels back so to speak. So I adjusted them, I changed the compressive load pattern on their spine, altered their spinal biomechanics and their own body healed itself. I just removed the interference.

My goal is to correct abnormal spinal curves, and the face down neck torqued position is not going to help maintain a proper lordodic cervical curve. And peer reviewed research shows that a reduced cervical curve smaller than 45 degrees will lead to a shorter lifespan. If you reduce that curve you are stretching, pulling, compressing, and fraying your spinal cord/brainstem. Hence why I place such importance on establishing healthy curves and sleeping position.

I frequently take 30 minute naps at lunchtime on my adjusting table. So it's face down but there is a face hole cut out. Very comfortable!

Solution: cut a face hole into your bed  :D

While I can't disagree with your statement, IMO, it doesn't tell enough of the story.

From what I've seen, the most common meal eaten by fatsos in Chinese takeout restaurants is Chicken Wings & Pork Fried Rice; in Mexican restaurants, Tacos with rice and beans; Italian, several slices of pizza.

These are not high protein meals. Snack food aren't either. I would venture that most fatsos don't consume much more than 100 grams of protein a day. In other words, they're not overeating protein. However, most consume 400-500 grams of carbs, easy. So, in a weight loss program, I don't see how you can give equal weight to each macro.

Its just too many calories.  Doesn`t make a fuck bit of difference where they come from.  A lot of people drink a lot of alcohol and get extra calories that way.  Makes no difference if its carbs, fats, protein, alcohol, too much will make you fat.

Fat grams?  ???  ???

Fat is high, as well, but, if they were to just get rid of the starchy carbs they'd take a lot of the fat with them. In any event, Protein isn't the issue. I'd bet most of the 10% bf and below people, here, eat more protein than does your typical 35% fatty.

What you're leaving out is the satiety effects of the macros.

It's almost impossible to eat 400-500 grams of protein. It's very easy to do so with carbs, and to a lesser extent, fat.

Who gives a shit what they eat?  They just eat too much.  You want to regulate what people eat now?  You want to punish people like me, who stay lean, eat a ton of carbs and whatever I want because I know not to exceed a certain caloric threshold?

Fuck that.

Yes, the issue is that Americans overeat CALORIES above their activity levels, which is why they are fat.

But it just so happens that the majority of these calories come from carbs, and next fat, and lastly protein.

Typical American diet is a carb-centric diet.

I said it before... A calorie is a calorie is only correct when your obese.

If you eat half of a pizza instead of a whole pizza, you will lose weight. But changing dry chicken to pizza when your dieting to lose strictly fat, then this doesn't work.

It's that simple.
   8) Correct

You can go one step further and not even worry about Macros.  Just count your calories and by default you will have adequate nutrition.  No reason to count Macros at all.

simpler than EVER!

His Principles have a minimum protein requirement, which contradicts his "Calorie is a Calorie" theory as special status is conferred to a particular macro: protein.

The Principles, rules that must be followed:

P1) minimum daily protein intake of 1 g/lb lean body weight,
P2) variety of food good enough for proper nutrient intake (e.g. follow USRDA),
P3) deficiency of calories which leads to 1-3 lbs of weight loss per week,
P4) hard anaerobic resistance training at least 3 times a week,
P5) 5-8 hours of sleep per day, depending on individual requirements.
