From what I've heard the "left" thing is a bit of a myth. Usually the heart is positioned more to the center than anything.

hearts are usually near the center, mostly left and can be on the right.  most doctors are taught left.  it just depends on a persons physiology.

nope its on the left, the apex of the heart sits at the 4th rib, 4 inches to the left.

The heart in general lies in the center of the thoracic cavity.  However, it's point of maximum impulse lies to the left at the 5th intercostal space.
