What are your thoughts on that from a perspective of serving and living in Germany?
Given in the times we live it makes no sense, you have effectively people in the army for 7 month (not counting 30 days of holidays) - whats the point, most of them have
no interest in the military and simply look for the easiest and trouble free way to pass the 7 month.
On the other hand having a full time professional army only makes sense - its reducing cost - you have motivated Soldiers who actually want to serve their country and have an
actual interest in being a soldier.
However on the other hand I know that apart from the whole bullshit that comes attached with serving the army for a short time - most of it was a lot of fun.
And I know a lot of others thought the same way - the paradox is - when you're in you cannot wait to get out - than you're out and you start missing it.
I joined the army as a complete crazy unresponsible fucked up young man and I came out not completely changed but with a lot more sense of pride and also much more grown up.
I think in todays times there are a lot of young people that need a bitter wakeup call.
