Ben Affleck will play Batman in the followup to this summer's "Man of Steel," due in 2015.
Ever since the announcement at Comic-Con that Batman would make an appearance in the the sequel to "Man of Steel" (and Christian Bale's declaration that he wouldn't be donning the cape a fourth time), rumors have been swirling about who would be playing Gotham's vigilante guardian. In a statement today, director Zack Snyder named Affleck the next caped crusader, touting his ability to portray a wizened Dark Knight and affirming that the actor can successfully embody the gravitas and wit of the one and only Bruce Wayne.
"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," Snyder wrote. "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."
Henry Cavill, of course, will be returning as Superman in the yet-to-be-named sequel. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane are also set to reprise their respective roles. You can catch Ben Affleck as Batman when "Man of Steel 2" (or whatever it's called) soars into theaters July 17, 2015.

Bale wasn't some amazing thespian... He just had a good director and scripts. (His voices in costume make me cringe to this day)
Affleck will be fine. He's got the right height and stature to stand next to Cavill and he's got a decent look about him for the part.
I wish it had gone to Brolin, but Affleck will be fine.
PS. The Val Kilmer Batman and Batman Forever Movie wasn't bad... Script was ok and acting was worthy... Joel Schumacher ruined it with his Neon Gotham city. I don't think that will be an issue here.

Keaton was a great Batman to me because he pulled a stellar Bruce Wayne, the troubled millionaire living alone.
That's the real part to Batman, and the challenge to play, not hanging on wires in a costume with a silly growling voice like Bale has.

I agree... Keaton is definitely my favorite "Bruce Wayne / Batman" to date. The suit is also my favorite as well.

Christian Bale costume has gone from organic bat feel to some sort of bionic commando soldier type deal. I don't know where they were going with that ???
The classic Batman logo on the chest is almost entirely wiped out in the costume in the latter movies.

I actually avoid films because of Affleck, I never would have thrown his name out there in a million years. Agreed on the 89 batsuit being the best, apart from the black it was closest to the comic design, it was armour but also looked like it could be the physique. Nolans Batman costumes look ridiculous, part power ranger, part kids party outfit

His gruff voice was pathetic, it made me laugh when he talked. Affleck is just a bad choice. He will kill the character. I don't get this choice. In my opinion there's Michael Keaton and then there is everyone else. I really like Christian Bale as an actor but his Batman was shit. Maybe Affleck will be a pleasant surprise. I doubt it. I just hope that this Batman isn't the hero that Gotham needs, the hero that Gotham deserves or whatever that bullshit nonsense was in The Dark Knight. Corny.

Theyre comic book characters, by their very definition they bend the laws of reality.... so watching a dreary and dragging movie over and over because hes "dark" just got overdone for me. Kill him off, make some Superman flicks. New Supes has potential.

Kill him off, make some Superman flicks. New Supes has potential.

Dave Lee was Keaton's fight double for in the '89 and '92 movies. His biggest complaint was that he could barely move in the suits, which were heavy and restricting. Clooney's was the lightest, coolest and most comfortable, but the material showed smudges and scuffs very easily, so they had crew workers on hand with rags and Windex to wipe him off between takes.

Tim Burton probably did that movie better better than anyone could have. The casting choices were superb. Danny Elfman's score was amazing. But, one of his best moves was hiring Anton Furst to design Gotham City and the Batmobile. Warner Brothers was so protective of that car that they had an entire legal team on hand to pursue unauthorized replicas after a set of the original fiberglass molds was stolen from the WB lot. They also made a point to keep the patent active by sporadically using the car in other WB movies and television commercials.
Keaton offered $250 K for the car after completion of the first film, but WB declined. David Copperfield was able to buy "a" Batmobile years later for around $90 K, but it wasn't the one actively used in the films. I believe it may have been a stripped down stunt car, or one used for promotional work; I can't remember.
Then, Joel Shumacher was handed the Batman legacy and fukked it up the asshole as hard as he could in every conceivable way.

it was great at first. Then it got tiring and boring. Seriously, the third movie dragged so fucking badly at points that I wanted to claw my eyes out. Im not saying that it needs to be like watching a cartoon - but these characters exist in a fantasy world where men can fucking fly... pretty much all pretense of being grounded in reality is gone at this point. I get it Bruce..... you life sucks, youre depressed. I dont give a shit. Go flynaround in your billion dollar make believe hovercraft while evwryone applauds how "realistic" your universe is.

Today you have Jason Bourne, Batman even James Bond all striving to be realistic and plausible. Which is fine if the story is written that way.
But movies are essentially reality escapism, and especially superhero movies who stem from lighthearted cartoons shouldn't have to be 100 % realistic.
They'll never be anyway! Superheroes are fantasy artwork in their core so why try to play that off as it could ever exist in our world?

Ryan Gosling. He could have been Batman.
Following the surprise announcement of a Superman/Batman movie at San Diego Comic-Con last month, rumors ran wild as to who would next don the cape and cowl as the Dark Knight.
One rumor is being reported as "true" by THR: Ryan Gosling. They write Gosling was a studio pick for the role, but Gosling refused it because he does not like sequels.
The studio reached out to Affleck, at an earlier point in time he didn't seem too interested. After a lot of convincing, he was curious about the idea and thus began conversations of character and story development. Once his curiosity was satisfied WME took over the negotiation process. Included in these negotiations is a multi-picture deal (not clear on WHAT movies,) and appearing as Batman in a Justice League movie. And, he may even direct that movie.
It is a surprising move by Affleck, who had recently turned down 20th Century Fox's offer to wear the red suit in a Daredevil re-boot. Chris Nolan reportedly offered Affleck the chance to direct Man of Steel, but he said "no" because he did not desire to be involved in the superhero genre again (despite being a big comic book fan.)
As for Daredevil, it was 10 years ago. Even Affleck conceded it wasn't his best work. But, people evolve a LOT in 10 years, and he has performed admirably since. It's like us being held forever accountable today to something we all did when we were 12 years old and still growing. His recent projects show the growth and development, winning the Oscar for Best Picture in February.
The next installment in the Man of Steel franchise, not yet officially titled, has Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/ Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane,) Diane Lane (Martha Kent,) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) reprising their roles in addition to Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/ Batman. Perhaps not. I think that fantasy/superhero films, like SF films, are a really difficult genre to do 'well.' For every 20 films of said genre, maybe 1 is considered 'solid.' The success/fail ratio is huge. For every Blade Runner/2001 there are 00's of just pure crap flicks. :-\

That's the thing. They don't have to give him good makeup or dye job. Bruce Wayne is about 50 years old in this story line. he is bitter and pissed off. Keaton can play it as is.

Superman/Batman Film Will Shoot In Detroit
The new home of Metropolis and Gotham. Gothtropolis?
Though there was a thought that Zack Snyder would be returning to Vancouver and its environs (a favourite shooting haunt of his) to film the Superman/Batman crossover-flavoured Man Of Steel sequel, Canada will have to manage without the last son of Krypton and Gotham’s Caped Crusader: they’re off to Michigan.
In an announcement from the Michigan Film Office, picked up by Coming Soon’s Bat-web radar, the superhero mash-up, lured by tax incentives, will film in and around Detroit. Which means that both Metropolis and, presumably, Gotham will both be played on screen by a city that has recently declared bankruptcy. Hopefully Bruce Wayne’s billions will be a welcome cash injection.
“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie,” says Snyder. “Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film.”
With the title still undecided, we do know the film will feature returning Steel workers Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, joined by Ben Affleck, who, as you may have heard (and read via the virtual gnashing of teeth and rending of garments online), is playing Bats. It’s scheduled to kick off production early next year for a July 17, 2015 release date in the US (and possibly here, though there has been no official word on that).

Affleck is only partly to blame for Daredevil. Blame Mark Steven Johnson - dickhead director who blew his fanboy wad and couldn't control his excesses on that film, and also blame the studio for fucking around with the production of Daredevil.
Having said that, I'm not leaping out my skin at the thought of him as Batman. If they really want an old grizzled Batman, they should get someone like Alec Baldwin to play the part. Stacey Keach would have been perfect 10 years ago or so as the Dark Knight Returns Batman too, I always thought.
And me to the list of Michael Keaton fans - his Batman was great.

From this pick I would have brought him as Wayne. But they are looking 10 yrs down the road and several movies like Wolverine, which I really don't like. Anyway, he'll look 70 in that time. I'm cool with Affleck, who has improved his acting chops. Lets see what happens as this progresses. I think they will put a lot of material out to get the early buzz like Avengers (another one I hated) got and rolled to 1B at the box office.

Is this all Hollywood does anymore, teenage superhero/robot/fantasy CGI movies? Shit, creativity died in the 90s, both cinematically and musically. Fuck Batman, Nolan made two great films and a turd. Bale wasn't some amazing thespian... He just had a good director and scripts. (His voices in costume make me cringe to this day)
Affleck will be fine. He's got the right height and stature to stand next to Cavill and he's got a decent look about him for the part.
I wish it had gone to Brolin, but Affleck will be fine.
PS. The Val Kilmer Batman and Batman Forever Movie wasn't bad... Script was ok and acting was worthy... Joel Schumacher ruined it with his Neon Gotham city. I don't think that will be an issue here.

Three or four weeks on the sauce and he will be ready for the obligatory shirtless scene. It could have been shot and it's already in the can. Now he just has to film the in the batman suit and clothes scenes. I guarantee he will be a Hollywood muscle marvel for the shirtless scenes.

i didn't watch daredevil but he can't be worst than ryan reynolds (imagine this one here getting cast as batman or any hero in JL) in green lamp and deadpool. affleck has improved over the years, so i'll give him the benefit. MOS has a good real world vibe, so as long as he acts normal as in everyday settings he can't mess it up. the real problem is, the jewish whore can't act at all.

The trainers are from the Institute of Performance Fitness, located in North Reading, Mass, which is outside of the Boston area. According to their website, they aren’t Hollywood trainers, but specialize in athletic training with expertise in conditioning, movement, and speed of athletic performance with some of the world’s elite competitors.

The Marvel news train has apparently become the “villain” from Tony Scott’s Unstoppable as it continues to barrel down the tracks of internet insanity. It began last Friday when it was announced that Edgar Wright had left the Ant-Man film he’d been developing for nearly eight years, an announcement that was later followed up with rumors that the director left the project over various re-writes that were made to the original script created with Joe Cornish. The train then rolled through Saturday when it was revealed Drew Goddard was stepping down from the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Daredevil to focus his attention on Sony’s Sinister Six. In his place, fellow Whedon-school alum Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus) took over as showrunner. Now, in relation to Daredevil, a new rumor comes courtesy of the folks over at Latino-Review.
There’s been much speculation over who would play the man without fear, the most high-profile name in the mix being Michael C. Hall, who’s on the hunt for a new project now that Dexter is over. Today, the outlet reports Boardwalk Empire’s Charlie Cox is the frontrunner to play the blind superhero. El Mayimbe does state in his report the news is currently unconfirmed but comes from a trustworthy enough source to post.
Without knowing the tone Marvel Television is going for, it’s hard to say if Cox is the right choice for the part, but he definitely fits the Marvel bill of not having a major break-out roll yet, despite having an extensive body of work. Honestly, at this point, when it comes to casting we should just let Marvel do its thing because they haven’t screwed up once so far on that front.

According to the report, Thanos – teased in the first Avengers post-credits sequence – has a third-act scene involving a rocket throne. I don’t know what that is, but it sounds like just the kind of grandiose thing that a purple god obsessed with death might tool around on.
Brolin, last seen in Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy, would make for an interesting Thanos. He’s definitely got the bass in his voice as well as enough swagger to bring to the part should any motion capture be needed. If the rumor is true, this would make two big screen comic roles for Brolin in 2014 alongside his part as Dwight in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For from director Robert Rodriguez.

Since the Avengers sting, we haven’t seen anything from the character and footage for Guardians of the Galaxy up to this point have positioned Lee Pace’s Ronan the Accuser as the main heavy in that film (although Marvel has confirmed Thanos would make an appearance in some way). Thanos is CGI, so they could cast the guy who did voice overs for Godzilla. BTW, Brolin's last couple of movies have been trash, so he may not have been a good fit for Batman.

Vincent D’Onofrio is the new Kingpin.
Marvel TV has cast the acclaimed actor in Daredevil, its 13-episode super-hero series for Netflix.
D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Men in Black) will play Wilson Fisk, “a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil.” Previously we announced that Boardwalk Empire alum Charlie Cox will play the Murdock/Daredevil in the show.

According to Metro, Affleck is finding the suit incredibly restrictive and is struggling with coming to terms about how it feels to wear it on a daily basis. Insiders told the Daily Mail that he is has trouble breathing while wearing the batsuit.
“The suit is extremely restrictive. Ben finds it hard to perform basic tasks and struggles to look natural. He’s constantly trying to avoid going to the toilet because it’s such an ordeal.”
Taking off and putting on the batsuit reportedly takes about 30 minutes, so it’s a chore. It’s also probably very hot in Detroit right now since they are in the middle of summer. But Affleck is not the only one wearing a heavy, hot suit for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Henry Cavill, who plays Superman, wears a similar costume and did so graciously for Man of Steel.

According to some reports, Ben Affleck is not loving the batsuit he is forced to use for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Oscar winner actor-director needs help from several assistants to remove and put back on the cumbersome suit.
But if the reports are true, is Batfleck acting like a diva? After all, he is part of a multimillion franchise here and he did join the cast willingly. For fans who were vehemently opposed to Affleck’s casting in the first place, this sounds like a lot of whining.
Of course, Ben Affleck is playing a new version of the Caped Crusader — big shoes to fill in the absence of Christian Bale, who played the character in the Dark Knight trilogy — in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman. On May 13, the director shared a teaser of what the batsuit looks like this time around.

According to Metro, Affleck is finding the suit incredibly restrictive and is struggling with coming to terms about how it feels to wear it on a daily basis. Insiders told the Daily Mail that he is has trouble breathing while wearing the batsuit.
“The suit is extremely restrictive. Ben finds it hard to perform basic tasks and struggles to look natural. He’s constantly trying to avoid going to the toilet because it’s such an ordeal.”
Taking off and putting on the batsuit reportedly takes about 30 minutes, so it’s a chore. It’s also probably very hot in Detroit right now since they are in the middle of summer. But Affleck is not the only one wearing a heavy, hot suit for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Henry Cavill, who plays Superman, wears a similar costume and did so graciously for Man of Steel.

Kilmer didn't bother me at all.
The only problem with those 2 Batman movies was Joel Schumacher... The campy Batman style had gone out back in the 70s and him trying to bring it back screwed the franchise.

I don't get the need for a batman vs. superman movie in the first place. This is not a precursor to the JL so it's kind of lame. At least have Superman fight Doomsday or Darkseid before bringing in Batman. The producers should have fought hard for Bale just for some consistency. Is Affleck even going to do the JL movies? Having Lex be the villain. Yawn. So tired of it.

as long as the cinematography is similar to the dark knight and mos, the movie will be great and have that real world feel that DC strives for. just stay away from the comic and popcorn shit marvel does. btw, zac did a great job with foara. i think he'll be on point with wonder woman too.

Kilmer was the best bruce wayne, because he can pull off the charming rich prick alter ego of batman.
Keaton, was a pro at being the mysterious man behind the mask, although looked like shit in the suit and was too modest to be bruce wayne.
Bale just got down the idea that to be batman you must be fanatically obsessed in your mission. One of the best scenes in the trilogy is where he's seen holding a glass of wine at a party and dumps it as soon as he gets a chance, that kind of detail really shows the work it takes to be two men at once.
None of those mentioned were anything descent in the suit, there all to short. To be a convincing dude you need to be in the big suit, something short actors cant ware without looking stocky. Batman should have a almost bain like presence in terms of his body.
If ben isn't a flop, it'll be because he stays in the suit. He got the suit look down and might pull off the idea that he is physically menacing.

Even Affleck's batsuit is right out of the comic with the small bat ears.
The problem is that not every comic can be transferred to film. Trust me when I say that this is one of them.
Even in the comic realm this is an ELSEWORLD tale. That means it never really happened in the comic reality. It's not canon.
Now it is understandable to want to make a comic featuring DC Comics two biggest stars, but they simply should have crafted an original tale, something that could lead to the eventual JLA movie that we all know is coming.
All they had to do was have Lex Luthor doing something bad in Gotham City. That's all you need for Batman and Superman to meet and work together. Instead, WB is trying to make a movie out of a comic not suited to be a major motion picture.
Throw in Affleck as Batman and you have an epic disaster on the way. ::)

this doesn't make sense because they won't have 5 calendar years with the moves marvel is making. the problem is, MOS' next villian would have to be another powerhouse. if doomdays showed up on earth as a kryptonian killer, how does superman get away with a battle but we never see the other heros of earth? therefore, you have to introduce the other characters now. the world engine should have drawn them (esp the powerhouse ones like wonder woman, shazam (the rock), etc) out in the first movie but they got away with that. and no one wants to see Superman vs Lex Luther again. DC is making the right moves with other hero cameos.
it also makes it easier to do crossovers when they start doing their solo projects. btw, they are planing another solo MOS movie.

Aquaman works, is a bit of a stereotype because of the Pacific Island connection, but I don't see him fitting anywhere else. He'd be worst than Ryan Reynolds if he was cyborg. They got a Broadway actor to play that role which is a good choice.

Green Lantern is the PRIME example why DC needs to stay away from Marvel's popcorn kiddie universe. The new Lantern will be John Stewart who is a better and more serious fit.
MOS' box office 700M is almost equal to the Amazing Spiderman 750M. Also MOS had an uphill climb with Return of Superman hanging on its' shoulders while Spiderman was ridding Marvel wave of popcorn.
Again, you can't do a MOS II with Marvel so far out in front. They needed a vehicle to introduce characters. B v S is the right vehicle at the right time.
Lastly, Marvel's properties are spread over multiple studios vs all of DC's stuff is in-house (one studio). That makes it difficult to put out 3-4 movies a year. Most of Marvel's stuff is shit so I'm glad DC isnt spread out.

Oh, I agree with you about the approach. I'm more of a DC guy myself. But look at Snyder's history. You can even see it in the leaked footage from Comic-Con. The over the top bat signal with an overdone switch that sparks up. Believe me, their approach is going to be pure popcorn.

He’s been dancing around the DC Comics cinematic universe for years now, dropping coy hints about possible roles and films he’d like to tackle. Finally, Dwayne Johnson has made it official, making a deal to play the villain-turned-antihero Black Adam in a Shazam film.

Johnson’s character, Black Adam, has long been the nemesis for the hero, but in recent comics, he’s been on a path to change his nature and make amends for his past. And that would seem to be the embryonic film’s angle, as hinted at in Johnson’s tweet about the role today.
Of course, it’s early days and with Lemke only just kicking off work, no director is attached and no schedule has been set for the movie. But the news also gives credence to word of Warner Bros. registering a batch of new domain names.
As for when Shazam will make its appearance? That’s still up in the air. But Warners has a lot of release dates to fill and having Johnson locked in for one of the movies helps figure out one of them…

There's a sadomasochistic side to superman. In almost all of his "epic" fights, he could have easily just flung any of his opponents into the Sun. But it seems he just likes to fight, get hit and battle. If his job numero uno is to protect earth and anyone that threatens mankind the why is he so reluctant to even kill a nasty subspecies? He wants them around. He loves the attention and brutality. He's like a beaten wife who sticks with her husband.
