Me, I'd snap in two. Had a guy last year at our gym who did 8 plates, looking pretty good doing it. Apparently in the hunt to beat the Canadian record, which if I remember correctly, was 780-90lbs? I asked him about training routines and he said, 'I don't do sets; I train movements,' and that's where he lost me.

/not a bb'er. more of a strongman type build

I am almost there... I can pick up 650 off the floor but not 675 yet. I'm pulling 675-700 off the rack for singles but 25lbs off the floor is a big fucking difference.  >:( :-X :P

The back is the biggest muscle group in the (upper) body and you need to use straps to properly exhaust it mate - you need to move a lot of poundage to stimulate growth and thickness and you shouldn't be worrying about your grip or your forearms.

You should just train forearms separately. When it comes to back day, you need to use straps and if needed, a belt. And forget things like pulldowns and seated cable rows - they are good for getting some blood in there, but to get a lot of mass and thickness, you need to deadlift, bent-over row and Tbar row heavy weights.

As for doing deadlifts - to be honest I think that a lot of the trainers have it wrong. They can tell you what the correct form is if you are doing 1 plate a side, but when you're lifting upwards of 400 or 500 lbs, you are going to be rounding your back a little. By the time you get to that level, you'll know if you're doing something wrong (although not always, of course).

If you have thick spinal erectors, you can round your back a bit and it's not going to kill you. Of course, I'm not saying just use whatever form without worrying, but just that don't be afraid to let your body assume whatever stance it does when it's moving a lot of weight - it's an inbuilt mechanism that you'll know only if you've lifted heavy and not some fancy thing you read about in Mens Fitness

GOOD SHIT RIGHT HERE!

Does Doing them off the rack helps increase your power from the floor?

No, do deads standing on a block and Olympic style squats for starting strength.

Yes...my deadlifting strength can atest to it. I always pull heavier weights off hte rack first and get my body used to holding it for a few weeks before attemtping off the ground. Now only does it help with the physical but with the mental too when you see yourself picking up that much weight. It will help you get your leg drive, hip thrust, and finishing power down and smooth before attempting it from the floor. I'm not talking pulling from mid thigh or some bullshit like that...I'm talking right below the knees or mid shin off hte rack.

good advice. altho it depends on what your "sticking point" is. but other than that...thats a good method.

I haven't maxed out on lifts in over 6 years.  Maxing out is for powerlifters.  Gymrats who max out are homos.  I'm thinking that I should be able to pull 7 plates, I''d have to use straps for sure though.

Fear and negativity is something that everyone needs to get over in order to lift the big weights.  I'm working on that!
I think I know who bench press barbie is...I'll check her out, gotta scope out the competition, ya know.   ;)

I do them if I still have some gas in the tank or still want to do some pulling and can't get it off the floor anymore..
